In episode 7 of the THRIVERY Podcast, we welcome special guest Julie Stotlar, who shares a deeply personal story of tragedy and how she has honored her daughter's memory by creating the organization, GrieveWell. Julie is a mother of three, wife to her adored husband of 41 years, Doug, a doctor of veterinary medicine, and someone that has experienced unimaginable loss. On March 21, 2000, Julie and Doug’s 6-year-old daughter Lauren was tragically killed by her school bus driver at the bottom of their driveway. Julie was the first person to reach Lauren and begin CPR.
This heartbreaking experience inspired Julie and Doug to advocate for family presence in healthcare settings, particularly at Mott’s Children’s Hospital, and to create GrieveWell, a grief support organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. GrieveWell offers peer-to-peer support, creative grief activities, webinars, and online grief alleviating yoga to help individuals cope with the loss of a loved one, including pet loss. The organization’s mission has expanded far beyond Michigan, with people from all over the world accessing its online offerings. Julie's work with GrieveWell is a loving tribute to Lauren Christine, turning a family's tragic loss into a source of support and healing for others.
