Most of the Sunfire & Cavalier had the bulletproof 2.2L.. capable of 40mpg(17km/l) highway & could see 300,000 miles(482,000km) or more.. the reason you don't see them anymore is because Canada salts every road. Everything rots out up there. These cars are still on the road in the Southern USA. The 1990's had the most reliable vehicles ever built.

You know, for a cheaper vehicle back in the day, the way the carpets cleaned up so nicely shows how far worse we’ve come when it comes to quality. Today’s cars are half of that even at a mid range level car.

The money goes into different parts of the car now. These weren't as refined of a ride as a modern equivalent, and that's not even getting into crash safety.😬

That’s bullshit. I don’t know what car do you have but even now you can have pretty nice, solid car. But well, some people prefer old junk even if it’s dangerous to ride in it.

@@Poptanicwe're talking specifically about carpet quality. I have a '91 cavalier and a 2010 mazda 3. Both cheap small cars with no frills. The quality of the carpet and upholstery in the cavalier vs the mazda is on a different planet. I've cleaned newer cars, until you get to the bmw, mercedes, lexus, etc range, the carpets in new cars are terrible. They're fairly durable, but thin as paper. Once dirt or pet hair gets in them it's virtually impossible to remove. For this reason detailers call them "impossible carpet". It's 100% a cost cutting measure.

Wow what a great transformation. That sunfire looks amazing. These cars were so popular when I first got my license. All my friends ended up with either a sunfire or cavalier. I too had a 2001 grand am. I miss pontiac, I know many didn't care for them, but my grand am was my first new car that I worked hard for, and bought at 19 years old. I drove it for 18 years. Only ever had to change the starter. It was great car.

I just cleaned our daughter’s engine, the way you showed, and used my leaf blower to dry it all. I think you use one as well, but it worked phenomenally! Now for my truck, my husband is laughing at me right now! Have a great weekend. Cheers for the fab video and I hope your dad is home, resting comfortably and healing beautifully.

Very very popular car back in the day. Robust powertrain. Acres of cheap plastic. But very much affordable and reliable. They sold well in Canada and the U.S. tissue car - use it up and throw away. Nice to see one of these revived. It cleaned up well. Even with some of the rust poking through still has some life left in it.

NIce. I had a '98 Sunfire in an electric blue paint (indigo blue?). Performance-wise it was a typical econo-box, but it looked nice. I upgraded the speakers and fit a Sony 6-disc changer in the center console under the armrest. Your detailing alone probably doubled the value of that car. Well done, sir.

Hi Mitch, from Vancouver Island. Still see Sunfires and Cavaliers on the Island. :-) Wanted to mention that I picked up a detail brush almost identical to what you use, and not only is it great for detailing my 2010 Chev Equinox, but for housecleaning as well! Cleaning windows, getting into all those silly little corners, cupboards and drawers, all kinds of places which are so hard to clean. I picked up a couple of dollar store paint brushes (1" and 2.5") and use them for cleaning baseboards, stairs, etc. Don't know why I didn't think of this sooner! lol ....

Here's a great detailing tip. For use on black cars only (and with an intact clear coat) try using Turtle Wax: Black Box - it's a triple step black liquid wax that will make the exterior paint look like "black on steroids"! The results are truly absolutely amazing. Keep in mind, this liquid product is a bit messy so be sure to wear rubber gloves.

only thing i wish you would have done, was pop the plastic tabs in the shield around the wipers and vacuum down in the space under that where fresh air is brought into the cabin, the a/c components are, and the drains are. I would bet the entire area down into the fenders was full of needles, and now its just holding water, mud and mold. Not your fault alot of people forget to clean those area in cars like this, its just not thought about. A truck I'm and working on now was packed full of leave from sitting just like this.

I wish we had Pontiac back. We had a Pontiac Montana, and that was the best and most reliable vehicle. Easy to keep clean and we ran it to over 300k miles. Survived four kids and had it for 12 years. We needed an upgrade and chose a Chrysler Town and Country. Worst decision ever. That thing is always getting worked on. The "leather" has cracked and is falling apart and that started two years into owning it. Despite religiously cleaning it every week. It's true. They do not make cars like they used to.
