When she first started performing live at the Music Hall, there was no cover charge. And even before the pandemic it only cost $4 plus food and beverages to hear two hours of live Katrina. And $20 bucks or less, she would do your requests.

Katrina's success story is an inspiring inr because she started from scratch and she had a hard life. she supported her own education when she had thr capability but had to stop because she couldn't study and do music at the same. time. she chose music because that helped her earn money which they needed. she would scour the entire country for AMATEUR singing contests and that's the reason she can't continue school due to constant traveling. i guess pursuing her passion paid off.

She is awesome. Thank you for great reaction which was real tribute to her immense talent. Her life story includes a beautiful romance and a short-lived marriage with the very talented American musician Mike Shapiro, percussionist and producer. He was at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. He and Katrina were introduced by Gary Valenciano. Mike was Gary's drummer when he did concerts in the US. Mike often played when artists like Sergio Mendez came to the Philippines for concerts. They had planned to marry then pandemic happened. They finally married in May 2021, but sadly he passed away in Nov 2021.

Among live performers, Katrina Velarde is arguably the best singer in the Philippines. Sound mixers working her concerts have been known to get bored out of their skulls from lack of need to adjust her volume levels. Her microphone technique is S-level owing to her long experience working the amateur singing contests for years starting from 9 years young. There was even a finals performance about a decade ago where she continued singing while being electrocuted by the microphone's 48V, in the rain! Did not even miss a beat and went on afterwards to warn the organizer of the problem. Boss level professional.

the guy on drums and percussion in the Latin medley video is Mike Shapiro, Katrina's late husband, who was an esteemed producer/musician in the US. the I SURRENDER cover with Jessica was thr very first cover/video she made after Mike's passing and it took a little while for her because she was in the grieving process, maybe that's why she was still wearing black in that video. she became a wife and a widow i. a span of 6 months. 😢

Her first live attempt of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” @ the MusicHall Metrowalk on July 4th 2018 was more raw and an anticipated rendition than this in her bedroom since that one @ the MusicHall was as close as Patti’s version, which was crazy extreme. We all know how Patti sings! Kat did a couple of notches higher on her outro in that version, and the length and the ascending notes was unbelievably crazy. I really thought you’ll review that one. Anyhow, you might want to listen and watch to that gig in your private break time. You won’t regret it. That vid doesn’t have any extra clip of a person dancing to the tune. Lol!
