Throwing Drill for 3-4 year old baseball/softball players

Hello, I wanted to share a throwing drill I use to teach beginners how to throw a baseball or softball. The first part of the drill teaches them how to properly throw with out the hassle of chasing baseballs. The second part uses a ball with the same key words to get them throwing properly. I hope you like and you can use it as well.

You have the best fundamental drills for young kids I've found on youtube. I and a few other coaches have to manage 40 4 year olds every saturday for the next 6 weeks or so. Definitely using all your drills. Thanks.

Great job dad. I was told don’t even worry trying to get 4 year olds to throw. Our team was the only one at opening day throwing to 1st. But this is next level training! Kids are capable we just have to have higher expectations for them

This guy is an amazing coach, I used this teach my Daughter and now my son and I've been using every year for the past 3‐4 seasons as an assistant coach on my kiddos teams...currently 9U Girls Softball. I'll take the kiddos that are behind use and use this drill teach/correct the girls who where never really coached how to throw...I use it to break it back down to the basics and then start building them back up with good form, pinching shoulder blades together ect... Makes me feel good taking them from feeling like they don't belong to being able to hold there own...I'll pull them aside and say I promise you, if you'll try hard by the end of this you'll be able to catch and throw with anyone on this team..and they always have to this point.

This is freakin genius man. Trying to teach my 4 year old twins to throw and they loose it on the release, this might be a good drill to work with them on

Great video. Did this with my 5 & 7 year old. This drill dramatically help them with there throwing form. "Airplane, step, throw"!

@@mr.sportscoach6965 I had one t-ball player that kept throwing sideways, as in slinging his arm out to the side. The T-time drill got him using the right motions, and then we put a ball in his hand and he threw it correctly for the first time all season!

Your the first to mention that. Leo hits left but throws right. He has always felt better doing that. I tried making him throw with his left but he didn’t feel comfortable. Glad you like the video. Hopefully the drills help your child or team

Do you have any suggestion about the size of gloves that 4 years old kids can use? I am using a 8 inch glove for my 4 years old kid. But it seems difficult for him to close the glove when catching the ball.

At that age I suggest using the trap method since it’s very difficult for them to close. Check out my other video on catching. We practice that all the time because 3 and 4 year olds hands are so small.

How long of a shirt do I need.

Long enough so that they don’t hit their hands. I usually use the whole shirt and I just make a knot. The ones on the video I cut some shirts up from the waste area and put a knot at one end.

@@danielstride2276 it depends on what type of league your grandson is in. Some things don’t need to be taught. For sure like you said pitch count and pitchers. Some leagues have the drop third strike rule like softball. Some can steal when they get in kid pitch and others can not. What baseball organization do they run where you are at?

Yes I bought mine at academy in the basketball section. You can purchase any you like and any color you like. Amazon does have them. I use 9” spots.
