Vintage “folding sewing/knitting bag”. Great find and even better price. In the states (online at least) they are quite expensive. Turned out great!

The final bag/box looks really good. I actually really like the original fabric, it has a nice Medieval tapestry vibe but I like that you turned it into something that fits your style.

What a bargain for $3 - truly - I've seen them in my oppie for more like $15-20. Not sure what the original name for them is, but my grandma definitely had one, they were very common back in the day. I can't be 100% sure but I believe the wooden frame came as a kit set with a pattern and the knitter made up the fabric part to their taste. Anyway, so nice to see it given a new lease on life and it fits well into your scandi aesthetic along with being very useful!

That is so cool! My mum gave me one and now my daughter is on the lookout, lol. I wanted to replace the bag but thought it might be too fidgety. Man, you made that look soooo easy! Love it. I love the pins, they look cool az. 🌺🌺🌺

Great job! It’s really nice when you get a bargain and can repurpose it….. I like the original tapestry too but I know it is not your decor.. I’ve never heard the baskets called anything in particular but I would have called it a craft bag/basket.

Bayley! That is brilliant - I have a very similar frame from my MIL‘s house with handle slits in the top bars; the fabric more or less disintegrated so I have no pattern and so had been procrastinating on figuring out a solution for a new bag. Your video is the perfect motivation to get it done and back in use after many years 😃👍 Thankyou!

It looks amazing! Over here in the Netherlands you see them (usually very old ones) for used for knitting or as magazine holders. This might be the solution to my storage issue of my WIPs. I’m not sure exactly where I would put a basket in our living room, but it must be better than putting my project bags in my already overloaded pantry. Although I love wooden furniture, I have some chunky yarn in pastel pink and purple that I could crochet into a large basket. I’m also working this year to reduce my yarn stash, so crocheting a basket would help that too.

What an awesome find and love how you have upcycled it. I am sure that you will find it really useful for storing all your projects to have on the go. It is called a wooden folded knitting bag or you can search for a modern version called Everything Mary Fold Up Yarn Caddy.

Wow you did a great job. I like that your boys were home and would be seeing you problem solve and complete an upcycle ptoject. I have no idea what they’re are called but growing up it seems everyone’s grandma had one in that same thick upholstery fabric - always floral. Great deal at $3 too
