It amazes me that they get such precise control from such a small movement - seems like you would need a wider range of movement for more precise control. Also I don't see how they can do precise control while under maximum G forces. If your hand weights 8 times normal how can you control ? I went to air shows all my life and watched the T-birds fly. Now I fly my own F-16 Thunderbird remote control model and do many of the moves they do in the shows. It honors them and brings back good memories for me. My favorite move is going vertical and rolling until almost out of sight.

@SuperAwesomeNation You are mistaken. The F-16 was designed in the early 70s by GD. Lockheed bought out GD in 1993. Lockheed Martin has been building 'em for 20 years, but they did not design it.

General Dynamics sold their manufacturing contract to the then-Lockheed Corp. in 1993, which merged with Martin Marietta two years later and then merged again to become Lockheed Martin another year after that. (My dad was an aerospace engineer at the Lockheed campus northwest of Philly from 1977 to 1999 and all through the mergers.) Maybe that's what he was thinking of, if this particular aircraft was newer than 1993?...idk lol.

when u eject cant u break ur knees because it is under the control panels? and when u eject u can bang ur knees really hard? Or does the control thing open up too?

If you notice @ 1:15 the seat is reclined 30 degrees to combat the g-forces on the pilot during maneuvers but it also means the pilot won't be shot directly and his knees would clear the dash. If it's anything like the F/A-18 the pilot will be attached by low leg garters that will pull his lower body close to the seat as well.

@@Ayetsu The F-16 doesn’t use leg garters or anything like that. The seat is reclined enough that the pilot ejects at a 30 degree rearward angle.

He most likely flew a different kind of fighter before joining the Thunderbirds, probably the F-15. When that happens they learn enough about the jet to do what they need to to on the Thunderbirds-start it, fly it, emergency procedures. Then its all air show all the time.
