As a VIP, I'm not gonna lie when people react to BIGBANG, I always have a smirk on my face like "ooh yaasss that's BIGBANG!" Well YG ent and YG artists (BIGBANG, 2NE1, WINNER, IKON, BLACKPINK, Treasure..) always think in advance.. they not only think of songs that fits that year but that fits for a long time and even for their M/Vs.. It's cathartic and vindicating watching someone enjoy second gen kpop for the first time. Mr X I don't know in western country but back then Bigbang and Super Junior is really popular in Asia back then and looked at rivals. So Bigbang going BIG like two times here, when they debuted ( end of 2006 ) where people see them on magazines and old web like KZbin,radio etc. And the second time is their ALIVE era where literally going virals alongside PSY and the first k boyband hit 100M views on YT.

Its hard for new fans to understand the influence bigbang had on the genre. Both BTS and Blackpink were heavily influenced by them in different ways. They really revolutionised it, but managed to stay relevant and at the top in like three different eras of kpop. And all are extremely successful soloists in their own right. especially Taeyang -the mohawk singer, and GDragon - the one with the weird hat. You'll see GDragons name pop up everywhere, pretty much every group after bigbang has one or two people that were directly inspired by him.
