If you guys don't know, I thought it might interest you to know that RM went into a ROKA (Rep of Korea Army) Band and is playing saxophone as his enlistment duty. In addition, he has been spotted with a Buddhist Chaplain's patch on his uniform, so he is also doing that. These things may seem strange, but they are completely in line with his identity as a musician, a lifelong learner, a bold experimenter and someone who has done a lot of exploration of philosophy and religions and existential questioning and internal reflection.

Also, the Lost MV is winning major awards at international film festivals. His documentary of his album making is also debuting at film festivals. The album was billed as an Indie album by Big Hit before release. We were all speculating Indie-what?? The answer appears to be "Yes." Indie-everything.

You're absolutely right on what you're saying at the end. Not all artists have that privilege to experiment. Not just privilege, it's also confidence, openness, knowledge, interest & control over their musical route. Rm & bts members proved during their solo era that they can do the music they want may it be pop, ballad, jazz, rock, rnb, rap, or even this mixed of an album. They're not afraid to do the music they want & they proved to everyone that they're in control. It's not like their company, which they built btw, make them not to do specific genres bec fans might lose interest. No. They let them showcase thwir own musical ability & choice of genre. Regardless if army would want them or not.

All we (ARMY) have ever wanted for all the members were for them to be able to do whatever they wanted ..like artistic freedom...and in a live with RM last year we told him to do exactly that because he was working on this album at the time. And I'm so happy he was able to do this before he went to the military he definitely needed to go through this whole process...and thank you for going through his whole album and appreciating it even if its not your style of music you prefer 💜

The album title, “Right Place, Wrong Person” is key to understanding his surprising choices in this album In his intro track, he mentions that he’s getting high on a forest fire. He’s burning it all down & loosing himself in it all. The experimental nature of the music mirrors this chaos Also as he’s rapping from the perspective of the “wrong person” his swearing & rage seem lyrically and sonically on point The album contains a series of labyrinths in the 10 tracks, ultimately leading back to himself The “right place” for an artist is a place where they feel unsure & also the “right place” is where they can authentically be & express themselves

They Continue to produce new music and are not afraid to explore different things. I for one appreciate that. I don’t need them to win a Grammy to find that out. I only support their quest for a Grammy because they want to be acknowledged with one.

I listen to this album everyday and it gets better every time. When you listen to it non stop it’s amazing, the transitions between songs, mainly the first 4 songs, seem like it’s just one long song. It would be better if you listen to an album, that you listen to the recorded version. Music videos have a lot of noise that is not part of the songs

The documentary for the making of this RPWP album was screened in Busan International Film Festival just YESTERDAY, and the show was SOLD OUT (unheard of in a film festival, esp for a docu). RM is the first Kpop Artist to have a film debut at a major film festival! People are saying that this is a very good docu, very raw, sincere, and intensely showing RM's thought and artistic processes for this album as well as the deep struggles on finding himself. This docu will be aired globally in theatres this December, so you guys might want to have this on your radar.

Sharing this article written last June that encapsulates how extraordinary Right Place Wrong Person truly is. Title: "The Grammys need to ditch their K-Pop bias and consider RM’s ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ for their biggest award" It's never too early for Grammy talk By Francisca Tinoco Published: Jun 12, 2024 This year in music has been one of the busiest we’ve seen in the past decade. The biggest names in the industry have, are, or will be putting out new albums, setting the Grammys up to be an absolute bloodbath. Yet still, there should be space among the nominees for an underdog, a wild card. RM‘s Right Place, Wrong Person album is easily one of the best productions to come out of 2024. It’s an experimental, boundary-pushing, fresh, conceptual hip-hop project with something to say. Across 11 incredibly distinct tracks (including three interludes), the 29-year-old rapper - who’s currently completing his military service in South Korea - lets loose on topics ranging from romantic heartbreak to the pressures of his status as the leader of the world’s biggest band. The disheveled nature of the album’s production reflects RM’s marked refusal to conform to the neat and proper confines that the country’s media, cultural, and political forces have long attempted to force him into. Sonically, Right Place, Wrong Person keeps the listener on their toes with constant twists and irreverent instrumentation, while never losing the groove and coolness that has come to define the rapper’s solo music. In short, it’s an album that is very clearly deserving of critical and institutional attention but frustratingly is most likely to not get much of either. It received positive reviews from magazines like NME and Rolling Stone and turned the heads of a few online critics like theneedledrop’s Anthony Fantano, but did not make as much noise as a similar release from a Western artist could have. As with any release from a BTS member, powered by its tireless fanbase, it was fairly successful on the Billboard charts, debuting at number 5 on Billboard 200 and at number 1 on its Top Rap Albums chart. Frankly, Right Place Wrong Person has everything working against it. Rap albums and artists of color (especially those not from the U.S.) aren’t the Recording Academy’s preferred genre or demographic as it is, but to make matters worse, RM comes from a prolific pop boy band, a category the Grammys typically and traditionally like to ignore. That is why it was an achievement in and of itself when BTS were nominated - three times for their music, and an extra two times for their feature on Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres album - especially considering the animosity the American music industry usually reserves for anything that is non-Western. Even then, the band was pushed towards the same category every time, one that’s far from being among the Grammys’ most important - Best Pop Duo/Group Performance - and still didn’t win it once, despite meritorious chart performance and cultural impact. Oh, and only their English-language singles were ever considered, despite their Korean-language music being far superior in quality, and actually written and produced by the band members. The difference was that the band’s fan collective, known as the Army, was simply too large and loud to be ignored, making it impossible for the Grammys to quietly shun BTS like what happened with the likes of One Direction in the past. With RM, however, it is far trickier, even if Right Place, Wrong Person is arguably bolder, more mature, and more interesting than BTS’s radio-friendly repertoire. The name brand is simply not as resonant as BTS’s and the appeal of the music, especially after this more alternative attempt, is narrower. An artist and an album need to build and keep momentum to even cross the hairs of the Recording Academy come Grammys nominations time. With RM unable to campaign for the album in person and the fandom dispersed, it’s hard to imagine a future where Right Place, Wrong Person is featured among the list of nominees, even if it’s just as deserving as the albums that will be. Right Place, Wrong Person is Album of The Year material, but it might not even pick up Rap, Pop, or R&B nominations. Still, if RM ever comes to receive the acclaim and prestige he is owed, this article may serve as an artifact of a time when he was unjustly overlooked.

