I guess I never thought about quilt cleaning. I had/have a boatload of handsewn quilts my great grandmother and grandma made in the 20’s and thirties. I decided to give the bulk of them to family for Christmas one year (with the rules - don’t just donate to a thrift shop, sell if you absolutely need the money, or give it back to me if you don’t want it) I instilled in them the value, heartfelt and money wise. But before I gave them away, I threw them in the washer. They came out beautifully. I gave away 12 that Christmas and still have probably 4-5. Feel so lucky!

Jos research the use of Zout for set in fabric stains! I’m sure you’ve heard of it but if u haven’t then it might become a new bestie friend! It can be found at Walmart I do believe! It’s been awhile since I’ve needed it because for stains I normally use Dawn in the grey/silver bottle now because it’s awesome too! Of course when you put it on fabric your first reaction will be ohhh nooo I’ve ruined this but nope it washes out and you never even know you’ve used it! I put the dawn on the spots or stains all the way around it and work it into the fabric and I also treat the other side then wash! I’ve even been able to get ink out of my work clothes with the Dawn! Of course until you know the stain is gone never dry because in the event of ink it could take a few times to get it out and drying will set a stain! I mean using a dryer, air drying shouldn’t set a stain!

The first desk you looked at we actually have one almost identical to it that we inherited from my husband’s grandfather who got it when he taught at St Olaf college here in Minnesota in the 60’s. I geeked out just a little! And yes it is the size of a kitchen table but the top comes off for moving it so it isn’t so heavy. The drawers are great, if your mom needs a desk I would recommend it cause it is a work horse! ♥️♥️♥️

Be careful washing any older quilt they can fall apart because the fabric is dry rot. About 10 years ago I bought 3 beautiful older quilts one I washed on gentle cycle in a washing machine...it was shredded. The other 2 quilts I washed by hand but the material started splitting... I wish that I would have just displayed them as is instead of washing them. Goodwill doesn't have the best items currently but will probably be better in June.
