I love how Ray says that you can't make an "absolute statement", and says things like: "God created everything because it says so in the scriptures"
@rowanlol

+endrightwinglunacy It is not Ray making that absolute statement, it is God that is making that absolute statement. We cannot possibly make absolute statements unless it involves the revelations of God, because it are His abosulte statements.

He said he knows the painting is from a painter because of common sense, and he even claims he would know even if he didn't have the experience of seeing a painter or paintings before...how...how is that remotely possible. yes, you're right. but on the other hand, it's without a point to have a discussion with 2 people, that are stuck on their opinions and nothing on earth will change that. it's no discussion, because you neighter change your opinion, nor can you find a middle way that both can agree on. It's just a battle of arguments, that the other will dismiss. it's entertaining, yes, but useless.

It doesn't change what he is saying and so far you have not made any attempt to challenge him for what he said. Typically when people either can not win an argument or even form an argument they resort to personal insults and attacks.

Ray Cumfart starts with a question, waits till right before Thunderf00t gets to the point, interupts and asks a new question, waits till he comes to the point again, and then switches between these questions when he is about to lose the argument. Ray has no factual arguments, what so ever. He only makes claims and assumptions based on his belief. He is using tactics to avoid explaining himself and to seem talkworthy. Animals don't know right from wrong and the difference between good and evil? If you believe that, you've never seen a mother (or any animal) taking care of its young. Would a mother cat devour her kitten? NO Would a mother cat allow a strange animal or other cat approach her young without defending them? NO The moral laws of cats are not written down, but all cats know it somehow. Were cats made in the image of God?
@captainassbananas2360
@captainassbananas2360 10 жыл бұрын
That is something called maternal instinct. It's an adaptation for survival. If the mother cat simply devoured her kitten because she was hungry, or allowed some other strange organism to approach and possibly harm it because she didn't care, then the chances of a new generation of cats continuing is significantly lower. Since it is vital for the next generation to come into being to create another new generation, the parts of the brain responsible for maternal instinct developed to allow the species to survive. It's an evolutionary trait present in all higher life forms.

Captain Assbananas You've oversimplified animal behavior tremendously. Animal behavior (like human behavior) can be changed in less than 10 seconds. There's no difference at all. Animals don't think to themselves, "I won't do X, Y, Z, because my species will end." Rubbish.
@argylegargoyle3909
@argylegargoyle3909 9 жыл бұрын
You know, I was just thinking about something similar to this once Ray went on about humans and how we are the only moral creatures. I would propose a few questions; Let's say you have a child but you're a bad parent and you never ever ever once played a game with them or read to them or anything mentally stimulating. Well, would that not be immoral? I think everyone can agree that is indeed an immoral method of parenting. So, as you've said before, with the mama-cat defending her kittens, she would also play with them and teach them the ways of the world from her mama-cat perspective. Dolphins play games with members of their pods and members of pods of dolphins from different species. Bottlenose dolphins will actually help Spotted dolphin mothers babysit their calves. Is that not even more of a defining moral action? Two dolphins from different species working together for the benefit of their families. Ray needs to get humanity off this pedestal. Humans may have a word for morality and an understanding of that word, but you don't exactly see members of the animal kingdom committing devastating wars to their own species every generation.

I think it is funny that Mr. Comfort says that the difference between man and animals is that "man is a moral being, that we set up court systems, when none of the animals care about justice and truth". Unfortunately for Mr. Comfort, this is simply not true. Any pack or civilization, if you will, of animals has its own unique way of enforcing the rules on the others in their society. For instance, an alpha wolf will strictly enforce the rules of the pack on those who disobey the rules. Apes, lions, elephants and virtually every animal that utilizes a group of individuals have rules and not following them is punished, which we would call "justice".

