I am a fledgling potter and really enjoy your videos. I have been working/struggling with vases and think I learned something that I have been doing wrong watching this video. Thanks for your help!

Good to see you back! Wish I could make it to the show in Charlotte but will perhaps plan for next year!

Love this video. I would really love if you did or already have a video on tips for throwing with less water! I've been trying to go bigger from smaller pots but have had a few collapse because of too much water 💦

Glad your back I like the commentary. Would love if you say give a rough estimate on how tall they are etc. but hope the show is well.

I love watching your videos and hearing you explain what you are doing. I have a question: coullld you please tell about how tall you pull your cylinders for the 1.5lb vases before you begin shaping them? Thank you, Stephanie

Do you use a metal rib or wooden rib or rubber

Are these vases made from 1lb clay? There is an article in the September issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine that includes mini vases in bright colors so your vases are right on trend. You should check it out. I have been able to recreate all of them except one, which has a double bulbous form. I can't get it right but I suspect that I'm using too much water. If you get a chance to read the article, could you demonstrate how to make that kind of vase? Thanks, Matthew!

Right at the beginning of the video he said they are a pound and a half. I'd like to know how tall he gets those vases with that amount.
@melanies7343 жыл бұрын
@@321ReadysSetG0 Thank you. I must have missed that part. I would venture a guess that they're between 8" and 10" tall but I would probably be wrong. 😊

Melanie S I thought about that height too. 👍🏼

Brilliant, as always. How do you trim the bases, though, please? Do you use a chuck?
@MatthewKellyPottery3 жыл бұрын
I don’t trim them. My goal is to throw them how I want them to look finished and not need to trim them.

So fast centering. Wow. It's the most important thing, I think

be careful because covid is bad right now in NC. You should ask Josiah to clean your wheel "every day": LOL Love the skinny neck bottles

Nice to see your return to the wheel Matt. It's been a while, I hope your shoulder and wrist are ok now. By the way, I enjoyed the "kids cooking challenge", very entertaining :).

yes air bubbles! aren't they annoying? I 've had freshly wedged clay [very well] and sometimes still find an air bubble! can't fathom it out really. By the way Matt, unlike your latest video [Feb 2022] the wheel noise does not block out your voice as it does in the latest video. I don't what you did different!!>>???

A shame all the pulling view is covered by the vase. 🙂
@JanetRajek8 ай бұрын
Kind of fun to watch, but can’t see what you’re doing. Your hands are either in the way or the shaping of the vase is done on the other side so you can’t really see what’s happening 😢
