These seats are both exceptional and functionally very similar. The rack mount version of both seats are the most different. The Yepp Maxi has a quick release bracket, while the Yepp Nexxt Maxi's does not. The Yepp Maxi's quick release bracket causes the seat to sit higher on the bike, which does affect the adult rider's balance more.

Great review! I bought the frame mount Thule yepp maxi (Didnt know there were two seperate kind of seats) without knowing that its not compatible with my carbon frame mountain bike. Long story short I Bought a new aluminum frame hardtail mountain bike, solely for the purpose for installing this seat. Now finding out, that on this 29" wheel mountain bike, bottom of the seat and tire barely has an inch space. So the frame mount seat is useless and need to get the THULE YEPP NEXT (Ligher with 48.5lb weight limit)with the rack mount. What kinda rack mount should i get for a mountain bike which is compatible?. Most of the rack mount I see has the disclaimer "not intended for child carrier", even tho the weight limit is compatible. Why couldnt THULE design, One seat which is compatible with rack and seat post. So annoying.

How old is your child? Racks are often not compatible with true mountain bikes. Have you confirmed your bike can take a rack? If you’ll child is 2 or older, you should consider an MTB child bike seat like the Mac Ride.

Not really. They are very similar. I would say if you are getting the rack mounted version that's the biggest difference. The Yepp requires an EasyFit adapter that increases the cost of the seat and also raises the center of gravity of the seat. It does, however, make taking the seat on and off your bike about 45 seconds easier.

@@Twowheelingtotsbikes I have a bicycle that is easyfit compatible. I believe both seats fit that with no adapter at all. According to Thule's site the difference between the two is that the nexxt has even more ventilation (streamlined design with bigger holes) + the inner lining is softer and it has some kind of magnetic help for closing the buckles. Seems like both are fine options.
