Whats odd is, just like the 2019 players, they played both the stars and sharks, they beat the stars in 7 games both times, and both times they faced the sharks it ended in 6 games.

The only real changes in the 2016-19 players are no Bergy, Lehtera, Backes (thank God he didn't beat us, that would've been humiliating af), and Shatty, and ofc having ROR, Binner, Bozie, Patty, and Schenner, which is also kinda ironic

This run was amazing for St. Louis. It really expanded the fan base and it really felt like we were getting close to a cup. It took 3 more years but we got it.

This was the first time I had ever seen my blues go on a respectable playoff run out of all the years I’ve watched hockey. Looking back on it, we absolutely should’ve beaten San Jose... completely inexcusable but I guess we ran out of gas. I don’t know if we would’ve won it that year but we definitely would’ve put up a better fight against Pittsburgh.

I really think the biggest difference from this team and the Stanley Cup team was goaltending. This team had more upfront talent then the Cup team but not as much four line depth. I thought that Brian Elliot played good in the first two rounds, but struggled against San Jose, which I felt was the difference.

He would've had to have deiked Lehtonen out of his goalie skates with some crazy between the legs kinda move to have been on highlight reels... instead he just came in with speed and roofed it on a simple snap shot... still an excellent piece of scoring and I miss that type of Brouwer 😭💙💛

The Blues 4th line depth was really as good, maybe in some ways better, than 2019’s 4th line. There was a more veteran presence on the 4th line. The biggest outlier to me in 2016 vs 2019 however was that the Blues played 2 HEAVY series against Chicago, and Dallas. The Blues outhit in the first round & pounded Chicago. In 2019, they let the Jets be more physical. Dallas series was a wash physically. Both teams really went at each other hard. At the latter run, the core of this Blues team understood it was a marathon, not a sprint. They didn’t mind being out hit in the first two rounds. Come 3rd round against San Jose in 2016, they were out of gas, and were outhit and pounded by the Sharks. They were tired. In 2019, that Blues team, especially in games 4-6, POUNDED San Jose. The roles were reversed. Brian Elliott did get pulled, Allen replaced him, and so on. As good as Jordan Binnington was for the Blues, to me in 2016 the problem was never goaltending. Binnington in 2019 let in 4+ goals a number of times in the playoffs. Between Elliott & Allen that happened less. The 2016 team had engine failure past a certain point; they were not used to how you needed to be physical in the latter stages in the postseason vs the early stages. At the end of the day, 2016 team may have been more talented, however only 1 player (Troy Brouwer) knew what it took to go deep & win a cup, amongst a group who had mostly never been past the 1st round. 2019 team, from past seasons, knew it was a marathon, & played demanding, defensive hockey with offense of forechecking & puck possession that focused on quality vs quantity on chances. A team that wouldn’t get much offensive chances but capitalized when they did.