We climbed out of trees, that led us to free hands, big brains, and self awareness. That last one is the key to what you are talking about. Once we have the ability to ask questions, we seek to answer them. These questions were unanswerable because of a lack of technology, but we still needed explanations. Gods logically followed. But since we are able to answer almost all of the questions god answered, there is no more need.God is a comfort, but we don't need him to explain what we see anymore

So if the only paintings you've ever seen were produced by Jackson Pollock, & came upon a canvas lying under some scaffolding that was splattered with paint, you would know that it was created by Pollock. However, if you'd arrived a minute earlier you would've noticed that a strong breeze had toppled some cans of paint that were sitting on the scaffolding, & saw that the 'painting' was created by the paint dripping down from the upset paint cans. So from that we can infer that not all paintings need a painter. Watchmaker argument over.

I would have loved to see both of these men learn something from each other. I didn't see much of that happening. However, the fact that they even had this discussion is evidence that they tried. Uniting seemingly opposite viewpoints is what the world needs. Everyone believes in love, we just all see that truth in a different way. With a committment to understanding each other, we could realize that we're all essentially the same, atheist, Christian, Buddhist or Muslim.

If God created the universe then who or what created God? And if God has always existed without a beginning, then why can't creationists accept the universe itself may have always existed without a beginning? It's only because we think within the confines of human reasoning that we can't understand something could exist without a beginning. Our brains are not capable of comprehending the truth. To think we can is just arrogant.

A painting can easily be painted without a painter. Let's say you have a canvas set up on a easel in your garage, under a shelf of paint. A 9 magnitude earthquake later, the paint falls off the shelf and onto the canvas. Coincidentally, you had all the colors used in the Mona Lisa, and the Earthquake shook the land in such a way that made the paint mimic the exact brush strokes. Is the creator God, then? If so, that means that someone/thing must of created God, because he technically superseeds the idea of a "creator" (the painter) for the painting.

I've found a little "gem", if you will, about matter. In the double slit experiment, _matter_ made a _wave-like_ pattern when not closely observed, but made a _matter-like_ pattern when closely observed. The wave-like pattern could only have taken place if the electron went through both holes simultaneously and interfered with intself. If matter (in this case electrons) are able to, in a way, _sense_ our presence and do strange things which defy our understanding

I love this conversation. My theory is the mind power of everyone on earth is what people who believe in religion call God. I've tapped in to that energy, and society calls me a psychic, because I can see more than others. However, I believe that all people can do this. I don't attribute to "god," just a human fabric need for justice. I boil it down to waves and science. Not a god.

Belief is not about being asked the question, it's about being presented with a set of material. That set of material has not been presented to the atheist according to him/her and as such that person does not have a reason to decide one way or the other. If someone else then comes along and says you should believe because x, x being whatever optional nonsense reason, the person answers "no i should not" - essentially claiming that the required set of material has yet to be presented to him/her.

@Cummnz Nice way to completely go around what I was saying. All I said was that if neither of us can prove there is or isn't a god, wouldn't be more sensical to say there isn't just off of common sense alone?

We ARE animals!!!!!! The "morality" that most of us share is a result of what is good for the whole. Most of these "morals" can be observed in all forms of life; just because we are able to label it doesn't mean it's exclusive to our species. And it certainly does NOT point to any sort of creation.

Regarding the point about murder. In moral terms there is an important distinction between murder as a judicial concept ie unauthorised killing and killing another human in terms of morality. Most human societies have a concept of murder and usually this means the killing of someone in your social group for personal gain, however there are, equally instances where killing for self defence, the defence of others or even more abstract motives which can be determined as being for social good (with greatly varying criteria) is acceptable or indeed seen as a social duty. This certainly seems to strongly suggest that, while indiscriminate killing is generally not socially acceptable the precise boundaries for when it is and is not moral are cultural rather than an inherent quality of humanity. It's also worth noting that in most animals intra-species killing is fairly rare and even where it is observed it is generally for some evolutionary advantage, species that indiscriminately slaughter each other seem to be strangely absent.

