This video is from our four-day skiing hike in the national park of Pallas-Yllästunturi, here in Lapland, Finland. I think these views were one of the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life. The Arctic wind blew throughout our hike and made everything even more ruthless than it is. Winter is tough.
Still, thanks to good preparation and cozy wilderness huts, our trip was warm and succeeded. I felt lighter and refreshed. Maybe the arctic wind blew away something unnecessary from me, too.

Thanks for sharing. My family had to flee Karelia in the 1930s when the neighbors decided to visit in so it great seeing the wilderness of Finland. My family settled in the northern part of Michigan in the US and it looks the same in the winter. Temperature is about -30 so no difference. The wind off the lake is really intense here as it is there.

what a great little travelogue!! the inherent simplicity and gentleness with which you approach all subjects ends up revealing the fundamentally complex nature of our lives. it's always so engaging when you do that. i'll never get tired saying 'thanks'!

Oh to be young again and I thought my Artic Survival Course was bad enough way back in the 1970's with British and Norwegian Forces. Especially as before I did it I had never skied in my life so it was an eye opener but overall I enjoyed it and looking back would not have participated except I was young and daft (stupid, try anything once) . But that looked dangerous but you survived to show the tale. Cheers Sanna and your partner.

Wow, you’ve gone through that kind of course, sounds really interesting! Especially in the ’70s, I can only imagine how it was back then 😅 We learn to ski and be in the wintery nature in school when we are kids.

Hej Sanna, what a beautiful trip and what a beautiful country 🤩 I also love finland soo much, we stay in the north of Lapland last year and two times in Helsinki the last 2 years.. We are living in Bavaria near Munich and its not so far from the mountains but there are much more people and less snow. This is what i love in Lapland, it is so quiet and there is this great wilderness, the reindeers and so much beautiful snow ❄️ I‘ve lost a piece of my heart in Lapland ❤️ Greetings and thank you for your beautiful vlogs 🙋🏼‍♀️

what a beautiful video!!!! With a beautiful story ☺I am a wimp when it comes down to cold whetter, but I wish I could make a trip like this someday. I feel like it could be very healing to be in a snowy world for days, nothing else on your mind than moving from cabin to cabin. I am in love with the snowy trees and hills. I am also very currious how the Park will look like without snow though. Must be as breath taking as this. Thank you for sharing your beautiful journey 💜

Wonderful. Your pulk seems to have worked well, and your skis are nice and wide to float over the snow. We also have huts in Canada and this type of ski touring is also practiced in National Parks. Have you ever camped in a traditional Saami lávvu? Looking forward to your next video!

Yes, all our gear worked out really well and it was easy to go with them. Oh, I love Canada and would love to visit there one day! 😍It's a lot similar than Finland, just more mountains 😁 I have visited a traditional Saami laavu, but not slept in one. There are not that many of them anymore and if there are, they are built for tourism only.

I wonder- what are those posts with the X on them? They remind me of our railroad crossing signs (here in the US) , in a way, but much smaller. Are they some sort of path marker?

Beautiful trip in icy-cold weather! Wind chill must be quite extreme in such conditions. Did you ever try using a tent as well? Would it be allowed even? Or do you have to use the huts?

do you have to worry about bears or wolves? we have to hang our food out of their reach here in north america when in the wilderness, and sometimes near towns if in the mountains.

Not without skis or snowshoes. There could be over a meter of snow in some places.

It’s always so fun to hear from people who live in different nature conditions since these are our every-day lives for 7months a year. It brings nice perspective to hear that it isn’t like this everywhere in the world 😁

@@sannavaara yes certainly brings awareness that we all do not have the same seasons with weather. I appreciate the sun so much more after seeing polar night. I also am fascinated with polar night at the aame time. Thanks for posting your type of life due to nature's decision.

I'm not totally sure, because we were out of the phone and internet connections but I'd say -5 to -15 celsius degrees. Maybe colder during the night.
