Salvaged Inspirations

Күн бұрын

I hummed and hawed whether to buy these octagon tables. I have mixed feelings about them. They’re not a popular shape these days. But I decided to challenge myself and see if I could update them. Today I’m sharing how I transformed these octagon tables with some rattan-cane mesh and a gorgeous neutral color. I can’t wait to hear what you think!

Great job, Denise. One suggestion for cutting out the panels. You could drill some access holes and use a skil saw with a fine blade to cut them out. Hope this helps!

OMG how I wish I saved mine. When I moved I threw 2 of this kind in Garbage. I am from Canada and saw lots of these with beautiful carved doors when I lived in BC. I have one that is sleek and tall octogen . I love that.

Using a drill to make a hole in a each corner then use a jig saw to cut out these panels, they are much more powerful especially with good blades than the multi tool. The multi is super for smaller things but very slow on big ones and hard on the motor and blades. Great project!

Great tip and idea, thank you!! I'd like to buy myself a better jigsaw then the one I have.

Very nice! Love your custom color. You really brought them back to contemporary life! So agree with older furniture, they are built SOLID. Have you tried to see what they would look like with small round brushed brass (it even mat gold knobs), in the up in the corners or in the middle of the frames? Just to add little jewels to these beautiful doors. I think it would balance out the other details that catch the eyes, like the framed out sides and the legs. A little bit like you would use black details in a room, to draw your eye in. Just a suggestion. (One other suggestion with rattan, always let it soak. You can unroll it in your bathtub and weigh it down, then remove excess water like you did. Cut to size or a tiny bit over, to have just enough material to staple and it will dry tight and taut.)

To remove panels, how about drilling holes in the corners and then use a jigsaw or something to cut between the holes.
@SalvagedInspirations

Yes! I did think of using a jigsaw but I'm not thrilled with the one I have and was afraid my lines wouldn't turn out as straight. But this probably would have been a much faster process. Thanks Jeanne! :)

Such a transformation! The rattan makes the tables look so light and feminine. I am always so inspired by your projects. One question----is the paint you used matte or is there some sheen to it? 🥰
