Thunder and hail storms/ I had to move in middle of the night/ Van life in BC

I love storms!! Thunder & Lightening!🌩 when kids were younger in AZ, I had a hatchback. Load them with a pallet and go out in desert for monsoons!

It can be scary when storms come up . I was in my van and a tornado warning was issued heavy winds and hail it’s scary you don’t know if you should move or stay. When trees start to go down it’s time to move.

I know in states you can get very bad weather. In Canada we don't get that many tornados and they are often not as bad as you guys get it. Stay safe

@@ThecatladyVAN oh wow, I didn't realize that Canada gets tornados at all, but then I live in Western Washington and apparently we do get the occasional tornado here too, although I've never seen one or even the after math of one.... (but not complaining Mother Nature...no need to show me, thanks!!!) I am so grateful for a pretty mild climate really here in my area. It rains a LOT, but I'm good with that, its what keeps it so green and beautiful here. Gotta appreciate the rain!!! 🍃🤗🍃

Emi, I can’t believe how good Kelly is during the storm. My cats do everything possible during storms to hide away. I make them little forts around the house using totes and chairs. I’ll take a sheet and use those strong dollar tree clips. They love that. Glad you got out of there. I might have hid under blanket. Take care.

@@jackrich3587 don’t know where you’ve been but rubber tires don’t stop falling branches or trees themselves from crashing down on your van in high winds or erosion. Doesn’t have to be a lightning strike.

When you get hail go park under the roof of the gas station at a gas pump. I’ve done that many times travelling..... lightning is no worry. Your tires are great insulation. If struck the lightning will follow quickest path to ground, the metal skin of car. Being inside car you have good insulation via tires and are safe.

Not in all cases any more just watched a video to where some cars you can still get shocked in especially newer cars where wires run into the seats or from outside to inside. One lady even got struck in her house while her mom rubbed her feet, came through the ceiling

Not always good option, I live in Texas and have a lot of storms with very bad hail and I’ve seen those cover over the gas pumps fall because of hail.

What an absolutely spectacular storm!! Being the reckless daredevil that I am, I'd have gotten out and stood by the lakeside. Electrical storms are so magical, and the fact that there were 3 separate storms that night is special. 3 is a sacred number in Celtic folklore. Your van is grounded by the rubber tyres, so that keeps you safe. But smart move to relocate yourself in case a tree was struck next to you, or flash flooding took the road out. I grew up in Oklahoma, "Tornado Alley"... sooooo many times tornadoes come thru & level entire subdivisions. It happened to my stepfather's home - when we went in to see if we could salvage anything, the National Guard was there providing security. It looked like a warzone... I couldn't even tell where we were, all the landmarks were gone, trees, houses, everything, just shredded. Do a search for "May 3rd 1999 tornado Oklahoma", that was it & you can see.

Try ear plugs. That sounds so loud. reduces 50 to 60 percent noise and Really helps for sleeping. Sold at shoppers drug mart.

One time when I was backpacking way up high in the alpine zone of rock and shrubbery all of a sudden it stormed with rain hail and lightning bolts hitting here and there nearby! Good news, being inside a car is very safe during lightning. The metal shell of a car conducts lightning around the car and through the tires/ground, you're at a very low risk of any injury. Probably don't touch the metal inside the car though. Your car's electrical system might be impacted, but you an your cats will be safe, so no need to worry about that part.

The road conditions looked so bad, especially with the low-lying fog, that you would probably have been better off staying where you were. As others have written, you are safe from lightning inside the van. Glad you made it okay; driving in that would be hard, especially when tired.
