I think this was a really well thought out guide. I love that it was free. I have an eclectic style and I'm so glad you pointed out this is a style and not just a hodgepodge when done correctly. I love your style too!

Tasha I needed this in more ways than you know. I'm one of those eclectic people like I'd go thrifting and if I liked it I bought it. The mindset of I'll figure out somewhere to put it. Fast forward when I go thrifting now I donate by the car full and don't even go in the stores. It's ridiculous the amount of stuff I have. As I purge and try to figure out my style I love how cohesive yours look and find myself leaning towards more neutral colors. So thank you for these steps. I really appreciate it. Hope you're doing well. Looking forward to the next one.

Your journey really resonates with mine. I’ve noticed that new items in my budget often lack quality, so it’s inspiring to see the makeovers and ideas you and other designers share with us.
@TashaatHome4 ай бұрын
Love this. It's so true; if you don't have a large budget sometimes if you're buying new your choices are limited at best. That is why I love thrifting because it opens up the possibility of getting really quality items for a fraction of the cost. I'd so much rather have a secondhand truly quality piece (like the coffee table in my living room) that I thrifted and sanded, than a mediocre new piece that doesn't have that quality.

Love this! Kitty jumping into the basket is so sweet and real! I agree with high-impact items. Just one or two can be so much better than 10 little ones. ❤ I also chose to do this with plants. I love plants, but opted for some real, indoor ficus trees rather than a dozen small potted plants. We love them!

Thank you for this video. Your tips were exactly right. I love to thrift and I have certain rules for myself. I have to know exactly where I will put it, does it fit my style or can I DIY it to fit my style, and do I really need it. I never buy something because "it's such a good deal.". Those so-called good deals can sit in the closet a long time. I always look forward to your videos.

Hi Beautiful Tasha...so you are self taught. We are an estate sale couple. I used to buy everything. I had way too much in our home. I do love a collected artsy home, but over the last couple of years we have removed too much furniture, decluttered , and even though I have lots of stuff I absolutely love I dont have it out all at one time. I think with the bedrooms I have learned less is more and sleep is better when the rooms are calm. I dont like bright colors anymore in a bedroom. You are an inspiration. I definitely have gone to houses where I don't feel the love of the home. I had bought a beautifup little table at Goodwill for 8.99. I put it in the hallway. Everytime I went by it, I thought Tasha would not like that table there. I moved it in front of the living room window, and love it again. Have a great rest of the week. ❤❤❤❤
@TashaatHome4 ай бұрын
Yes definitely self taught and still have a ways to go! I'm laughing about your little table😹 I'm still decluttering and actually have the SUV loaded to donate more today if it's not too stormy (hurricane Helene is giving us lots of rain here in central NC). So happy my junk drawer, dining hutch, and baking cabinet are all decluttered and re-organized though!

I can't even begin to tell you how much I needed this today!!! I am in the midst of a cleaning/purging mess & I felt like I was going in circles ... literally {& in my head}!! I finally found a paint color that I like for my bedroom {this is where I am starting} ... that is after bringing home 4 different colors that were WRONG in so many ways, #5 was the winner!! So you helped me decide that there are so many things that I really can purge that will get me closer to the goal of getting my bedroom completely done ... & then on to the next area!!! Thank you, thank you ... THANK YOU so much!!!

Tasha, you have a wonderful eye for design. Thank you for sharing your talents with the rest of us! I do struggle with finding my style. I think I’m stuck between centuries but I do know I need to declutter! It’s so hard to declutter your parent’s and yourself at once! I’m a work in progress! 😅 Thanks for your wise guidance.
@TashaatHome4 ай бұрын
Well, you can definitely mix design styles! But it still should be intentional. I think the rule I've heard is you should do about 70/30. So let's say you like mid-century modern and you also like transitional style. In that case, you might do 70% transitional style and incorporate some mid-century modern pieces for about 30% of your decor or furnishings. You would still have a cohesive color scheme through it all though. It's when you have a little bit of glam, a little bit of mid-century, a little bit of traditional, a little bit of industrial, a farmhouse piece here or there... that things look iffy 😂
@donnamoye6844 ай бұрын
Thank you, part of the problem is I have recently moved my parent’s household to my home. They have moved to assisted living. I’ve donated, sold, and given away a lot. I’m also selling lots of my things as well. I do want to keep some so decluttering and making choices on what to display is hard. I need to rotate things in and out rather than to display too many at once. Easier said than done! 😅
@TashaatHome4 ай бұрын
That does sound difficult. I'd probably want to keep way more than I reasonably should ...

