Hey All! I just want to make sure I'm clear here as I have been using the wheel more. For someone looking to buy a new wheel and get into sim racing, the T598 will be 100% my recommendation. What you get for the price beats anything else near it for console at $500 usd. With the T-GT II being $800 usd for the complete set, the T598 is definitely the better buy here. For those who already own the T-GT II, that wheel holds its own. It's strong, it offers good detail and has the transducer, which works great in GT7. The two wheels feel completely different from each other. The T598 is smoother with finer details, while the T-GT II offers a stronger feeling to the wheel. The T598 takes a little getting used to coming from a T-GT II. If you want direct drive, I don't think you will be disappointed with the T598, and it also won't break the bank. If you are happy with your T-GT II, I don't think you need to rush out and buy the T598. Your first thought might be it feels a little weak but you need to give it some time to adapt to the different feeling. It's just my opinion and I don't claim to be right or wrong. I respect what everyone else says here as well! Also want to add, while the wheel rim is made of a lot of plastic, it actually feels good in hand when racing, and the size is just right too.

Hey great review , i am fully in the TM eco system and have been using the TGT2 for a couple of years now but was ready to just jump right in on the 598 but i think i will wait for now until it is available as a base only as i have the EVO32r which is a nice wheel i might add (nowhere near the flex that is being "reported in some reviews), the new pedals look a lot better than the TCLM but again i will hold off until the load cell is an option on those. Good to see an honest and fair review and also someone who is using the TM stuff ..nice one and a new sub here😎

So far loving the T598. Yesterday did the daily race 3 and while doing laps did better than controller. I had a T248 which tbh lacked smoothness. I preferred the T150 to the T248. The T598 was smooth and consistent. Seen other reviews where the wheel was loud but this thing is silent, even the paddles are mildly quiet. Love it

The moment I heard TM announced this wheel I knew I am going to buy it. DD wheels for PS are so hard to acquire where I live. Fanatec does not sell here, Logitech G Pro is too expensive, Moza is PC only, and the next closest and readily available wheel for PS here is T-GT II and that is also expensive.

For years I used a T300RS and quite liked it - until I started getting really bad FFB fade on longer sessions. The wheel base would overheat and the belt drive system would basically give up. I upgraded to the Fanatec GT DD Pro (5 NM) bundle, and immediately noticed the same "lightness" you described when going from the T-GT II to the T598. It seems that the lack of gears/belt/mechanical junk on the shaft of a DD wheel gives it an entirely different texture that can take some serious getting used to. I found that by tweaking settings in GT7 and ACC I was able to find a find a happy medium on the DD that allowed me to simulate weight transfer and tire load like I used to feel on the T300RS.

Just got a t598 and only problem coming from T-GT II was how tall this is. Doesn't work where the T-GT II was at all. Had to resort to max seat height and a cargo van type position just to test it out. Will be getting a rig now. Would like to point out that being able to adjust dampening, spring, speed, force, and other things from the base is a huge plus for ps5 users. Being able to fine tune these settings instead of just dealing with gt7's is a game changer and my only complaint with T-GT II. Really looking forward to getting a rig so I can finally find a comfortable sitting position.

Great review man, appreciate your honesty, especially being a TGTII user as well. When they first announced the T598 I was impressed that was only 5NM I thought I was going to be at least 8NM just higher than the actual TGT. I see others reviewers testing the T598 only on GT7 I would love to see other games in action definitely console games. Like AC F1 games project cars etc. It would interesting to see how the new base performance with other titles. In the other hand I have a feeling TM is going to release a pro version or something with more torque for console users at least 8Nm will be ideal. Thank you for doing this, looking forward to your coming up reviews. ✌🏽

For example the Bugatti everyone is using in this week's Daily B race. You can tell you are driving a big heavy car. I'm guessing that I'll be happy with the constant 5 Nm, and the peak 10Nm.

If your wheel is too light increase damper settings on the wheel. Fanatec also has inertia settings, but I am not sure if Thrustmaster has it. But I am pretty sure you can get it to feel the way you need it through software.

There is a damper setting in the wheel base. I will play with that and see if it improves the feeling of the lightness. Thanks.

@@thecasualracinggamer Just FYI, on Fanatec there are 3 settings that are completely from the wheel itself and applied on top of the effects that come from the wheel. Those are: Natural Damper, Natural Friction(might be a better option to solve your problem), Natural Inertia. By using these 3 you can make the wheel feel heavy even w/o any inputs from the game. So, even if the damper doesn't work, there might be something else.

I pulled the trigger on this after having my T300 for a few years. After a short adjustment period, well worth the low cost intro to DD or should I say DAD? First noticed improvement in corner precision and tight chicanes. I too already have the TLCM so won’t bother with the new pedals now, maybe later once they have the LC upgrade. Still figuring out the settings, although I put the FFB at preset level one on a Gr1 car in Gt7, when I got to top speed the wheel shook violently, had to turn that down 😂 Good review

Nice Cas, well done.. i love my t-gtii. Only thing my gut feeling is direct drive is more accurate, so in theory this should make you more consistent.. a one off lap the tgtii is as quick as anything, I've just always felt I'm replicating the same lap but have to make tiny adjustments. You'll only no this after doing some qualifications i reckon.. this is £450 uk so base only I'm guessing will be around £350.. that is a head turner if its more accurate 🤔

As a casual racer, the difference in accuracy probably has less effect on me than someone trying to compete in top splits with top times. I will probably gain more time and consistency with better throttle and brake control over a better wheel. Having said that, at the price, the T598 offers a great option for console players who want to jump to DD. The more I play with it, the more I like it.

Maybe PS support chip/license is a significant fraction of the cost. Anyways, it is good to have a new product on the market for competition. After all, it is the thing making old players on the field move and stop selling us the same stuff (looking at you, gear/belt drives) for ages. Hope this axial drive also gives a little shake up to the current offer.

I dont enjoy the feeling. It doesnt remond me of a dd and doesnt have seprration between the feedback. Its a fluid feel yes but it doesnt have those momnetw where you really get that weight with tire feel it doesnt have the suspension feel. I dont like this dd design at all. Its weird ive felt 5nm dd wheels you still feel the weight and the tires and you feel all of the mids you cant here its just one fluid motion without seperation and i dont get it because dd wheels dont feel this way and they have much more granualar fetail with much better weight and stopping power you shoudl feel the seperation between each feeling it shouldnt be the same feeling everywhere. I dont believe this is an uogrqde at all rven over the tgt2 because its not telling you the things you need to know. Ive never felt a dd like this and i dont think its the future at all. It was thrustmaster finding a way to make a cheaper motor and using a sales pitch on its smoothness thats it. I love my dd wheels and this was a horrivle experience for me when comparing to other dd and rven a wheelbase like the cswv2 5 or tgt2.

The T-GT II is a nice step up from the T300, much more than slightly better. My comparison isn't to say people should go out and buy a T-GT II today, it's to say that for those who already own it, it's still a great wheel, with great force and details. Just because something uses older tech doesn't mean it's bad.

First, I appreciate your comments, by the way. Second, I never said in this video that people should buy the T-GT II over the T598. What I said was that for those who own the T-GT II, it's still a great wheel, and they shouldn't feel the need to run and replace it. I think the T-GT II feels above its class as a belt driven wheel. Of course DD can deliver quicker responses being directly connected. If someone is running out to purchase a wheel today for the first time, 100% I would recommend the T598.
