My guess is he is catching all his own razor clams to keep bait cost down. As expensive as blue claws are, he probably needs to catch at least one bushel to make a profit

Long time ago back on Long Island New York I was a commercial clam diver. People would ask me 'What happens if it rains while you're clamming?' I would tell them 'Get even more wet'
