ThredUp's new image search feature is great fun to play with! On the downside, it doesn't always being up stellar results for things like cloaks, fancy princess gowns, or corsets (no, I did not mean swim tops, Mr. Image Search...), but overall, it's pretty accurate. I've found so many cute, Hobbity, Cottagecore frocks with that feature--whereas before, I hardly found anything. Highly recommend! 😁💜

Thank you for giving me some ideas. I try and curate as many small businesses I can plus thrifting but its generally pretty difficult to find stuff thats not super expensive. Its the way it has to be, I get people on marketplaces like Facebook and Ebay want to make a few bucks and for it to be worth selling at all (I did the same thing when I sold my Ps4 and games). The ebay listings surprise me, there are some legit good stuff I gotta take a look at.

Buy the green skirt and film an unboxing and styling video. Then write off the cost in your taxes as business use for content. ;)

I never thought about actually keeping the "in someone's cart" filter toggled "on" on ThredUp, but I bet that's actually one of the best ways to find good pieces because obviously someone else liked them too.

At least Vinted is really big in Europe and Kleinanzeigen also sometimes has good deals. (Even though I don't know if ebay-kleinanzeigen is a thing outside of germany)

My 2c: Google image search if you want a specific item and you know the brand (like that green skirt). This casts a very wide net and I've sometimes found items I wanted on websites I didn't know existed. To avoid disappointments, esp. if item costs $$$, look for fabric content, photos of the tag (if the item has the tag), thorough photos at different angles, photos of the actual item (instead of the seller using only photos from the original brand site), and specific measurements. If the seller does not do these things but still charger a substantial amount, I avoid. Also the seller should have something to say about the item instead of a perfunctory description like "green skirt".

I did a mini tour a while back in a Q&A (I think it was for my 10k) - but I want to do an updated one once I finally upgrade my book case. I want to switch out my two small bookshelves into one big one but have been on the hunt for one in my local area for cheap.

How I find the same clothing item is I screen shot it and Google image search. It works pretty well. I also do it to see how I like the item on models etc to see how it would fit me. It works for that too!

I love that! I totally forgot to mention I do that sometimes when I see stuff I like lol - its cool because sometimes even if it doesn't find exact matches, it'll show you similar stuff which sometimes gives you great results!

@DressMeUpScotty I try that and also do an image search for it on both Poshmark and Thredup. When I'm hypomanic I can go down a multi day rabbit hole of screenshotting, image searching, finding something similar I also like, screenshotting, image searching, etc. I don't even buy much, I just get seriously into window shopping. But when I do buy stuff my brain definitely turns it into a quest to find the absolute best deal possible on one of the things I love. Which just reminded me there was this shirt off an older TV show that a main character rewore often that I was so determined to find last year. The shirt was from the 70s at least and I finally found a sweater with a similar vibe, but there was a second similar sweater I loved just as much. I bought the first sweater and it was my favorite sweater last year, and now I'm wondering if the second sweater is still available because it's different enough I would buy it this winter. That's the other thing I do, if there's too many kinds of thing I love I sometimes wait months to decide and hope my choices get narrowed down by some of the items selling in the meantime.

This was helpful to me since I have several pieces I've been holding onto that I sized out of. I have sold a few items on E bay but it's always a hassle with coats, cloaks or boots since the weight will make the shipping expensive. I had 3 pairs of Dansko slides that were never worn & we posted on FB Marketplace to sell locally. I was only asking $20. They were new in box & both ladies who bought them were absolutely shocked & delighted. I was surprized that the red & purple sold but not the black. I'm a little shocked at what some people want for used clothing online. I always had good luck at consignment resale shops but they are harder to find these days & they take a pretty big cut.

On eBay at least you can filter items containing something you don't like by typing "minus that word", for example -faux, so all those faux leather boots would disappear from your search results. No idea about the sites you use, though

Do not wear sandals to a faire, your feet will be filthy & hurting. The girls I knew who actually worked the faire often wore the fabric Mary Janes you can get at any China Town for under $10. I just wear lace up granny boots & that seems to be what most people wear unless they have custom made authentic boots/shoes.

Agreed. Boots or booties are best. The dust and mud that gets kicked up is for real. I prefer to have good tread on my shoes for the hills.

so question...when you get the shoes and boots from thrifting...how do you go about cleaning them the best for you?
@DressMeUpScotty
@DressMeUpScotty 8 ай бұрын
There are different products for different materials, but generally for the interior of most shoes you can get a disinfectant spray specifically for shoes. Those are good to have on hand anyways for maintaining shoes to keep them from smelling. For the exterior of leather I use a horsehair brush, and a mink oil conditioner. Great for maintenance as well, I use it every so often on my docs and my Naturalizer boots to keep them soft and in good shape. For fabric exteriors you can use mild detergents and soaps lathered up. Some sneakers can be put in some washing machines on low but depends on the shoe and the machine. For suede and faux suede, spot cleaning is best but I’m sure there are tutorials. For just disinfecting and not cleaning visible dirt, the shoe sprays do the trick. They kill most foot related bacterias and fungi.

Yeah I was confused by that, but perhaps they were rare true vintage? I need to actually read descriptions LOL - but the Vintage Foundry laceup flat brown leather boots I've been eyeing are like $250ish NEW and was 130ish during black friday... even then I didn't buy them - some day though some day LOL
