I have had 8 joule in service for about 20 years now. Also have a 20 joule for 15 years. They have worked great. They will push through a whole lot, amazing power. How does the Cyclops compare to the Gallagher in the non solar chargers? The gentleman that started it was in the repair business and decided he could do better than what was on the market at the time. He helped me repair a couple of mine over the phone, which is how I learned of them way back when.

Hi, thanks for the videos! What is your take on the Gallagher MBS 800? What would you recommend for the best multipower unit in 8+joules? Thanks again and many blessings!
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity4 жыл бұрын
Hi, any of the Gallagher units are really solid built. I had a guy buy a Gallagher MBS400 from us over fixing his Speedrite 3000 unit. He called me back about a week later and said thank you about 5 times and said it is putting out more voltage and had a harder snap on the fence. The MBS800 is basically the same unit, just stronger output. I've talked to stores we do repairs for and I'll ask them about the Gallagher stuff, since they sell a bunch more than I do I'm mostly repairs, and they said they haven't had any issues with their current units. I see some newer Gallagher units come in, and every time it's lightning related usually on the AC power cord side. I've never seen one come in with random electronic failures. Lightning hits any of them, no matter what companies do. If your want to buy one, let me know and I'll meet or beat the prices online and provide any warranty or non warranty repairs on it as well. Unless you want to buy from your local store, that's fine too.

There's not a lot of companies making multi powered units. Speedrite is another brand, but they're such overpriced junk inside and charge way too much for their stuff for what they are inside.
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity4 жыл бұрын
Another model you could look at on the Gallagher stuff is the Gallagher MB1000, it's a 12 joule unit, but it's not much more money than the MBS 800. The only thing with the MB1000 vs the MBS 800, it needs to be protected from the weather better like in a box or something if it's outside, and the MBS models are designed to be right out in the weather in the open. The MBS models can be mounted on a t-post or screwed onto a wood post pretty easy, but the MB1000 can't be mounted to a t-post, but could be mounted in a box and hung with screws.

@@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity I'd be happy to support your business over the big chains! Here's my situation, maybe you could suggest the best model. I currently have a 40 acre property with 24 acres of pasture with barbwire fencing. My plan is to add electrical fencing by adding a double strand of 12.5 gauge high tension galvanized wire hung on Timeless PVC tposts 8" inside the barbed wire for a total of 1.5 miles of wire. I'm also buying an adjoining property roughly the same size sometime later this year so it will double my fencing needs to about 3.2 miles. I primarily want to contain cattle and move them with temp paddocks using temporary polybraid lines and step in posts. I'm a big believer in the Tim Taylor philosophy of "more power" but I'm not sure if too much charger with too little fence is a problem. Btw, I am just now putting together my supply list so if you sell any other components, I'm interested. Once again, Thanks much!

What do they mean by 6 ground rods? They trying to say 6’ ground rod?
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity6 күн бұрын
No, they mean install a minimum of (6) ground rods. Drive them in as deep as you can spaced 10' a part, and daisy chain together with leftover electric fence wire and good galvanized ground rod clamps, using galvanized ground rods as well. The larger a joule rated a unit is the more crucial the ground system becomes no matter the brand. The ground system is by far the most important aspect to the whole electric fence system. It's what ties everything together. If you have a larger joule unit and you don't have enough ground rods for the system, your ground voltage on the ground rods can creep up and you'll lose some voltage and shock power from the fence. You can never have too many ground rods, but you can have not enough and then wonder why animals are walking through your fence or why you hardly feel any shock on the fence. There are ways to save money and cut corners when building an electric fence, but good money and time spent on a ground system and it'll save you hassle and frustration in the future.
@timothyjlewis61943 күн бұрын
Thanks i appreciate that. As an electrician, would a copper ground rods be more suitable? And using an actual copper ground wire?
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity3 күн бұрын
@timothyjlewis6194 Not for an electric fence set up. The ground system grabs that signal that comes from the fence, through the animals body, going back to the ground rods, and back to the unit. The ground system grabs that signal to return it to the unit to complete the circuit. Copper rods when they're out in the elements outside, will tend to corrode and get a tarnish on them either up top where you clamp the wire or down inside the dirt where you can't see it, and that inhibits the grounding effect and the ability for the ground rods to grab that signal. So every good manufacturer in electric fence as well as many fence contractors install galvanized ground rods, and they use galvanized ground ground rod clamps, and just use leftover electric fence wire. The ground wire and fence lead out wire don't have to be heavy gauge either, very low amps, so 14-12 gauge steel electric fence wire works just fine, and it won't cause electrolysis between the galvanize rods and the clamps and wire. You'll be a lot better off just spending the little bit of extra money on the galvanized stuff and you won't have to chase your tail trying to figure out why your fence isn't hot or why the animals are getting out. Money well spent on a good ground system will save you a ton of headaches down the road.

Curious what you think about Pioneer Fence Master fence chargers ??? Are they as good as they claim to be??
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity3 жыл бұрын
They're ok, the only thing about them is repairs and parts. I don't really try and work on them because getting parts for them is a pain and slow. They never set up anybody to be a repair center on their units, so they do most of that in house. But getting parts or a return phone call about parts is slow. So every time I get one in, I just call the customer and tell them I'm forwarding it into them to be looked at. Then they can deal with the company directly, they're just a pain to deal with. They'll work for awhile, but when they fail, and they do from time to time, buy a second unit of some sort while you wait.

