God bless! I’ve been learning to fish for a year now and I have no idea how I’ve managed to catch some good fish. I’ve had my drag loose ASF! Beginners luck for sure.

Hey Ivo, First off, THANK YOU. Of all the fishing tip channels on youTube, this one is easily the most informative and helpful that I have come across. I have watched all the videos you guys have produced (many of them multiple times) and it has helped my fishing game substantially. This has been my best season on the water and your tips and information has been a great part of this. Once again thank you for these videos and look forward to more in the future.

great channel this. i needed to know how fighting drag worked on my shimano stradic GTM RC 4000S. i watched a couple of videos (3 in fact) and at least now I know how it works in theory. hooking a fish for real and using this feature to good advantage might be more difficult.

Great to hear form you in Keswick - great ice fishing for perch and pike right in front of your town! The bay is also great for largemouth and pike on open water. Rice lake is loaded with fish and we like to fish the islands, with the bay beside Tick island as one of our most favourite weed flats :)

Hi Tommy and your definition is correct as I know it and even though the maximum drag is 12 pounds, you can easily still catch and land much bigger fish :)

I like to have the drag tight as soon as you set the hook. Then you can back off of it a bit. When the fish get's close to the boat, if your drag is too tight, there is a good chance you could break your line, so you may want to back off the drag a bit more at that point. You just do not want the drag to be so light that you loose control of the fish :)
@discuss21309 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great tips. I probably got away with a bit too tight drag without losing many fish up until now. Will experiment more with different drag settings from now on to see if it helps the catch rate.

about the pole holding, ive found that when i bass fishing and want movement on my worms/lures i holt the pole above the reel. but when im ocean fishing and theres a chance you catch a nice fish i told it like you showed to have more power/grip. nice vids

Was reeling in a catfish tonight.. about 5lbs or so. And the reel was incredibly hard to turn and was making that high pitched ping noise like it was ready to snap so I let the drag out too quickly/too loose and nearly lost him. Drag is VERY important. And a pain in the ass to screw with when you're trying to bring a fish in haha. Learned my lesson.

Both rods will work. The 7' rod will enable you to get more distance, but I would prefer the 6' 9" rod for jigging and drop shotting :)

let me ask what is your Train of thought on what a Drag setting should be . I heard 20 % of what the Lines poundage is . so a 10 Lbs line would have the drag set at 2.5- 3 Lbs . Just want your thought on that!
@thundermistlures6 жыл бұрын
I like a tight drag on the hook set - not so tight that this is no drag, but a bit of drag....hard to explain :)

Hey Ivo I got another question for you. When looking at specifics for different reels, I get confused with the meaning of Maximum Drag. If a reel has a max drag of 12 pounds, what exactly does that mean? Does that mean if you set your drag as tight as possible than it will take 12 pounds before line is let out? How heavy of a fish could you catch with a maximum drag of 12 pounds? Thanks!
@thundermistlures12 жыл бұрын
....not sure but in the meanwhile, if you have not seen them all, we have plenty of Fluke and sea bass videos on our KZbin site, or you can search for them on our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site :) Thanks for tuning in and good luck on the water!

@keeganjacobs31019 жыл бұрын
So when do you tighten the drag after fighting the fish since you loosened it ? Or do you loosen the line when you hook the fish, and just reel it in without tightening the drag ?
@thundermistlures9 жыл бұрын
+Keegan Jacobs ....typically, you have a tight drag when you are setting the hook, then you back off on it while you are fighting the fish :) If you lossen it to much, you will notice that when you reel, nothing happens and no line comes in - if that happens, just tighten up a bit :)

Some one told me that we are suppose to use the rod upside down so the pressure isn't on the circles but on the rod itself. Is that true?? so basically the real is on top.

Hi Chris - the best thing you can do is to find a parts list for that particulate reel as the parts list usually show how to assemble. Good luck

@mystoneangels I live on lake simcoe up past new market in keswick, Born and raised in Keene on rice lake fishing big fat bass and walleye. Simcoe is amazing though. 45 mins north up the 404. also at the corner of 7 and bowes in the plaza in vaughn there's a angling store that has live bait. I suggest stopping there. live bait in keswick is worms. sutton has a store... Msg me and I'll let you know of some nice spots on both lakes.
