Throwback Thursday: 2003 Subaru Baja Test Drive

Despite positive reviews for design and reliability, the Baja never performed in the showroom and was discontinued in 2006.
Let's see what Graeme thought at the time.

Yeah, I looked it up beforehand, it's about 2.2 meters (if you don't include the bed extender). And just over 1 meter if you don't fold down the pass-through AND don't use the bed extender.

I disagree, the new Baja does not have to tow 4,000 lbs. I do appreciate your interest in the Baja. I have the same interest and am hoping they will bring it back so I can buy one. I'm about to buy our third Forester, a Forester Wilderness.

The vehicle is discontinued. Subaru no longer makes the Baja so it's impossible to find new, the oldest model is 15 at this point

had a 2006, with a detuned wrx engine. Had it shipped from New York. Terrible suspension ( to stiff), the leatherette upholstery was sweaty, fuel economy was not what I was hoping for. Had it for a year and a half, sold it for a little more than I bought it for including all costs and currency exchange. Subaru's have never been good in interior design either.
