Has there been any interference with the electronics as a result of this mod? I'm thinking a slightly smaller magnet could do the job, and possibly reduce the risk of interference.

Hi Carlos, I am a quadriplegic with use of my arms but not fingers. I have ordered the wheel and will modify it with a knob so I can drive one handed. I'm going to modify the pedals so I can use my left hand for gas and brake. Do you have any ideas on how I might hijack the shift paddles so I could shift by hitting switches with the elbow of my gas/brake arm? How might you create a set of switches that do the work of the paddles? Thanks.
Hello. I was having problems with the shift up paddle. I came across your video and decided to open up the wheel. I found, in both paddles, the plastic parts the are closer to the paddle were broken. I just glue them. And, it happens I had a couple of magnets from a project my kid did some years ago, which are the right size for the mod you made. I did it. It is very good. Thank you for sharing.
@vati7024 жыл бұрын
Did the gluing work? I have just opened up my wheel and the right paddle has the plastic support broken..... Other than gluing do you think we can find it as a spare part? I am almost desperate I can't stay without my T300 RS and I don't want to change my wheel just for a stupid piece of plastic.
@rnp98764 жыл бұрын
@@vati702 I do not play too much, but so far it is working. You can glue the piece itself or you can glue it to the metal paddle. But if you want to replace it later, it will be a little difficult to de-glue it from the paddle. And I believe it won't hurt to ask Thrustmaster.
@vati7024 жыл бұрын
@@rnp9876 thanks for your reply.. I have already emailed them and let's wait for their answer. I just glued the plastic itself... I guess that in the worst scenario I would have to buy a second hand wheel (the wheel only) even a broken one (for other reasons other than mine obviously)... but I have no idea where to seek for such items..

@@vati702 I know it's been awhile since you posted about those replacement plastic hinge pieces so not sure if you actually still need them or not, but somebody does make reinforced replacements for those hinges. I can't remember the name of the company, but they're sold on AliExpress so if you search the thrustmaster stuff you should eventually come across it.

I just did it to my T300 rim and it definitely improves the feeling however my magnets feel a bit weak compared to the springs. Is that what you copped carlos?
@anon-san28305 жыл бұрын
This is TOTALLY worth it! If you are looking for the exact magnets. Here is what I used after trying so many of them. Basically you are looking for 30lb force on each side (because you are using it from outside the casing). It's not too much trust me. This works for Formula style rim as well. Just a additional wire inside to watch out for. 10lb pull each. Three on each side. Hi, I have a doubt. Why do you need to take the springs off? Wouldn't they just add extra strength? Sorry for my ignorance and Thanks

I have the Ferrari 599xx and the plastic housing make a snapping sound when I flex the wheel so I tightened the screws and most of it went away I want to tighten more my question is is there a chance of over tightening and stripping the bolts on the wheel ?
@Daz555Daz4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you overtighten anything there is a risk of damage.

I had my wheel replaced because of the paddle shifters. They lost the tactical click almost out of the box. Used the wheel for 5 minutes. Now my new replacement does the same, also out of the box. Did you have this problem, or was it over time the tactical click went away?
@HyAcey6 жыл бұрын
I got the exact same thing but only on my right paddle my left one is fine dunno why.
@Z3NGV6 жыл бұрын
HyAcey i can tell you that my 3rd set had this issue as well... the problem is the design (relay switch and the springs - jumping around when driving) i opened the wheel (3 allen screws in front: 10, 2 & 6 o’clock - and the 6 on the backside) i used some sports-tape to keep the springs in place... hard to explain, but i cut the tape so it doesnt touch the relay switch, but the metal piece, and the 2 last “rings” on the spring... it’s been working fine so far
@HyAcey6 жыл бұрын
So you basicly just tape the spring in place? while not covering the switch nor spring fully? Might give that a try aswell.
@Z3NGV6 жыл бұрын
HyAcey yep, because if you cover the springs fully, it won’t work properly, and you won’t get that tactical click. I used tape, because it’s easy to remove again (use sports tape or bandage tape. It’s strong and won’t interfere with electronics, like this magnet mod would do) Just in case i need to send it in for a repair or replacement. I’ve seen people use different stuff to “fix” the springs. F.e by putting a piece of cloth inside the spring, but again, you lose the tactical click. Use an utility knife to cut and shape the tape :) make a little cut on the tape (around the springs when you attach the tape) doing this, the springs won’t feel stiff, because of the tape.. Hope you understand the process.

These are huge magnets compared to the ones that are offered by manufacturers. I'd love to have these but my monitors are literally right above my steering wheel. I don't think my monitors would like a magnet next to them. 😔

So I have just done this after months of postponing it. I did it on the T300 GT rim, which differs slightly in the design of the button box, and there's one more screw to remove during disassembly. First impression after putting the rim back together was it's not as big of a difference as I might've expected, but when I put the rim back on the base, tightened everything and actually used the wheel, it felt noticeably better. The shifters are a bit lighter now (possibly my magnets are weaker?), but there's a very nice positive feeling of clicking the shifter while before it was a bit...well, spongy. The only issues I had was that after disassembling the spring compartments, I have found both of my paddle shifter "hinges" were broken from use I guess (without me even realizing - then again they might have even be broken right from the start, it's a pretty bad design from TM there), so I had to get creative with glue, but it seems it will hold. I mean it did hold up until now for who know how many hours, so I assume it will only be better now (fingers crossed). And the second thing is a fifth, smaller spring fell out of somewhere without me noticing and I just haven't been able to figure out where it belongs - there doesn't seem to be a spring missing anywhere and everything works. So... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ :D Thanks for the guide and mod, much appreciated!
@c4rLo5d5 жыл бұрын
I think the 5th smaller spring goes on the front of the PCB between the metal wheel rim and PCB to create a Ground/Earth connection.
@Case_5 жыл бұрын
@@c4rLo5d Ah, that might be it. I'll have a look, though it's all working fine ATM ;)

No, it is not essential. Although it will not feel as snappy as when they are removed.

@c4rLo5d6 жыл бұрын

@@c4rLo5d What if you also removed the springs on the switch? Why did you leave those?
@Daz555Daz4 жыл бұрын
@@Feintgames Without the springs on the switches the paddles will not reach them to make contact. The springs also help protect the switches from being pressed to hard during shifting.
