Just a thought. Go back to that construction site bins and collect all that insulation they are throwing away and insulate your garage where you make your videos. Then when you’re done with the insulation go back and collect all the sheets of plywood and sheet the inside of your garage. Then if you’re really crazy find some paint and make your space really nice. Your viewers might like to see that you made a nice space just from scraping. Just thinking

Could use the insulation, assorted pieces of plywood for lining a shed for a cats' habitat. All the scrap wood for a nice wood stove, too. Suppose all that styrofoam would also be good for insulation and moisture barrier. Love seeing the beauty of clean snow--but don't relish driving in it! Time to weigh down the back of the pickup. Happy, fruitful and safe holidays to you and your family and friends. You're having way too much fun with the log splitter.😊

Thub. I really hope you see this but in my experience here’s a few tips I have for trash picking the new construction job sites for wire and aluminum. This is actually my main source of income but in my area the amount of development is exploding. There are two stages of building a house that I look for aluminum, and two stages for wire. This applies to residential builds of all sizes. The first potential wire score is the biggest, but also the most infrequent. This occurs after the roofers are gone, and typically before the siding gets put on. The houses will typically not have a garage door yet so you will be able to see the new breaker panel, usually not filled with breakers and a whole bunch of wires hanging out above it. Then once the siding is done, you can score their aluminum soffit scraps. Typically you want to see a bunch of it immediately for it to be worth your time. Then when the finish electric work is done (this is when they install light fixtures, outlets, switches) the electricians are much less likely to care about this scrap because it’s difficult to keep the good bits separate from the empty bits and it will all be short pieces. Luckily, they’ll typically fill up a box or two of all their trash and it will be in the bin, most likely the closest side to the house ;) look for the good rolls of blue Ethernet around this time. Almost no electricians are scrapping that stuff. Then when the deck and interior railings are done, you can scavenge those extruded bits you’re so fond of. As a caveat, around the time the framing is done, it’s not uncommon to find a cut 100’ extension cord on top. Almost always the last thing to throw away. The framers think they will fix it, but then they get paid so they think they’re rich enough to just purchase a new one. These are my tips.
@MrSubliminalStudios2 күн бұрын
In my peak scavenging times. I average around 1,000 dollars a week putting in about 50 hours. 20 usd is alright in my area, and it isn’t like they tax scrap income, so it works out better than you’d think.
@jebedaКүн бұрын
@@MrSubliminalStudios To be fair, they DO tax scrap income, just like any other income. Many people don't report it, and like a lot of self-employed or small business income, it is hard for the authorities to find and prove this type of tax fraud, but it does happen. If people do report this type of income, they should also record and report their expenses (vehicle expenses, tool expenses, use of home expenses, etc) A lot of time tracking the expenses as well as the income shows that many businesses are not as profitable as they seem when only looking at the income side of things.

Order of operations on a build: once framing is done, roof is on, sometimes windows/doors then plumbing/electric/HVAC start. Once they're done; insulation, vapour barrier, drywall, paint and trim, flooring. Happy new years, Thub!! @@thubprintI’m in Calgary too . These developers are building cheap ugly housing ! Period …
@MattsAwesomeStuff2 күн бұрын
Generally, plumbing before electric, because plumbing has to go where it has to go. Water doesn't drain uphill, so its routing has to be prioritized. HVAC has a little more leeway, but is such a space hog that it has to be mutually accommodating with drainage. But it might not actually go in, just, routing claimed. Electrical can run circles around it all, so, it'll go last if there's a choice. But in new housing, the trades have worked on so many identical copies of each house they'll be 5x as fast as someone new to those plans, so, you could shove electrical in first since, 50 houses in they're all reading each other's minds.

When they do foundations sometimes theres extra rebar - then you gotta wait until framing and roofing and siding is over then comes most electrical and plumbing but after drywall and towards the finish stage you got finished electrical and finished plumbing might be more goodies then too. Also these builders hire folks to do cleanup etc, might be worth a phone call to see if they can tell you when to come get metal they might even pay you to get rid of some of it

After the framing of the house comes the outer skin (plywood) , then on the inside you get plumbing and electric.... THEN insulation, THEN drywall..... oh I forgot windows go in before insulation.... so MOST of the houses you see are DONE with pluming and electric :( BUT with ROOFINGH there is the FLASHING, which is ALWAYS METAL - steel to be clear (lots of people think it's TION, but that stuff is WAY TOO SOFT) - Oh yea, SIDING CAN BE METAL TOO So once these bins are emptied, I would think that's it! :(

If I understand correctly the dumpsters are put out by the builders who the have to pay to have it sorted/sent to landfill. So if Thub takes some it’s better for them - less weight/volume to pay. In my area it’s the opposite, builders/people hire a dumpster from the scrapyard, and anything put in is property of the scrapyard.
