Thule RoundTrip Transition Bike Case Review

I recently had the opportunity to fly with my bikes and try out these new Thule RoundTrip Transition Bike Cases. I rate these cases 4-4.5/5 Stars. Here is why.
To purchase one of these bike cases, something similar, or for any other Thule, Kuat rack, or any bicycle needs, Find a local bike shop, and don't go to Green Mountain Cyclery like I said in the video. I love most of the staff that I got to work with but the owner is an ass clown.

Dude, Thanks for sharing your review, experience and thoughts. I am developing my own custom carbon hard case and have one of these here as a starting point to launch my design thinking off of. That roof rack suggesting and lower space comments are pure gold.

Question. Was it that 2 bike cases wouldn't fit in the Prius? Would 1?

I dont have a Prius anymore, but i honestly think i could fit one laid down in it i can not remember.

can you fit a boost fork 15x110 into that stand or does an adapter need to be bought separately ? Thanks

i made a jerry rig spacer set. (head tube spacers and zip ties) haha but yeah you need an adapter of some sort. not sure if they sell one or not.

Thanks for sharing the info. I’m in deep debate between this and Evoc Travel Bag Pro. And I’m in U.S and got a race coming up in Colorado soon. Have you consider Evoc before ended up with Thule ? And I can’t believe you got the derailleur hanger bent in the case cuz the case had so much width that gives an extra room between the bike frame and the case.

So most airlines don't include the same insurance for a soft case vs a hard case, so that's one thing to consider. at least for southwest, hard case is free insurance up to $10k value. soft case you have to pay $100 for that same insurance on your bike. also i have many carbon frames, so the hard case was just an easy sell to me, made more sense. I think this case is just more user friendly and a better overall protection system. the issue was not the width with the derailleur hanger, it was actually the overall length. in order to fit my frame in i have to remove the derailleur from the hanger and the hanger actually pokes into/rests on the inside of the box. the best advice i would give to thule to combat this would be to allow the forks to move up and touch the front, because that would be less harmful in the long run. unfortunately they can't make it bigger, per airline regulations, so as bike frames and geometries change i guess they somewhat have their hands tied.

is that a remedy or. slash trying to find out if I should buy this for my trip to NZ i have a remedy and not sure if it will fit without pulling my fork off???

I have slashes. I sold my remedy recently. I prefer the 29er life now.. haha

yeah im 5'9 ish. but i ride a set up for someone 6'1. i feel way faster when im stretched out.

So remove the derailleur before hand if using this case? Is the case lockable?

I did remove the derailleur. However I left the Derailleur hanger on to protect the frame from damage. I would rather replace the hanger than the rear triangle. The case is lockable however you can not fly in america with locks on any luggage.

If it's inside a cage to keep it from sliding probably great.

Do you think a XL frame kona process would fit if I removed the detailer and hanger?

I would contact thule. I want to say no, but its possible. In the original product description it says it fits up to an XL mtb frame, but based off of how mine fit... i would be worried about the frame getting damaged even if you got it in.

Hi, I have a question , will they fit a 27.5 inch bike and Fat Bike?

27.5 and 27.5+ for sure. Im not 100% sure on a fat bike. but i would assume so if you air down the tire. try calling thule!

Did you have to pay extra for overweight (over 50lb) with southwest airline? this box is 39lb right?

yes. these are always gonna be $50-$75 to fly with. regardless of weight, the size requires the upcharge.

As in inspecting the bike? Already done. Ran through a full service check, frame check, all in all everything is great, no adjustments need to be made, all parts are intact and working properly!
