Pulling the MR2 engine is an artform. I've done it about 7 times in the past year and I've gotten to the point where I can get it out in about an hour with no power tools or lift. First time is always the hardest

No need to disconnect the engine harness before dropping the engine, just disconnect it from the ecu & fuse box & it'll come out with the engine.

That 2gr is gonna wreck that s54 trans , you might want to consider sourcing a E153 trans and mr2 turbo axles and hubs later on

damm it took 3 guys to remove the engine, and i have to do it all on my own with a couple jacks. :'(.. MR2s are a pain to work on.

It's not that bad. It took them a long time because this is the first MR2 they've worked on. They realized halfway through the easiest thing to do is to drop the engine trans and subframe all as one unit, if you go that way from the start you'll have your engine out in a day.

Don't use the s54 if you actually plan on driving that thing how it should be driven. It'll die quickly due to the 2gr torque. Dump it and get an turbo e153 trans. Bob Pham is in Cali, look him up on Facebook and he can help you track down a trans I'm sure if he doesn't already have one.

To convert to the turbo trans you'd need a turbo clutch, the trans, turbo axle stubs, turbo axles, and hubs. For hubs you can actually use a mid 90s v6 Camry front hubs. They're the exact same but much cheaper. It'll be well worth your time to do so.

Remember to reverse bleed the clutch MC, by pushing fluid into the slave. Keep the nose tilted up. Nice job n good luck

damn you guys did that the hard way. you can leave the fusebox and tail light wiring, just disconnect the engine harness from the fuse box and ecu next time and pull the engine with the harness installed.

Planning, time constraints. Probably had to go with when the body shop could fit them in, and hadn't been able to pull the engine yet. Doing anything with the engines in those cars takes time because it's a pretty tight space.

Just as an example, it takes me 2 hours~ to pull the engine from my Civic, if I'm doing it by myself. Usually longer if someone is helping me (lol), but the MR-2 is a half a day affair. Especially with everything all nasty and corroded.

Umm yeah 3-SGE normally aspirated or 3-SGTE for TURBO, unless USA market is different the S54 is BMW. Oh will great content though and always fun to keep up with.

5SFE is the 2.2Ltr twin cam engine (what he removed). S54 is the manual transmission connected to it. 3SGE is the 2.0Ltr twin cam engine. 3SGTE is the 2.0Ltr turbo version.

just take pliers and twist them. breaks them loose and then pull right off or you use a hose pick. theres always a correct tool for a job
