The "cooler" for the electrical lines to the alternator is the bridge rectifier for the alternator. The other ones had generators on them back then. This was a radio truck with the high output Alternator. The regular generator was 25 amp. This unit is 100 amp and an alternator.

Flat tappet is about 2 inch long. Hydraulic tappet is about 2 1/2 inch long. 1967 Gladiator 3/4 ton pick-up truck Jeepster and Dodge suspension Army hybrid have OHC straight-Six and don't need any tappet. Just the guide for each rocker arm at one end where the Valve set-Train bar have 12 rocker arm guides. Usually, a Kaiser type cam follower called guide so it allow the rocker arm tip in lifting up - straight up atop the valve for combustion seals in valve guide seats.

I'm a little late to the party (by about 2 years.....) but the electrical system is very similar to a Hotchkiss M201 Jeep (post war French built Willys). They were 24v, so they started, and had the sealed distributor and plug leads. The distributor on the M201 looks very similar to the one on this Jeep, I'd say the coil is probably the same . The electrics were screened so they could be used as radio trucks, and the plugs and plug leads are eye wateringly expensive..!!

@neil62124 жыл бұрын
Checked back on the electrical system: The alternator is a Military Standard, probably 60 amps. The cable from the alternator runs to the connection in front of the radiator, for an old style selenium rectifier, and the other cable runs back to the voltage regulator. In case of failure (rare) if absolute restoration is not the goal, I would replace it with a 24 volt truck type alternator and regulator. They are pretty common. The ignition system uses the same system, plugs and wires, as are used in piston engine aircraft, and many of the Military small engines. The object of course, is dependability and available parts in the motor pool. THey plug wires are of course, waterproof as well as shielded against RF interference. If that system fails, the cheapest repair would probably be to replace the distributor with a regular civilian Jeep model,and source a 24 volt coil or use an appropriate ballast resistor. The rest of the stuff, lights, instruments and so on are commonly available, and used on buses and many trucks.

The OHC 230 inline six was derived from the 230 inline six found in the Jeep CJ. It was made for use in both first generation Wagoneer and Gladiator pickup. It was the only engine available until '65 when Kaiser Jeep began using the GM 327 V8( called the Vigilante by Jeep) as an option due to complaints from customers about the 230 not having enough towing capacity.
@philipjooste90752 жыл бұрын
The 230 OHC (Tornado) was never used in any Jeep CJ nor was it derived from any AMC engine. You're thinking of the 232/258 OHV six which has nothing in common.

Hastings oil filters in the 1980s were known to be soupier to standard filters because they used a fiber filter element instead of paper. They were recommended by "Circle Track" magazine as the best, and they were somewhat more expensive when you could find them. I learned to cut open my oil filters in general aviation and Hastings had a heavier metal case like general aviation filters. They will stand higher pressure without failure. Good for 20W/50 oil.

In the military we called them weapons carriers because we used them to bring weapons, ammo and rations up to the fighting units. As a result they had to be able to handle all types of terrain. I also remember that electric power switch was called a combat switch. But we had to remove the switch and take it with us when we parked the truck or the vehicle would be gone when we returned. Sometimes referred to as a midnight requisition.
