I have that very same Trans Am In Black and it still kicks ass. You rarely ever see them on the road and when you do, they really stand out in a crowd. Whenever I drive my Trans Am on the Freeway, other cars get out of my way. Whenever I am waiting at the light, other cars hang back. These Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Hod Rods are already Instant Classics, as you rarely see them anywhere.

I love reading the comments on these vids. You can always tell whose a ricer and who has no clue at all about real car performance. It sounds like that because of the cam lobe. The opening and closing of the valve give it that insane gurgle. Big cams like this also kill vacuum that's why he stalled out. Low vacuum. This is what you call sacrificing street manners for power as big cams can be hell on the street at idle. A tune can help bump idle settings but a vacuum canister is even better. If he's running a cam like that without a Tune I hope he was driving to the tuner because you can can hurt your engine running it raw like that.

To be a bit more specific for anyone who's new to engines. The primary cause for cammed engines to run like this is overlap. Overlap is when the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. At idle or a low throttle opening, the exhaust port is near atmospheric pressure and the intake port is below atmospheric pressure, so before the intake flow begins, exhaust gas starts to travel up the intake port and then it's sucked back out when the intake process begins causing combustion instability from exhaust gas dilution and that's why you get the rough idle/chop.

I know this is an old comment but an LS3 heads intake on an LQ9 is not an LS3. LQ9 is an Iron Block. LS3 Aluminum and an LQ9 comes as a 364Cubic Inches. You can stroke the motor and to an LS3 376 but that's a waste of money. Most guys go 383 402 408 416 427 LQs or LSXs. It would never be classified LS3 just because of heads and Intake even with an LS3 top end. The pontiac g8 has an LS3 top end heads and intake but it's a 6.0 like an LQ9 but an aluminum engine. It's an L76. And LQ9 with LS3 head and intake is all the same of an G8 6.0 except the Iron Block of the LQ. Why does all this matter? Calling it an LS3 is assumed to be an aluminum motor and prone to high levels off boost involving the additional heat. An iron block LQ9 will tolerate the heat better over all and wouldn't sweat over a 1000whp

its not bad. i used my 73 AMX as a daily driver with a open headers and a lopey cam for years. it only sucks a little when your in town, but out on the open road or highway, most of the sound is behind you. how i got away without ever getting pulled over for the headers i'll never know. after 12 years it still has open headers. my V6 dakota is actualy more annoying with its glasspack cause its a stock V6.
