I am always amazed by this song. Kristin was so young when she wrote this, and the experience of what she went through is obviously deep and profound. She still needs to sing this song today, and it is still so powerful to the listener, and painful when you know why. It imprints itself upon your very being. It feels like electrical current in my soul everytime I hear it. No wonder so many feel like they were saved by this band. This woman. She probably really saved people from 'shock therapy'.

Brilliant comment; I totally agree. The part in "And a She-Wolf After the War" where her voice goes super high gives me instant goosebumps, and for years I'd also suddenly burst into tears, which was bizarre and totally unexpected. I hadn't been sad. The other time she does that to me is during "Vicky's Box": the "think I'll be all right?", "Welcome hommmmmmmme!" I sure feel that she has saved me over the past 25 years I've been listening to her.

Opening act was the Pixies, two months after Surfrt Rosa came out. This band got huge in London, yet in Providence and Boston in '88 we were still watching them in The Living Room and other small clubs. Seriously one of the most underrated bands of that era.

Absolutely outstanding track. How that was even written is beyond my comprehension!

If I could take drum lessons from any celebrity drummer of my choice, it would either be Narcizo or Stewart Copeland.

i wish Tanya Donelly, could have stayed on. She flew background fillins - always riding the melody of Kristens and then she could ride solos all around the melodies (not many band do this at that time.), she was a true lead guitarists contributions.

It's like- this song, Bea and Dragonhead are the songs that justify Hunkpapa's existence. I got Kristin good at a show once. She was doing an intro to her next song, saying she didn't understand why people kept asking her to play it all the time, and that she didn't relate to it anymore (turns out she was talking about "The Letter" -awesome song) I couldn't help it, I yelled out "Dizzy", and you should have seen the look of horror and disgust that came across her face!

Pfffft. Justify a band's existence. Whatever. Nothing has to be justified.

This song is like if Led Zeppelin were Gen xers, started a ost punk band, were women except for Dave who let's be real is our answer to Bonham, and had some mental health things to work through. Imo this song is every bit as epic as anything zep turned out. What a performance!

Because it's dead boring after their debut? This song and "Dizzy" are the only ones I'd save.

I love Hunkpapa! Wore out the cassette tape in high school/1989. It was my first exposure to them & glad to have it on vinyl.

No Morrissey for me either thank you. I would say Kristin, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Richard Thompson, Neil Peart. Just some of my storyteller in song people. They have something to say and an opinion that you can agree or disagreee with. They are all ok either way. I love that! Maybe also Robert Smith, Diamanda Galás, Blixa Bargeld, Scott Walker.

@MckyMseNTarotCrds I don't rate either Bob Dylan or Morrissey but to each his own. I'd say Lou Reed, David Byrne and Kristen.