Reminds ME of when I started MY OWN "Style Journey".. I started with the desert Southwest look.. The cheap looking chintzy version of the 90s..Ughhh!!.. lol.. I'm not knocking Southwest Style @ALL..Cuz it IS a Legitimate Style..like Eclectic..if done right.. I'm thinking of Santa Fe or even Ralph Lauren are superb examples of this!.. Well..WHERE I've "landed" @ the moment is..French.. whether Parisienne..or.. French Country..as of 2025.. one can even throw a little Modern objects into the "mix"..lol.. Design is an..Evolution.. Bcuz it involves Style and Taste.. and that can change dramatically as Life changes.. Urz began when U went from renting to owning Ur home...and now Ur kind of "paying it forward" by passing on the Dos and Don'ts of Ur personal journey.. So.. Thnk U for keeping it Real and Relatable!!.. ✌️❤️😎👍🇺🇸

I’m a mid-century modern “minimalish” type of person. I have a roommate that is an ”everything” works type of person. We’ve kinda settled on a mid-century design in furniture & cottage core in decor. I’m constantly weeding it out & my roommate just brings it back in. LOL I love your steps 1-3. In my own room, I’m beginning that process with everything, clothing, closet organization, bathroom organization, furniture. I’ve finished my bathroom as far as I can right now. Just having everything decluttered, organized, things thrown out or donated that I’ll never use made me feel so much better about the room & myself. I’ll be more intentional with my bedroom & follow those first 3 steps more closely. I think it will keep me from getting “lost” in the process. I found this video very helpful. Thank you.

You're right, it feels so nice once you declutter a space! Even if it's just one cabinet at a time. And for some reason the bathroom and kitchen are two places that tend to get cluttered quickly, at least for me. I have some more purging to do today ☺️

Love the cat inspector! I’m a bit of a hodgepodge, due to liking mid century modern AND older antiques. It definitely helps to use storage items to keep things you need handy, yet not sitting out.

Excellent advice. I am currently in the Before season lol I know the style I like (transitional, earthy as well), but have the hardest time executing. I resonated with buying low vs high impact pieces. I’ve been thrifting cute small vessels & candlestick holders, only to stick them in an obscure spot until I have a “vignette” spot picked out 🤦🏽♀️. I will think LARGE now. 🙌🏽 this channel is so helpful to me.

I'm so glad you found it helpful! I think many people get stuck in that stage where they have lots of small accessories. Part of it is that they are maybe just easier to find secondhand than big items too. I think adding in a few Marketplace or retail sale finds for key larger items you need is still a money-saving way to get your style rolling. 🤗

This is a great video! I love, love, love the style of your home and often keep in it mind when I'm envisioning decor in my own home, yet I get paralyzed. Then, the other day at an auction, I bought an art bright art piece that spoke to me (art never speaks to me) and for a couple of weeks after that I've had buyers remorse. I finally hung it up facing the door of one of our empty guest rooms facing the door. I LOVE it! The husband loves it. Then on Tuesday, I found a decorator on YT that did a 10 minute, step-by-step tutorial on how to create a mood board on Canva. So I spent two hours designing a room around that piece of artwork and love it (on Canvas) so much that when I see that room now I'm disappointed that it's empty. Isn't that funny? It's a lithograph of a Salvador Dali painting with a tree, and butterflies, and a melting clock and bright oranges and greens and all of the happy brightness. So now I'm thinking I'm just gonna have themed bedrooms and the main spaces of the home will be calm and neutral and cohesive. IDK. We'll see where it all goes. Historically, I've always been more bold in my guest rooms than in my own room or the rest of the living spaces. Looking forward to Part 2! Happy Tasha Wednesday, y'all!

It's so wonderful when it all comes together! Using Canva to get your vision together was a great move. (I use Canva to make these videos too.) It sounds lovely, I'm glad you had a rare moment of "movement" from art!