I just love that while listening to the different tracks and watching their mvs you feel lost and sometimes don’t get the lyrics or the mv. It just really makes one interested in what is going on/happening and what’s the meaning. Also I like that it’s sometimes hard to understand the lyrics or mvs because feelings or thoughts are often very hectic and complex too. And I’m feeling that all this confusion is supposed to be something we feel because that’s what rm intended. Which I have to say if it really is like that is actually very cool and different from other albums.

If you loop Around the World in a Day while listening to it with good quality headphones, it actually sounds like a restart of a day cause the music ends with an evolved version of how the song started. I think many artists can experiment with their sounds esp if they are at the top of their game BUT what we get is the very artistes at that top echleon who stay away from expanding their sounds...and if they actually do try then the usual reaction is less than enthusiastic or downright condemnation. The ones who do experiment are lumped into a non described category called "alternative". Namjoon may be a top name in kpop but doing this album is literally suicidal whether in kpop or universal music scene....but he just showed supreme guts....smart storyboarding....his usual poetic lyrics.....and super experimental instrumentation.......listening to RPWP feels like a surreal scratching of that sonic itch in your brain......so many accomplished artist want to do that but very few attempt it and do so well.......RPWP is that rare masterful piece of work that makes real artist cringe with jealousy....

Ever since RM's first mixtape in 2015 (also a banger) I always had a feeling there was something more raw, unfiltered and experimental to come in the future... but then BTS got unexpectedly popular beyond their wildest dreams, and they were suddenly in the brightest spotlight imaginable with vast amounts of pressure weighing down on them... this album feels like a big release of tension, with RM finally coming back to his roots, but with 10 years more perspective and maturity.

You really need to listen to it as a whole. Even the timing and transitions between songs is deliberately paced and thought out. "Genius' is right. It feels random but is so RIGHT! His last song is him telling us and himself to come back to his true self after this journey. I love it.

Exactly, his sonic choices are original and different. Even though I don't like the swear words, again, I agree with you ❤

I feel like this is RM's version of The Beatles' Revolver album...super experimental and just recording what feels good in the moment. Right Place, Wrong Person is the epitome of sonic art.

RM found the musicians to play the music. When it comes to the instruments, they are live musicians. We saw videos of that. Some of the greatest independent musicians. Have you ever been to a jazz bar?

I was working so I could not participate but I am here now. Love the creativity and risk-taking on this album. Each of them took their own risks and went where their artistry called to them. Love this album, Jimin's, Tae's, JHope and Junkook. Can't wait to see what Jin gives us.

Hi guys! It's nice to see you guys reacting to RPWP. It's such an amazing album! P.S.: It would be nice if you guys listened to the studio version of "Nuts" since the MV is a live version that I loved, but since you guys have already watched it, the studio version would be a nice choice 😊

I love this album & it feels to me like a Kim Namjoon platter or buffet... a smorgasbord of songs. I'm not a musician, so I can't pinpoint why, but every time I hear Heaven, I hear echoes of The Beach Boys Pet Sounds album, which is another favorite album.

? (Interlude) really lends itself to the style of Me'shell Ndegeocello's "Peace Beyond Passion" album. It has the same vibe. RM really outdoor himself on this album. It's been submitted for Grammy consideration. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves as a true music artist. Thank you guys! I really enjoyed your album review.

Is was such a journey to listen to. I think this album was really freeing for RM. he needed to find himself, his own voice outside of being RM of BTS. He was going through a lot at the time, and he needed to disconnect from the stress and expectations of BTS, to reconnect with Kim Namjoon. The result is this amazing album that just feels like he let go and let himself be himself if that makes sense. I would recommend you watch MiniMoni. It is 2 shows that is just RM and Jimin playing their albums for each other and talking about the inspiration for their albums. It is really amazing and gives you a glimpse of their thoughts and feeling during the time making these albums. The first one is RM playing his RPWP for Jimin, the second is Jimin playing Muse for RM. the time for RM was especially difficult and you just feel for him, and Jimin is such an amazing listener. He just understands RM, and has such empathy for him as well as all of the members.

I came late, but early enough to see the full reaction. Thanks for your full reaction of the album. I only wanted to add ..the musicians that helped Namjoon with the production did live covers from both songs: SUNSET ROLLERCOASTER-COME BACK TO ME y SILCA GEL-LOST!. Both are so good too if you wanna check those

Isn't this album amazing? You'll definitely have one or two favorites, and some others maybe not so much, but one thing's for sure: you definitely won't regret giving this album a go. He's experimenting a lot and letting go of so much burden in this album, you can FEEL how cathartic it is.
