Love my Push MetaGrip…had for years and helping me avoid surgery, along with daily hand exercises taught to me by two phenomenal OT hand therapists. Thanks for the paraffin reminder…love that, too, but stopped because it’s time consuming, but I know it helps…will get that out of storage and start using again! Your presentation was excellent! I look forward to more instructional videos on your chanbel!

I guess I have hyper mobility of my left thumb. I used to rub the base of my thumb multiple times a day. I popped that thumb back into joint by trying to lift a tire from a snowblower with that hand. A huge “Pop” and it’s been ok for the last couple years. Thank God there’s no more pain. Thanks for your videos!

Oh this gives me so much hope. Is it continuing to feel better? I'm hyper mobile too, had my thumb sublux early during the pandemic and it's had problems ever since. I think I knocked it out worse a few months back, the pain was awful and my movement became very limited. I finally broke down and got an xray and an appointment with a surgeon for what appeared as a subluxed and arthritic joint. A week before seeing the surgeon I decided to play a video game with a friend, I couldn't press the thumbstick normally due to weakness and pain so I instead had to use my thumb tip at a 90 degree angle and kinda push with my whole hand strength, I slipped and the thumbstick moved inward, I heard a big pop and suddenly the pain was greatly reduced and I could move my thumb much better. So I think I popped it back in. It's been a bit sore when I move too quick for the last week but no where near as bad. I told the surgeon about how I think I got it back in but he seems insistent on me getting the joint fused after seeing the xray from weeks ago and dismissed all other options. I'm a musician, mainly guitar so I definitely don't want to lose my mobility to a fusion surgery, that would destroy my only passion in life completely. Very scary stuff, I'm getting a brace and hoping things will continue to improve. No more heavy lifting for me either as long as I can help it.

I'm on my 4th set of Push braces for CMC arthritis(one thumb surgically repaired with an Stablyx implant). My issue with them is the velcro wears out, quickly, even though the rest of the brace is fine. The other braces with a separate strapping system eventual have the same issue, but have replaceable strapping(extra included or separate purchase)

I watched this to learn about the Velpeau. I've used a Push MetaGrip for years, but now have to buy another because I lost mine. Paying almost $80 more for the Push is rather painful in itself, but I know it and trust it (are other companies making them because the Push patent ran out?). A disagreement with the advice on how often to wear it. Once my thumb is enflamed from stressing it, I need to wear the brace most all the time because I do so many common things that pull back on my thumb: opening doors, lifting heavy objects, grabbing and twisting most anything, etc. It's impossible to predict when I might stress the thumb joint again.

Thank you for making & posting this info. 💕🙏☮️ This looks promising. My fear is that I’m past the point of getting lots of relief from something like this- I may have to get CMC arthroplasty. Orthopedist pointed out my x-ray and I have bone on bone. I just can’t believe I need surgery at 53! Getting old sux.

Good to hear@@curiousj1287 I've got a referral in to a hand surgeon but my physiatrist said fusion was my only option (Ottawa Canada) I've seen KZbin videos and reference to a slightly different sx where a robust wrist tendon replaces the trapezium. X-Ray still shows joint space but I've got bone remodelling & the joint subluxes & grinds easily. I'm hypermobile & wish I'd known about these braces when my CMC started to ache years ago. I'm 60 now & hope to have lots of good years ahead.

How much does it affect the degree to which you can stretch your hand? E.g., for music - could you stretch as wide a span between thumb and pinky as without the brace? Or does the solid looking strap part not really stretch much? Maybe it can fit slightly lower so that it doesn't interfere with the part of the palm that needs to stretch to widen the hand? (I am looking for support for CMC joint hypermobility/instability, but also need to stretch wide as I have very small hands for a musician!)

What brace would you suggest for the second joint of my left thumb that I have jammed too many times and I think have pulled the outside tendons or ligaments or something and my thumb tends to turn inward toward my finger knuckles and have been looking for a brace to support my thumb but still be able to use the end of my thumb to grasp and small enough to wear gloves over, thank you in advance.

I see that the Velpeau comes with a sweat-absorbing thumb sleeve. I hadn't thought about how much I'd sweat under one of these hard braces until I saw that. I was looking for something to wear during pickle ball, so my hands will definitely be sweating. Has that been an issue with the MetaGrip?

What are you supposed to do if you have constant (CMC osteoarthritis) pain but don’t want surgery or pain management? I have a Push Metagrip, but it is terribly uncomfortable for where the plastic (?) is turned up between the thumb and forefinger.
@smangosbubbles10 ай бұрын
Months later, but try putting moleskin in there. Thin but provides enough cushion that it's not uncomfortable anymore. I avoided getting the brace wet and changed out the moleskin every couple weeks.

Thee are SO MANY negative reviews on Amazon about how the Velpeau CMC Thumb Brace falls apart after three weeks to two months of daily wear. They show many, many photos of the softer part separated from the harder plastic. I can’t afford or justify the high price of the Push MetaGrip so I was thinking of trying the other…but with sooo many people saying it falls apart I am leery of spending anything for it. I don’t need anymore junk to put in the landfill. What have you…or anyone out there…found as far as longevity of the more affordable device? And I do plan to use it for hand washing dishes with a limited amount of water exposure.Thank you.
@EquipMeOT Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, you tend to get what you pay for in these situations. The higher price of the MetaGrip definitely means better longevity (I've used mine for a few years with zero wear showing). The Velpeau and other similar low cost versions seem to wear out with daily use after about 2-3 months or non-regular use might give you closer to a year.

@@EquipMeOT Sorry to be such a bother but since I’ve got your attention..I am ready to give in and purchase the better device but I want to make absolutely sure it will help my issue. It’s for my left hand. Two years ago I had surgery on my right CMC joint…a tightrope cord was placed after removing the joint. It relieved my pain. The pain I am now experiencing in the left thumb feels similar but to be honest I am not altogether sure that some of the pain isn’t in the MP joint!?! I see that this brace doesn’t cover the MP joint at all as some other kinds of braces do. I have one of the basic cheap fabric sleeves that has a metal bar in it the length of half my thumb..which does cover the MP joint and brings some relief….so that is why I am now wavering. Ugh. I do not want to see my hand surgeon’s face..haha.. so I am not wanting to go ask him what he thinks…plus he would charge me for the visit and it is far from where I live. It’s difficult to know if I am on the right track and I know you can only give limited advice but maybe my questions will help other people as well. I appreciate your time and I am actually hoping you will say that by stabilizing the CMC joint it WILL also help relieve pressure or rubbing or straining of the MP joint as well and be worth purchasing and wearing. Thank you again. By the way, as if you couldn’t tell, I loved your video and have watched it many times and have subscribed to your channel.
@EquipMeOT Жыл бұрын
@@vestcoat I can't say for certain that immobilizing the CMC will improve the MP joint discomfort, but I can say, you can definitely try it. BraceLab also has a sport thumb brace that I really like that does block both CMC and MP and allows you to function.

Yes! I would combine any of these braces (depending on your need) with a built up handle for your crochet or knitting tools and that should significantly improve comfort.
