16:23 is one of the better shots I've seen. Seems simple, but it reflects an incredible level of cue ball control. Yes Alex makes mistakes elsewhere, but this shot is impressive - and not because of the bank. For Alex the bank is childs play. It is the draw to an exact position.

Love these commentators, much more interesting than the most I’ve heard. Taking bets on which ball and the general banter. Made the crazy long waits interesting and do these tourney’s not have some sort of shot clock? They should be able to call clock on the opposing player like in poker, I can’t believe they give them 5 mins to contemplate shots. Whoever came up with the 40 sec shot clock in most matches I’ve seen, give that man a beer!

Really not qualified. Would love to see their credentials.

@blackmamba99971
@blackmamba99971 3 жыл бұрын
Tournaments use them because using the thick duroplastic racks sometimes causes the balls to shift by a few millimeters when you try and remove it. When that happens the person who breaks will make more balls off the shot. The league decided that using thin acetate racks reduces the chance of ball shifting to make it fair all round for each player when they break. I agree that it works much better than duroplastic.

And alex should try and shoot the god damn ball when its presented as a gift. I've played pool for thirty years and played in various leagues winning a few of them. But I have to agree with the audience, he uses too much time to shoot. Looking at the table myself I know exactly what ball to go for and how to set up for the next one, but his constant staring at the table was causing some dismay even with the audience who was there watching it. I'm sure some of them even got their social security checks waiting for him to take a shot. Overthinking a game can cost a match, and he almost lost the final because of his over thinking along with Boening. Both of them shouldn't have had to waste nearly three hours for ten frames. The most a final tournament should last with ten frames is about an hour and twenty minutes. But because of the No Shot clock policy they took advantage of that and I wasted my time watching it. I aged several years because of it. I lost some hair. And now I have to go a get some rogain, and some just for men hair solution to get rid of the grey. Plus some depends, and extra strength laxative. You see what I mean? Snooker players don't even take that long unless its in the very last final frames which are 35 frames, which can sometimes last four hours. Ronnie O'sullivan who is a snooker player made the world record book for shooting a perfect 147 in five minutes and six seconds. And that is on a six by twelve table. The difference is, is that no snooker player has taken more then a minute or two to contemplate a simple shot.

Great answer and as you can read in the comments, Alex plays so slow compared to Shane that I would think that alone is the reason not to play him. Thanks.

Would love to see 8-ball tournaments use the take what you make rule off the break...that would make it tougher to run out & make it more interesting

Those commentators talked so much shit about Alex and down played his ability and skill im glad he came back and won
@DustinLe

seriously you can see the narrative go from talking shit about him to saying that he "stepped up to Shane's level". Like he isn't one of the greatest in the world to ever do it.

To all the people bitching about alex’s slow play, I’ll grant you some time were excessive but I’ll wager not many of you play competitive 8 ball. Strategy folks. Dozens of potential runouts, breakouts and positions to play. More to run through than a game of 9 ball. Call shot no fluking. If you like high level pool you’ll enjoy the planning as much as the playing. It’s like a fair weather mma fan bitching when their on the ground. “They’re just layin there, do something”. Jujitsu strategy. Same shit bitches. Don’t like don’t watch

Sorry, but he is too slow to play at that professional level in a final Tournament. Plenty of sports require a limited amount of time to play in order to be fair and competitive.

probably didnt feel like he could get position for the 5 since the was a couple balls in the way and the 8 was blocking the middle pocket. the 8 made it so that he couldnt luck out with position and possibly get the 5 to get in the middle pocket if he got lucky enough to get through the stripes somehow

2 years and nobody gave the correct and simple explanation. It's an obvious fluke and flukes don't count in that tournament.

He said his ball in right pocket. Ball did not go where he said it will go. Lose your turn. rules. You can't say one thing and by luck something completely different happens and continue.
