Night Hawk: F-117A Stealth Fighter 2.0 is MicroProse's follow-up to the earlier F-19 Stealth Fighter. Gameplay is identical to the previous title, but the game features a large graphics and sound overhaul. F-117 also includes higher detailed cutscenes and menus. Players can fly in a handful of hypothetical scenarios against the Soviet Union and Iran. Also, since this game was released after Operation Desert Storm, an ODS campaign is included as well.
This simulation features adjustable difficulty and 'realism'. However, it should be noted that the game allows players to load air-to-air weaponry as well as an internal gun, neither of which were ever carried by the real F-117 - it was never a dogfighter. Instead, it was designed to sneak into heavily-defended areas undetected and attack high-value targets with precision weaponry. As such, it carried one or two bombs to do its job, which was all that it needed.

I started gaming with CGA monitor and beeping PC speakers...so when these VGA graphics and midi sounds appeared, it was out of this world.

This early 90's Flight Simulations have a special atmosphere. And i love the mission entry music when you roll out of the hangar.

I think you have to reach 255 + 1 missions. If the game takes this into account, they will probably retire you sooner. And if you want to save yourself the time, you can just use a hex editor and give it a try. ;)

This game is the perfect example of a sequel that had far more options better graphics but the secret sauce that made the first game so enjoyable was somehow missing.

The F-117 was more realistic, but less cool, and less fun, than the fictional F-19. Also, the game wasn't something new and groundbreaking anymore. It was just an upgrade of the previous game.

I guess the code is 90% the same as F-15 Strike Eagle II, from 1989. And that game was brilliant in many aspects at the time of it was releases.

and F-15 Strike Eagle II has 96% of F-19 Stealth Fighter (1988) code

@@pelimies1818 there was/is an official update so you can switch to F117-A 3D model :) i'm playing it right now, but i prefer F19 3D model. you must replace files. but in Amiga version (1990) you can do it from in-game menu.

@@andrejrockshox Thanks for the info, that is interesting developement.. I really liked SEII for it's "real life world". Seeing the enemy planes take-off, etc. Other sims just spammed enemies from thin air every 30 seconds.. I think Microprose really hit spot-on in this series with it's dynamic surroundings. I have to take a look at the F117-mod.. Thanks again.

@@pelimies1818 yeah, well F19 introduced this "real life world" first. i like SEII very much, but it is sooo much easier to play because you are in a powerful plane and just dodge rockets. F-19 on the other hand has very weak engines, you can only make hard turns if your speed is high, but then you will consume fuel at an alarming rate. you have to fly slow and low and learn how to avoid detection from two kinds of radars (pulse and doppler). enemy planes also have 2 different kinds of radars, so the techniques to avoid detection apply to them too. very hard to learn how to play proper on elite difficulty, but really nice game. Interesting thing and what i really wonder is how did they even know of stealth plane and tech BEFORE the real plane was presented to public. i thought it was a secret black project or something. when real plane was presented to public THEN microprose made the patch, when they found out how the plane really looks like (and it's real "F-117A" designation). :) there is a guy/channel who made simple to use .BAT file to switch between F-19 and F-117A models (and scenery) channel: damsonn video: F-19 Stealth Fighter Scenario Selector (tool for using maps from F-15 Strike Eagle 2 + download) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKvdd593adKJfsU in the video you will see his older version that just switches scenery, but look at the descrition and use download link to get all-in-one package (scenery, 3D models, and .BAT file)

Best missions were the Iran missions where you land on a secret strip to deliver something and then trying to get out without trouble.

Question to all the players of this game here: Did you play the F-117A in realistic mode without anti-aircraft capability or did you prefer playing the F-19 style mode with anti-aircraft capability?
