I was camping on a whitewater rafting trip on the Deschutes River a few years ago with my BF, his dad and brother. We were relaxing in the tent, me reading a book and BF napping, when I glanced over my shoulder out the tent window to see a big black cloud looming across the river. It rolled over top of us, stopped and unleashed thunder, lightning and torrential rains for about 20 minutes. We were eyeballing the concrete vault toilet as a shelter if we started getting lightning in camp. The river turned to chocolate milk and the bottom of our tent did get wet until the water soaked into the ground. Most frightening 20 minutes I've ever experienced out in nature.

I've never camped out during a thunderstorm before although many a time it rained where I camped on the Olympic Peninsula. Your cozy tarp-covered area was a good idea so you could still enjoy the outdoors under shelter rather than spend the whole time in your tent. Once when I put up a tarp over my tent I went on an hour hike and when I returned the tarp was full of rainwater. So I had to lift my Northface tent and carry over to a dryer, higher area and then I redid my tarp. I was inexperienced with it and cut my finger on my pocketknife! Oh well. Still, it's lovely hearing the raindrops pattering on the tent and the tree frogs peeping in the night. Meanwhile your little campsite with its thunderstorm, owl, and woodpecker provided a nature soundtrack while you made dinner, and read your book, and took in the scenery. Thanks again for bringing us along on another adventure! Jenny USA ⛈🦉🪶🏕

Yes, so wonderful to not have to travel far and still find a special quiet spot.

We don't get many of these kind of storms , do we? I find it quite interesting and exciting. The air felt so much better after, the plants were happy too!

Hello! I’m a Wendy too. I love camping videos, although I don’t camp. Stumbled across your channel, quite by accident. I can’t wait to watch more!

Sometimes I love the KZbin algorithm otherwise I wouldn't have found your channel. I love it when you're cosy in a tent while it thunder storms. Next time you light your Trangia stove dip a twig in the alcohol then light the stick, it's much easier. Love from England 🏴

Greetings from Australia. Awesome to see you taking advantage of little getaways so close to suburbia. Nice hiking camp setup too 👍
