@@tvcrazyman I loved Thundarr the Barbarian a shame it was only two seasons... One question I had was Thundarr clearly didn't like wizards and any or all magic users yet he was friends with Ariel who used magic and aside from the obvious reason she was a women.....why would he trust her or travel the lands with her if she used magic.
@tvcrazyman
@tvcrazyman 2 жыл бұрын
@@patrickperalta59 That's a good question. I could only guess, I can't remember off the top of my head if they addressed that on the series or not. I do know he seemed to really like her and be protective of her in the series. Of course, they were both good guys so there's that.
@patrickperalta59

@@tvcrazyman that was true he was clearly protective of her since it's a children's cartoon you can't dwell on adult themes....yet he clearly considered her his friend and do his best to be protective of her. I remember the cartoon "Battle of the Planets and the two main characters Mark and Princess had hints of attraction to each other but that was all..... the show was originaly a japan show and their animation is more adult themed...but here in America they had to make adjustments to the characters.

@@tvcrazyman Thundarr had a Unsolved Mystery. He hated magic users yet he accepted Ariel who is not only a friend but a magic user...why didn't he hate her since she used magic and he was not fond of magic users.

Between this TV show and Gamma World that RPG from when I was a teen, these inspirations helped me write. 40+ years later I am writing novels. No one really gives these cartoons much credit but they did so much amazing things for kids back in the day. I really appreciate you bringing this up, and I thank you for it.

Get this- Filmation's answer to Ruby-Spears' Thundarr was Blackstar, which premiered on CBS in 1981. 2 years later, in first-run syndication, Filmation launched He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Anything evolving fron both Thundarr and Blackstar led to He-Man. Think about that!!!

I LOVED this series! No one in my house ever said or did anything on Saturday mornings that might interrupt any part of this show or they would have gotten such a harangue because reruns were not a guarantee and they were always a year away from original broadcast. So if I missed one, there was hell to pay.

Wow!! This takes Me back a bit... When Yet still in high school, Three friends & Me formed Our Own comic book making club. We would split into basically two factions: Two of Us drew the characters, the other two were the inker,(words printer,) & colorer guy. Once a week We'd meet to discuss details of the "self-made" products that were to be sold to both students & staff members!! 🤫 Unfortunately, business was kinda' slow & eventually it was a "no go."

Awesome cartoon and still one of the coolest world-building/reveals week by week. Still ashame to think of how close we were to a thrid season and a comic book (especially knowing we got Mork & Mindy and Lavern and Shirly cartoons instead, and Gokd Key/Whitman fell).

"Thundarr" was among the last of the great Saturday morning cartoons. In my opinion "Dungeons & Dragons" was the very last one around '84 or so. I never missed Thundarr. I wish they'd continue these old toons in the same animation style...like what they did for XMEN.

When I watched this show, I always wondered, was Thundarr's sword a weapon of sorcery(magical), or was it a weapon of super science? We may never know the answer, unless one of the people who worked on the show is still alive and knows the answer.
@tvcrazyman

That is a great question. It would be neat to know the sword's origin. I think subconsciously I perceived it as a weapon of science, but who knows.

Like they say, any advanced science is magic to less advanced beings. I watched the show as a kid and even now as an adult on Saturday mornings, lol..and i think that most of the magic in the show was just like they said "super science" .The Sun Sword was a highly advanced melee weapon that Thundarr was given..or "acquired".

Nice video - I learned a couple things I didn't know before! the behind the scenes special feature from the dvd set is on youtube - Lords Of Light - The Thundarr the Barbarian Story. No question that elements were inspired by Star Wars... a light saber, a wookie, and a princess. Audio tip - back off from your mic a bit, will pick up less tongue noises that way.

i liked the "Laverne & Shirley" cartoon at the time, but probably not as much as "Thundarr." Ron Pallilo, who had played Horshak on "Welcome Back, Kotter," did the voice of a talking pig. "Fonzie and the Happy Days Gang" aired the year after Ron Howard and Donny Most left the live action series, but they did the voices of Richie and Ralph on the animated show.

Jack Kirby's 1972-78 DC comic series Kamandi is very similar to Thundarr, I think Evanier was also working on script for it... so both these guys made Thundarr close in style. I would say this was one of the last Saturday morning cartoon I thought was worth watching... replaced by really bad stuff.

I wish. A rich person who could buy and own Thundarr the Barbarian animation. Thundarr is a great warrior, possessing indomitable willpower, durability to harm, and a healing factor. Thundarr needs a comic book of his own! Thundarr is classic and shouldn't be on the waiting list! Arielle ought to possess more knowledge of magic like Dr. Strange. Ookla is incredibly strong and has high durability to bodily harm! It would be cooler if Thundarr meets Conan the Barbarian. No villain would be able to tolerate two Barbarians coming after them.
