THRIFT AND RESALE SHOPPING I CONSIGNMENT WORLD VENDOR MALL
Thrifting and antique shopping under one roof? Consignment stores are a well-kept secret that thrifters often miss (thinking they’re not cheap) and antiquers often eschew (thinking they won’t have old things), but savvy shoppers know they proffer finds for many collections and resellers on a budget.
Today I discover Consignment World and Antiques in Cadiz, Kentucky, an interesting combination of dealer spaces with new, vintage and antique items, plus selected wares from several dozen consignment sellers. This place is new to me, but proves to have a wide array of items and a few interesting buys!
An auspicious start is a G.E. refrigerator pitcher, made by a well-known American ceramics firm and priced about 1/3 of retail. From there we discover much more vintage glass, ceramics and dinnerware, much of it bargain priced; a delicious donut phone; a big Coke bottle collection from some little places; and a Treasure Craft mushroom set that shows me that writing my reference book pushed up prices over the years.
TV nostalgia items, a brilliant blue stove and copper sculptures help us remember ‘the way we were’. From galvanized tin to cigarette sets for 12, this store is much larger and has more variety than I bargained for when I came.
Here are some more of the items we see along the way in this tour:
Haeger pottery, ‘Emergency’ hat, music box, license plates, McCoy pottery, Goofus glass, 1960s desk phones, Russel Wright Iroquois, moose creamers, Napco fish, Bauer and Harlequin, Fostoria Jamestown, Disney plates, vintage mugs, ceramic cats, etc.

My Cousin was convinced that her Mother was going to set the interior of her car on fire. She had an ashtray on the dash board, and it would sometimes catch fire with cigarettes left to burn on the dash! My Aunt has passed on and I miss her and her reckless smoking.

The story about your mom's incense reminded me of when I visited my aunt & uncle. They also left cigarettes burning in every room. I had nicotine withdrawal when I went home after a 2 week visit every summer. My mom wondered why I was cranky & snappish.

I remember when you could smoke in restaurants. Smokers tipped better. When you grow up around smokers your used to it. My dad smoked. He was banned to the basement, if he wanted to smoke. I love the old ash trays. But then you get used to being away from smoke. Lots of good stuff in this place. Stay safe, George.🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋🍀🌺🦋

Too funny, when I was younger, boys used to tell me I looked like Randolph Mantooth from EMERGENCY. Not a good comparison for a young girl lol. I was later compared to Lilly Tomlin in her roll of Ernistine, on Rowan's and Martin's Laugh In. And in junior high, Geddy Lee of Rush. I really enjoy all the information you share in your videos, and I love that you are graceful in your way of saying that something has beauty and value, even if it's not something you would choose personally. I am 57, but try to continue to gain knowledge of different antiques and collectibles. You are a wonderful resource! As I mentioned in a prior comment, you have a very soothing voice and I think that too helps me absorb the information better than some "in your face" resellers I've watched.

lol+ Loved loved! the story about your Mother's smoking...especially the sarcasm 'incense' lol. I grew up with smokers in the house and in cars. I remember sitting in the back seat of the Pontiac Grand Parisienne while my Dad drove with one hand (or knee) on the sterling wheel and the other arm/elbow resting on the edge of car's door ledge, I usually caught the cig coals in my eyes blown from his cig. Not very pleasant. So, when I complained, he rolled up the window and I got the full impact of the smoke instead ;) Also, I witnessed many a cig butts & cig packages creatively flicked out the car window. Memories...of the way we were...

Great video once again, George! I found my first piece of Treasure Craft yesterday in the wild. It is 2 owls on a tree trunk cookie jar. I'm thrilled with it, and I was able to snag it for $3.49. 😊

I can not believe you found that much Bauer pottery for $15! It really puts Fiesta to shame. I tried to collect it in the 1980s and it was expensive and hard to find in Kentucky. He left Paducah in 1909. Now there are expensive reproduced pieces. I just was interested in the sand jars and large pieces anyway. Winfield will just scream tropical flower designs and bamboo patterns. California pieces really hit this area in the 1970s with giftware items and kitchenware accessories. Weddings were the perfect occasion.

I didn't realize California style came here in that time, I guess it permeated everything eventually. I love the Bauer oil jars and have not ever owned one myself, couldn't afford it by the time I collected

Bauer collector for decades. Huge collection that now we've downsized. . . there's no where to put them and I miss it :-/ BTW, those plaster kitties you said were larger than an actual kittie? Our Bartleby is bigger and either of them, LOL.

I once bid on a real picture postcard that had a story written on the back with an attribution to the night riders being in town. Of course, no specific names were given for fear of death. Suffice to say, I was not the winning bid when the hammer came down at over $500. You had a great Kentucky sports team RPPC with players named up for bid one time. I hope one day Patrick can find someone to do a “deep dive” on paper ephemera. I know there is a lot of interest generated lately and prices have really come down on most items. Not all, but there is still some real sleeper money out there, if people just knew what to look for. Maybe one day you’ll have a collection to teach from. I think a 6 part documentary might cover it! As always, thanks for all you share.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 4 жыл бұрын
I love paper ephemera! I did do well with the KY RPPC, I was happy it went to someone who was from its original area. That postcard you bid on would've been a real prize, there couldn't be a lot that was written at the time because their dealings were secretive and in-person (and not very friendly).

When you found the WW pitcher I remembered the Woolworth in Bremerton. I still have pictures from the photo booth with my mom when I was around 4yo.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 4 жыл бұрын
I remember that place! It was still there when I was a kid in Silverdale in the late 1970s, I recall my mom yelling at me to keep up with her when I wanted to dig through the 10 cent bins. Years later, a business partner and I toured that building in hopes of turning it into an antique mall, but the Navy insisted on tearing that whole stretch of buildings down "for security reasons"...it was really because Bremerton was falling apart and they could get money for "Urban Renewal" through the Department of Defense if they let them destroy it. Very sad what happened to Bremerton.
