Thank you Vern and Willie I have a knockoff dx6 it’s a tx6i from hobby king that I have been going crazy trying to figure this programming out and after being on the phone with tech support and getting nowhere I ran into your video and I am happy that you have made this video because after watching I had the throttle cut programmed in less than a minute. Now I’m going to look for a video on setting up 3d mode and recovery mode for my 330x. Keep posting videos for us newbies we need all the help even with the simple things. Thank you!!!

Craig Morgan Craig, you are SO right, brother!!! Just yesterday at the field a heli pilot was having trouble with blade tracking, landed the heli, started to tinker with the bird, (forgot he didn't turn on throttle hold), bumped the TX throttle and the heli started to spin up scaring the crap out of him and everyone watching. I started practice using throttle hold with my first bird (a Blade 120SR) just so I wouldn't get into the lazy habit of not using it when I graduated to a larger heli like the 450X. It's no fun being a statistic...

I have both toggles set for "hold". The right side "typical" throttle hold switch. Also, the flight mode switch(3 position switch) set to 0-0-0-0-0% throttle at front and middle click. Only the 3rd click(away position) is it with active throttle. Thus, at lipo connection both my toggle switches are "pulled forward". If not, my futaba 7ch gives me "warning beeps". To fly I must push both toggles forward. How many times have we accidentally hit the left toggle(hold)? It happens. Both at once? Not highly probable. Hope this helps newbs. Also, as an advanced pilot I only fly with one flight mode(throttle 100-100-100-100-100%, and pitch 0-25-50-75-100%) and speed control w/soft start. Always take off with stick in the middle and always throttle cut/auto landings. Never "wonder" if you are on idle up for 3d flying(happenned once...and never again!). Keep on.

What happens if you hit throttle hold in flight? Is the throttle just shut off, or does it literally hold the throttle at the current speed? Thanks for the great video, this was the best explanation of throttle hold i've seen!
@PAW6110
@PAW6110 8 жыл бұрын
John, consider throttle hold as a kill switch for the motor. Once activated it takes the current power setting to zero. However, if you do not change the power setting and you turn it off, then the power returns to it previous setting. If you value your bodily safety, then ALWAYS use throttle hold when handling your models. This video should enhance the point: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYaYdpuog9l4mrM
@okcomputr
@okcomputr 8 жыл бұрын
Willie Hill, Jr That certainly does drive the point home!
@trexinvert
@trexinvert 8 жыл бұрын
You can replace term "hold" with "cut". (hold was term for nitro heli's, which you never ever kill the engine, but bring to idle instead). So for electrics, hold=cut=no power to motor. So, if you accidentally flip the switch...it goes straight down. (or on it's head if you are inverted). Thus, you gotta be ready for a straight down autorotation landing. What if you hit the switch back on? 90% chance you will chew up the main gear with the pinion, so don't rely on that. You need to hit the switch, sometimes. If you lose your tail control(broken belt, loose screw, servo/linkage fail,..etc.) and it starts to spin out of control, you gotta hit the switch. Also, most advance pilots always land with an auto, so they throttle cut as routine. If you fly a lot you will end up doing this. Remember, an auto doesn't mean "an auto" you can just be hovering a few inches or feet above ground...then hit cut/work the pitch and land...not hard.

Your video is very helpful but I'm having a problem. Using Spektrum dx6i when I turn on throttle hold throttle goes to 50% even with gimble all the way down and won't turn off---scary. Yes I'm a noob but could use some help here, Mike
@PAW6110
@PAW6110 10 жыл бұрын
Mike, I can think of two scenarios: 1) In the Throttle Cut menu see if the Pos: = 0% and the SW: = Hold, 2) Your throttle trim tab may be set too high. Lower it as far down as it will go. I hope this helps.

One of the most importand videos. I like! But I miss some importand information. When you fly Coaxials or Fixed Pitch Helicopters, usually you cut your throttle by simply moving the pitch stick down. That leads to the bad habit, doing that while flying a CP Helicopter, when you are loosing control before a crash. I had several crashes, more worse than they could be, because of that fucking habit. I would advise everyone, who is flying a Coax or FP, to get a Transmitter with a Throttle Hold as soon as possible, before even thinking of buying a CP, and get rid of that shitty RTF Radios. Get that habit, to use the Throttle Hold as early as possible, so you are doing that action on instinct, and not like me, getting in the situation where you have to break a really shitty habit. Now I try to get myself to always cut throttle, if something is out of control, and move pitch up, to soften the impact. Sorry for the bad english.

Very nice video, Willie. I have a DX8 and have my throttle hold/cut working - servo settings confirm that. But I wandered - When I turn on my tx, with hold off, it reads "Norm" and when I engage the throttle hold, it reads "FM 1" - it doesn't read "Hold" like yours did. Any idea why? Also, if my hold is on when I turn on the DX8, it rings/ribrates an alarm. It appears that my throttle hold needs to be off, when I turn on the DX8.

Dave, thanks for your comment. I'm not certain if you are making this statement in reference to flying a heli and you want to save yourself from personal injury or a serious crash. If so, I have found that when I panic no switch is close enough for me. So, I practice activating it with my right index finger. Additionally, I'm certain that you are aware that with the Spektrum TXs you can program throttle hold on any switch you choose aside from the recommended one. Now, if you are flying airplanes there is no reason to activate throttle hold while in flight. It's what I call a "static" switch meaning it's function on the ground is simply to avert the motor starting up when initializing the model and when picking it up after landing. Thanks for your input and I hope you subscribe to the channel. Enjoy!

Willie Hill, Jr wouldn't it be better to setup a throttle hold switch on a 3 position switch rather then a 2 position switch? The inhibit position in the middle would be there to allow you to adjust the throttle position for pitch transition before takeoff. Then when you land, you would switch it to the middle position so you can put the throttle stick all the way up to shut off the motor.
