I don’t have any helpful advice, just that you are awesome and I am so proud a fellow Aussie woman is doing this! Safe travels in the jungle. Cant wait for your next drop.

I use a full size blow up mattress and a tyvek sheet underneath to protect the mattress/tent . I spend a bit not a lot of time cleaning under the tent. The tyvek sheet is in an outside pocket and I also use to sit/lie on during the day at rest stops. Sleep is important though, do what helps you sleep.

I love your channel and your journey! I might suggest an 1/8 inch foam mat instead of the larger nemo mat, I have one from gossamer gear, but lots of other companies make it. Or as another has suggested a tyvek sheet. Good luck on your journey 😊

I have this too. But I didn’t get mine from GG. Although my pack is GG (Mariposa) and I use the folded mat as the back pad for the pack. I got mine from an Aussie foam store and cut it to my preferred size. I also used bits of that same 3mm foam to make custom pouches for my nitecore battery pack and my wall plug so the sharp corners don’t puncture the DCF bag I keep them in.

Love your work Lucy. The good thing about the foam mat is that it isn't just a one use item - as you said it is good for sitting on during breaks during the day as well as protection for your inflatable. mat. And you know how important a good sleep is! Funny thing about this video - no tail and no tangles! hahaha...

You could always carry a small bit of repair tape and go with the small "sit" version of the foam pad for breaks. Could also trial not having it and ship that piece of equipment ahead of you so you aren't totally committed to "losing it". Also, try a couple days of shifting the heavier things (food and electronics) in your pack to centre/closer to your body (lighter items in the bottom and outer centre like clothes and sleep pad) and see how it carries. As long as you are using a pack liner moisture shouldn't be an issue. The arc in the pack makes it difficult to follow that principle (of keeping heavy items close and centre of back) but its worth trying just to feel the difference. Your pack is so light it may be nominal but hey why not try it :) inspired by your awesome goal. Safe and happy trails ✌️

Gossamer gear or mountain laurel designs 1/8 inch foam pad(90g) paired with thermarest Neoair xlite(348g) gives you a total of 438g. The foam helps to protect the air pad and gives you some versatility to use the foam as a sit pad or a standalone. When it’s hot, I’m not sure any pad helps. You may have the comfort, but they just heat up too much between your body and the pad. The only thing that I’ve ever found that worked was a cotton towel that I would wet down and lay on naked. A hammock comes to mind, but I have no expertise in that area. I came across you on Facebook through a Zpacks post. Very impressive. Not sure of your support system you have in place but if needed I can round up the pads I spoke of. That neoair also comes in a torso length. Let me know. My best to you.

This is awesome!! I’m actually about to ditch the pad and try using a car screen reflector that was suggested by another follower. It’ll double as shade during the day (very appealing)… or a sit pad. My mat weighs the same, it’s a sea to summit ultralight XS. Failing that I’ll hit you up! The real issue with resupply and swapping out gear, is getting it to me. So I’m pretty much dependent on waiting for volunteer travellers to donate space in their luggage!

@@LucyBarnard I’m leaving for a pct sobo in June but will gladly be available until then. I take for granted the infrastructure here. That is a tough obstacle. I will think on it. Are you an ambassador for zpacks? Sea to summit? Thinking they could help with logistics. Again my best.

@@DavidJonesWalksFar they’re really helpful with getting equipment to the people travelling, but postage hasn’t been a good option for me. So again, I’m waiting on hearing about people travelling to me. It works. There’s always someone coming. I just need to know when.

I was hoping to see wombat. Can you do a vid update on what goes into wombat's pack. If you have an address in Central America to which I can send your needed supplies to, please let me know and I would be happy to arrange what is needed and send them off to you. I would be very hesitant myself dropping the foam mate. All you need is for your inflatable mattress to get a puncture in it while you are in the jungle and then you are going to have a very hard time sleeping. Have you considered those mats that roll up? Would that be able to go into your bag and then you wouldn't look like a tourist. Have you considered the idea of carrying a smaller pack on the front of you and put the essential things in it like your water, medicine, filter, etc. That would reduce the weight on your bak - just an idea. Great vid. How come you left Wombat behind?

Loving watching yours and Wombats journey Lucy 🩵 So do you sleep in your hiking clothes? And is that 10kg without food and water? I seem to continually be around the 16kg mark and idk what I have that’s extra! Other than a sleeping bag 😂