Thunderf00t does an excellent job here. He was so calm and cool compared to Ray fidgeting from one point to the next. I think Ray was trying to trip Thunderf00t up at every point...but hampered by Thunderf00t's ability to break things down and slow down to address each claim...something that destroys every last one of Ray's points. Sometimes I honestly think Ray may be a charlatan. I simply cannot conceive that he's honest. He's not dumb...he KNOWS he's misrepresenting things. He just has to...

"how is it easier to believe something nobody has witnessed (genus/phyllum level evolution)" Actually, we've witnessed events at the genus level, and even at the family level. It is exceptionally unlikely that an event at the phylum level would ever take place--such an event would be massively beyond anything predicted by the theory of evolution.

@tmargette 'Where I got it from' was in relation to the documentation. I was under the impression you had a signed and stamped document confirming your 'ability' but now I understand what you meant. I would indeed like to take a read of it though if possible.

@hustondodgball, He's not using the long winded approach, he's taking what Ray-ray says and instead of accepting the responses he breaks them down to show the steps to come to the (right/wrong) conclusion. He numerously corrects Ray to stay on topic.

Thanks for the response. Either the universe 1. Always existed 2. Created itself or 3. Was created by something/someone outside of itself. You have to rule out #1 based on galactic motion, 2nd law of thermodynamics and radiation echo. All point to a start. Even Stephen Hawking agrees the universe had a beginning. Per my previous argument, #2 is not possible as “nothing” can not create “something.” (...continued)

@kswarner14 1. Atheistic theories don't break the laws of conservation. 2. Yes, it's apparently expanding, Yes It theoretically could have had a beginning - What makes you think it was a creator? -thunderf00ts already been through the whole 'i came across a thing in a desert' scenario. 3. Why do you think it would have to be living, it could have been a natural occurring event. 4. No we haven't and because of point 3, nothing has had to break the laws of point 1 either.

"Why do we perceive ourselves as being the highest form of Creation?" "If oxen and horses and lions had hands and were able to draw with their hands and do the same things as men, horses would draw the shapes of gods to look like horses and oxen would draw them to look like oxen, and each would make the gods bodies have the same shape as they themselves had." Read your Xenophanes; he answered your question 2500 years ago, give or take.

Many of these comments are very negative towards Ray Comfort, but as an atheist I very much appreciate the fact that he has spared his time and allowed Thunderf00t to talk and participate in a rational discussion. For someone who has watched some of Thunderf00t's other videos with creationists / fundamentalist christians this was quite the breath of fresh air. I may disagree with Ray, but engaging in honest and open discussion is always a good thing.

@Haizum74 Hi Haizum74, "Fooling myself" is not an option. I am happy to share documentation with you. I can try to explain it here, but it is off topic from the conversation fo the video. I only mentioned it, because Ray mentioned a little girl who was buried alived in Florida, and that is my one case, my one time my ability has actually been documented. To answer your questions, "Where you got it from?" I can only assume you are talking about my insight? Perhaps if not, please clarify.

What I'd desire on these matters is of no relevance to actual reality nor world view. About your questions: 1. I don't indulge myself to having a desire on this matter since it's of no relevance to reality - only reality is. 2. I don't indulge myself to having a desire on this matter since it's of no relevance to reality - only reality is. 3. I can imagine a plethora of desirable futures, but to limit myself to a single one is unrealistic - as is not recognizing that it might not be so.

According to Comfort, God made the moisture that makes snow, the process that moisture goes through to make snow, AND the snow all simultaneously with and independently of each other. This means that no one thing is dependent upon another. God simply makes it appear that way forever. All so that we can exist in the form we exist in. It gives merit to the idea that god is behind the mechanics of the universe if you also say that the mechanics aren't necessary because he can sustain them himself, and does simultaneously... sort of... But one still has to ask, WHY! Also one always has to ask WHY, every time Comfort speaks.
