In your passage planning section I think it would be helpful to include the distance to the Needles as well as your anticipated average speed. This will explain why you are leaving when you are. Also, you barely mention the weather forecast which has a big impact on your course direction and the impact on your speed.

Nice video guys! But if I may….. Perhaps even better if you could include information about how far the passage is? 😃 And maybe even a quick T=D/S just to clarify the magic how you get to the certain number of hours you need to start in advance to get into the favourable tide at specific points? 😎

Absolutely, we missed on this one, although the distance to the needles entrance in this video is 20nm and we use 5 knots for passage planning purposes, so that makes 4 hours before. It gets a little more complicated if your sailing directly upwind as your VMG tends to be lower due to all the tacks and extra distance your sailing. Thanks for watching!

Great to see some passage planning, very informative. Having had a taster doing the competant crew course can't wait to do the day skipper.......only criticism, wtf was that music?🤣

Hi guys really enjoyed your video and looking at your passage planning. Where can you get the tide tables book you are using? We met btw on the water taxi at Lake Yard a couple of weeks ago, have you been there this whole time?
@CactusSailing4 жыл бұрын
It's from Admiralty publishing and called a "tidal stream atlas", Amazon is a good source to find them, there is also an App from Imray called "tides planner" which has the same information but is an annual subscription but worth it in our opinion. No we haven't been there the whole time :) we left the next morning, but we are a few weeks behind on our channel only because it takes some time to edit the footage.

Great video and really informative! I have a boat in Christchurch and may I ask what chart you have there with the whole of Poole and IOW etc? I’d love to buy one! Thanks!!
@CactusSailing3 жыл бұрын
I think that one is the imray iow and Solent approaches chart portfolio, you usually get 6/7 in the pack and it covers a fair few miles but they’re the right scale I find.

Hi guys, enjoying your vids. We have a bav 32 and I’m interested in how you mounted your TV on the bulkhead? I’ve got one to fit but want to make it neat and I noticed yours doesn’t have any wires showing. I’m keen to see how yours is mounted! Thanks in advance.
@CactusSailing4 жыл бұрын
Drill a hole behind the TV closer to the side of the boat, and there is a hanging locker in the forward cabin on the other side, where you can run the power cable to it - all out of sight :)

@@CactusSailing that's a great idea. Thankyou! Hope to see you guys out on the solent. If you see a Bav 32 'Ali Baba' that's us!

What's the nav light you have on the bow?
@CactusSailing4 жыл бұрын
It’s a bi colour on the front rail, the light shines a little onto the anchor hoop which sits below the lights, the camera makes it look brighter than it actually is too due to the low light conditions.
@stevenlarcombe18844 жыл бұрын
@@CactusSailing ah it's the reflection of the nav light, I thought you had some new cool designed nav light for a second and was after one myself 😁

Like you vids. Very informative, would prefer the engine noise than your choice of music though. Can’t please everyone
