Throwback to the Beginning! July 2020 Log Debarking

In the summer of 2020, Nalini and I moved to Texarkana and lived with my parents. My mom's favorite tree on their property, a red oak estimated to be around 85-90 years old, fell in a windstorm, and we asked for it to be cut in 8-10 foot lengths so we could use it for the Cob Mahal. 10 of these 14 logs were used as posts and beams, and two were milled into boards for our roof sheathing. The debarking of these logs was the very first work we put into our home, and, looking back, I find it adorable that we just used a putty knife, a chisel, and a hammer to get all this work done. From July 12-20th, we worked hard getting these logs prepped, and we're proud to say that they'll forever be a part of the Cob Mahal.
