A great tour thanks. We always wondered what was under all that wood and sails! The out takes are hilarious too - love that "deer in headlight" look. Too funny. Please hurry on the Airhead video as ours will be installed this month and we can use all the tips we can get.

Justin Valois Hey Justin, thanks for the comment! Is Hawaii not liveaboard friendly? We thought there need to be more interior WS videos out there :)

Through the Portlight Unfortunately, no. The geographic issues aside, I have found HI to have pretty stringent rules about almost any part of life on the water. I greatly look forward to enjoying your future videos!

+legend343 Hi Warren! Thank you for the comment. Yes, there are lots of lockers aboard, but we still have too many things to find a home for. We cannot complain about the space in the engine room... it's not bad at all. We find that the Beta Marine is designed well for ease of maintenance.

Great video guys! I noticed you have your extra sails and stuff in plastic trash bags. Here's a tip, to find great large sturdy drawstring bags made of nylon, just go to a discount or dollar store and ask for their laundry bags that they sell. I got several in different colors for only $1 each!

What a cool little series, I'm hoping to move aboard a boat in December, I don't think many Westsail yachts are available in Scotland though. As a student it will be a smaller boat cost to the size of that one you had a few years back. Wish me luck, I'm glad to see you guys have just went for it. Slàinte (good health/luck)

Pardon my ignorance but where does the fresh water come from to cool your engine? Is there a radiator somewhere or a separate tank dedicated to water for the engine? Thank you for sharing your adventure, your boat is beautiful and you two seem to have the perfect disposition. I love how you are always smiling. Fair winds and calm seas.
@oceandrew8 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken there is a fresh water reservoir for the coolant and a heat exchanger that works as a radiator that uses salt water to draw off excess heat... that's the water you see "puffing" out with the exhaust gasses.

Very nicely done video. May I offer a thought or two. My wife and i did just what you guys are doing. Living aboard and cruising. Actually, we lived aboard for over ten years and cruised the Caribbean. I noticed that you added white cedar and insulation on one bulkhead. Great idea....however please keep in mind that "stuff" might need attention from time to time is now covered up, i.e chainplates etc so make things accessible. Also, when possible hold onto you electronics money and wait until its time to actually cruise. Electronics and new stuff comes out all the time so its possible that the "just gota have" things will be completely outdated when you are really ready to take off. Of course there is MUCH to cruising safely, but you will figure that out. One last thing, if i may. If you haven't seen the movie "Capt. Ron" (just type that in youtube search bar)!!...make that your next priority and I promise that you will enjoy the movie and you will be ready to cast the lines at daybreak and just go. Good luck with your endeavors..
@ThroughthePortlight9 жыл бұрын
CaptRon817 Hello, and thanks for the thoughts - they are good points. On the pilot berth bulkhead, we have cut the cedar panels so that the ones covering the chainplates can be unscrewed and accessed easily. Same in the V-berth, to access the bowsprit shrouds (which some call the whisker stays). We agree that waiting until we go is the time to buy the electronics, so that we have the up-to-date things. However, our current electronics came with the boat (GPS Chartplotter, radar and VHF radio). We shall check out the "Capt. Ron" movie that you mentioned :) Thanks!

Bummer about the Newport heater sitting so low. The PO could have easily solved it by just adding a low flow pump and switch on the heater to feed the fire pot. The gravity feed stops working when heeled anyway so it's kinda necessary. The Whale pump takes a really nice locker space away. You could relocate it up high in the engine compartment. Are you having to setup a hose to pump into the cockpit every time?
@ThroughthePortlight9 жыл бұрын
SV Satori Hello! Yes, there are many things the previous owner could have done :P We have thought about relocating the Whale gusher pump elsewhere, but for now, this is where it lives, and the hose is coiled up in the locker, attached to the pump, so it is ready to go.

robert rosatte Hi Robert. It may have been the type of hoses, or something else, but we do like not having to rely on finding a pump out and also the simplicity of the system.