@@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity They're slow to respond is an understatement ! I ordered one of their pioneer models new off eBay. Well two weeks later, after sending them several emails, I got no response, no charger, no tracking number for them shipping out the charger I paid for. So I contacted eBay, and they tried to contact them. Still no response from Fence Master. So EBay refunded my money. Well strangely enough, a week after I got my money refunded, I get a package from FedEx with a brand new charger from Fence Master. Now I don't know whether to return it, or what. Just another thing that's come up lately with this brand. They sent to be having little issues from time to time recently in the past year. Where they up and quit randomly. I've has a couple of customers can that bought them online and said it was in for repair to the manufacturer within 6 months. The only other brand that's really well made that doesn't have random issues is Gallagher. Those are better built than the Cyclops, but they do cost more and they're probably the best built in my book from a repair guys stand point.

What brand do you think is the best solar charger? Thank's for your time.
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity4 жыл бұрын
I think the best solar units out there are the Gallagher brand solar. They make all sizes of solar and are very portable friendly and reliable. I would stay away from the Patriot, the Zareba, red Snap'r, Blitzer, and American Farmworks brands for sure. Those are cheaply made, cheap on price, and they don't hold up long term. Parmak is ok, but they're kind of a coin toss on if they'll last 5+ years, or quit randomly within a year or two. Power Wizard and DARE solar units aren't too bad either. But I think if you want long term use, my money is on the Gallagher stuff.

Hello. I'm trying to put together an electric fence and I'm not having any luck. I have almost a mile and a half of 14 gauge galvanized wire. I bought a DC charger and a battery because I already have a solar panel to charge the battery. I put three copper ground rods in and I can't get a shock unless I touch a strand of barbed wire at the same time. It rains here constantly so I know the soil is wet. I really don't want to run extra wires for grounding. Should I just go with an AC charger? I have a Zareba 15 mile low impedance charger. I need to contain dogs, goats and a few milk cows. I am having a really hard time finding the information I want.

@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity2 жыл бұрын
This video is from 2 1/2 years ago, I'm not sure what age part you're talking about exactly in the video, I haven't watched this video in a couple of years since I made it. One thing about the cyclops models ss they age, their plastic cases aren't the greatest material as they age, 5-7 years they can start to fade and crack, faster if the unit is getting direct sunlight beating down on the unit. As far as how long they'll last, excluding lightning, 5-8+ years.

My goats are escape artist. What is the most powerful fence energizer that can be bought for less than $1,000? And why are you not making it and selling it?
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity4 жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry for not writing you sooner, but it's been busy with everything. The best built unit if your want really long term reliability, buy a Gallagher brand. Goats will respect anything over 5-6 joules, or at least they should. So it really depends on what size area you're fencing in, how many wires, and if you keep your fence clean of grass and stuff or not. A decent built unit that would work great would be the Gallagher M1500. It's around $500 +/- for a new unit and really really well built inside and out.
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity4 жыл бұрын
Hi, just to keep you in the loop a little bit. If you or someone you know ever wants to buy a unit, I'm getting ready to get set up with Gallagher to sell their units and also a company out of India is going to start letting me sell their units as well. I was a little hesitant on things from India, but after talking with them, they're so against anything made in China that they don't import anything from there. They seem to take a lot of pride in their products and quality control, so I think they're going to be a good product and they're old school electronics with no digital computer crap.

Why is there a sticker that says it requires 6 ground rods?
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity2 жыл бұрын
This particular unit is 41 stored joules 32 output joules, a VERY strong unit. The more joules a unit has the more crucial your ground system is. If you skimp out and cut corners on your ground system, especially on larger joule units, you'll have a lot of loss of power going to your fence and you'll have power going to your ground system instead. Then you'll be calling the manufacturer and complaining about your unit not working right and this and that, when it's not the units fault, it's the ground system not being adequate enough for the size unit. 6 ground rods is just the minimum for this size unit, your soil conditions might require more. 6-8' deep into the ground spaced 10' a part.

@@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity um I live on top of limestone how do you suggest I do that? Living on top of rock?
@FencerFixerRepairLLCKansasCity2 жыл бұрын
You're going to run into an issue with whatever unit you use, because there has to be a ground of some sort. The animal's body has to be touching a ground. The energy goes from the hot wire, to the animals body, to a ground, and back to the unit to connect the circuit. You'll have to use a grounded wire or multiple grounded wires on the the fence line and tie those back into the ground terminal of the unit itself. Then once the animal touches one of the a ground wires and one of the hot wires at the same time, they'll connect the circuit that way and get a shock because then they're basically putting their body across the terminals of the fence charger electrically. You probably wouldn't need a great big 30+ joule unit, unless your running 500-1000+ acres. Also the ground rods don't have to be right by the unit, they can be out a little ways. They also don't have to be in a straight line in a row or straight down into the ground. You can drive them in at an angle, lay them in trench a few inches down in the ground and you'll still need them spaced 10' a part.
