Everytime I hear "Squash can't be a tv sport" I think about these times, where you couldn't see the ball at all. Now it's all different, and it's a shame that such a beautiful sport can't be in the olympics
@harryparkes4609

I think that this match highlights one of the reasons that squash has had difficulties getting into the Olympics, and that is arguing and showing disent to the referee. The players too easily were given lets if they complained enough! Now things are different - players are expected to take the correct line to the ball, allow their opponent direct access, play through minimal interference, and dissent is met with Rule 15 (Conduct). Unfortunately the Olympic committees dont seem to have followed the progress that has been made.

@@harryparkes4609 If dissent disqualified sports from the olympics, we wouldn't be having Soccer, Hockey, Badminton, Rugby, Basketball, the list goes on. Dissent isn't even remotely related to the problem, it pretty much comes down to the fact that the sport isn't popular.

No love lost between some of the players back in the 90s and early to mid 2000s. Power, Ricketts, Hill and a host of others could all bring the mongrel on to the court. Some of the games certainly had some feeling to them. The rivalries seem a lot more genteel these days. I reckon the quality of the games is probably better overall nowadays though. And the quality of reffing, with it's impact on improving how the game is played, is light years ahead. Would never want to see a return to the fishing expeditions that Jansher treated us to in this match.

This was basically at the end of his career so I wouldn't call him a "cheat" just because of his final years. He had to change his style and make it more about breaking the opponent's rhythm, catching young players with such experienced and, admittedly, 'dirty' play. No. He’s past his best here and is taking liberties. His movement around the court wasn’t as fluid and quick so he “chances his arm” a good deal. He’s a different personality to Jahangir who is a little shy and reserved and probably a better ambassador for the game. Jansher’s English in the early days wasn’t that good and he often appeared surly. I was always a Jahangir fan and he went unbeaten for 5.5 plus years. When Jansher appeared he dominated the game to a similar extent when the game arguably had more depth. The top 10 being better. He was world and junior champion at 18. He destroyed players at his best. Peter Nicol and a host of other top players view him as the GOAT. One particular year in the Super Series of events. He won all 6 events dropping one set and the longest match in a final was 42 minutes. I saw him beat Adrian Davies (Wales) 27-0 9/0 9/0 9/0. Davies was 18 in the world or so at the time.
