Re: your newspaper comment- I was 28 in 1984. Yes, it was an interesting year to be alive and a female. I remember being referred to as a "spinster" in the legal documents of my first house purchase. It really just means "unmarried female", but I was offended because I don't think an unmarried male would have "bachelor" in his house purchase papers!

I ran into the same sort of thing here in Florida in 1994. I was married but separated from my husband and was looking for financing to buy a small home. Even though my credit was FAR better than my husband’s, I still had a devil of a time finding a lender. And when I did, the man who owned the Title company tried to tell me that I HAD TO put his name on the deed along with mine. I refused and threatened to go elsewhere, so finally got my way. 😡😡😡! I paid my 15 year mortgage off in 10 years with no one’s help, thank you very much!

Spinster in 84? Wow... I didn't even realise people were still using this term then. Single/not in a relationship women are often seen as pathetic, sad, crazy cat Lady... Whereas single men are seen as having fun and a blast not being in a relationship. 🤔🙄😒

😔Disappointed you ladies faced such discrimination, but 🎉thrilled you were able to persevere in you plans to buy Real Estate in the end. We need to hear these stories, esp. the younger generations. 😉 Not a militant feminist by today's standards, but I'm going to sound like one when I say that is a brilliant example of systemic sexism in a patriarchal society. It even represents the misogyny that is entrenched into the fabric of the English language. Clearly, the only option should be for Single or Married on such applications full stop. In my lifetime, I have encountered a lot of women who take great pride in stating the fact they are either divorced or widowed specifically bcos it represents the fact they were once chosen for marriage. Again, even their former marital status gives women today a slightly higher social standing in the unspoken hierarchy of life. 💍When validating their own marital status it is often a subtle slam to their single sisters who never wed. 😣There is nothing worse than the condescending or faux sympathetic tone that comes with it. As a dedicated bachelor (refuse using "ette" version), I have been on the receiving end of that attitude frequently in my lifetime. As if a part of me doesn't already grieve the fact I didn't go the "until☠death do we part" route -- do I really need my nose👃rubbed into over & over like a misbehaving puppy🐶!? It is antiquated & evil😈 to belittle & ⛏chip away at the esteem of females who never married, while greatly elevating a man who has never succumbed to the state to almost💪super-hero proportions. Such double standards need to be routed out. "Spinster" needs to retire fully in our lexicon like many other out-dated phrases too. ☮Peace 💛Love 🌼Beauty

The jungle skirt... if it only has one seam, I would open that seam so you have an oblong piece of fabric. I would then use a nice black fabric to top and bottom as well as back piece. And bingo you have a bigger pillow!

@@michaelaredfearn7082 Mindreader! LOL! If the fabric is cut in an a-line as it appears, it would be more cumbersome to make a pillow cover. Putting it in a frame would eliminate the required finagling to get it into some sort of pillow shape while retaining the lovely patterns.
@teresacarle294
@teresacarle294 3 жыл бұрын
@@janetmoore1124 🤔Might be right about that shape & struggle to turn into a proper pillow. 💖Personally, I love pretty textiles turned into framed art or the mat for art or photography. Inherited beautiful garments from my mom that carried a lot of sentimental value, but they weren't exactly my style. Felt guilty chopping them up, but no one will appreciate these textiles quite like I do. Plus, now I can enjoy them through-out the year. They are protected from dust & direct ☀️sun-light too. Besides, not a person who wears patterns or even likes walls filled with them floor-to-ceiling. Pattern is not something I can usually stand for a long time, so I appreciate the versatility to swap them out easy. A little pattern goes a long way. It also keeps things fresh for each season or holiday.🎄 ❤☘🐰 🇺🇸 🎃 🦃

From one virgo to another, don't obsess about your hair, you look adorable!! Fun video!! I like how adaptable you are cuz I'm pretty sure that used to be your desk area. Happy to see you buying some blue and green. Have bought so much at a charity shop recently that is so remarkable, it's too hard to choose something to discuss. I did find a cream colored clay vase that I adore and I put it right by my door and holds autumn flowers currently and sits on a round caramel colored tablecloth topped with a beautiful gray, blue and cream scarf. On the same table a tall blue, cream and gray ceramic candle holder sits with a pretty candle. It all matches rugs I have on the floor!!! So fun!!!

Loved this one! Now I need to check out Anthropologie for ideas. Another skirt to pillow cover idea...who says it has to be a typical shape. Use skirt as is for the cover. Make an insert using inexpensive fabric in skirt shape and fill with fill. If you have an old bed pillow use that filling for insert. Otherwise buy an inexpensive bed pillow for the filling. Usually much cheaper than bagged craft filling. Put it in and hand sew the skirt edges together. Could make tassels for upper corners to balance out the wider bottom. Last thought if easier just sew up bottom of skirt fill with filling and sew up top edge. I think you need to do this as a diy project because I have been looking for textured fabric/ clothing to turn into pillow covers but can find nothing. That skirt is fabulous! Am Envious 🇨🇦😂

I finished school in 1984 and started srudying in 1985. One of my (male) lecturers walked in on the first day, looked around the room, and said: "I don't know what all these girls are doing here. They will just get married and have children." That REALLY put my back up. Needless to say, 35 years later, I am married, have children and am still working. Hope the younger generation appreciates the nonsense we had to deal with! Love the shelves, Hermione.

That is hilarious, I now feel very old. I turned 21 in 1984. Things were cheaper but I remember I only earned about $12000 a year (about 6000 pounds) working fulltime in a bank - i'm in Australia. My wife and I just bought our first home 3 weeks ago and I am having a wonderful time decorating it. I would love to see an art deco or mid century modern search. I love your style your home is so pretty.

Isn’t she fun? 😁 she used to belong to my great grandad so it’s nice to have her on my bar cart so I can toast to him! I keep looking in second hand shops and never find anything like her 😱💖
