In 1972, Hurricane Agnes flooded the southern tier of upstate NY. Specifically, it flooded the Corning, NY area and I remember watching it unfold from the top of the hospital roof just off Route 17. To make a short story shorter, my older brother had a friend whose father was one of the people responsible for hauling away any/all of the glassware (Pyrex, etc) that had been touched by the floodwaters. Bet I could figure out where it was dumped. Another true story, my father was a PhD engineer for 20+ years at Corning specializing in high temperature ceramics and was deeply involved in many of the products that Corning produced..

Yes, my daughter's Girl Scout troop went to the Corning Glass Museum last year and they showed us where the flood waters reached. The museum itself is so beautiful!!

In 1958 my parents moved out of their city cold water flat and into their 1st home in to small town usa where i grew up. My mom purchase an entire set of amish butter nut(turquoise blue & white) pyrex set of cinderella bowls, casserole dishes in every size and shape. I still have them. I have my grandmother and mothers kitchen gagets and dishes and their old metal kitchen cabinet and utility cart. I also have a complete set of silverware with serving pieces from the 50s my parents got on a wedding anniversary alone with a complete set of china from 1961(the yr i was born), that my dad bought for my mom as a xmas present. After my mom passed and me being the only girl, i got it all. Being crazy for old things i thought what should i do with it all. Living in a house built in 1890 i thought what better thing to do then to turn my kitchen into total vintage. I did it in turquoise, soft yellow and a little splash of red here and there. Now when u walk in my kitchen u would swear u just walked back in time. All the items are lovingly used and i feel my mom and grandmothers presents everytime i walk in my kitchen. Im so glad my mother had OCD and took such good care of these things including her butcher block square island she bought in the early 60s...lol As i look around this kitchen u make me scared to think of the money that may be surrounding me.😬

No on the molds, yes on the sugar and creamer set. The term Decorative Use Only is because there is lead in the glaze which is toxic. It’s possible that is Beatrix Potter’s Jemima Puddle Duck, I’d check before listing as Mother Goose. Fun finds!

Quick tip ... (I’ve worked in two different thrift stores) the get in new things ALL the time ... but - the things they get in depend on the community they are located in for the most part. Sooo ... if you find a store that has the things you are looking for ... DON’T skip going back! Sometimes donations from one source won’t get processed and put out on the same days!!!

Looks like you did good girlfriend. Sue & You make such a good team. Can't believe that gal was throwing a fit for you filming. Does she not know that practically everyone has a phone that films these days?! Did she have a sign up saying no filming in her store? If she didn't, she was having a hissy-fit for nothing. You would think it would be good for her business, but then again if she was pricing things too high and misleading folks about the age of the items, maybe she didn't want it exposed to the light of day?! ha ha ha This was good fun and the only thing I like better than thrifting myself, is watching you and Sue finding the goodies.

Sue they usually say for decorative use only, is because the white glaze has lead in it. Many low fire ceramic pieces have lead so the glaze shines and the colors pop. This was figured out in the seventies, because many people were buying Mexican pottery pitchers, and serving orange juice in them. The acid in the oj reacted the lead and gave many people lead poisoning. You are right about so many things, this is just one of my favorite subjects: ceramics. Why don't you ever buy any McCoy pottery? That stuff is really out there. Does it not have a good resale value? I have collected it for a while, and love it. But it's not everyone's cup of tea.⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜⛄❄💙💜
