Thurman vs Porter FULL FIGHT: June 25, 2016 - PBC on Showtime

Prizefighting returned to CBS on Saturday, June 25, 2016, with a Fight of the Year candidate as undefeated welterweight world champion Keith Thurman edged former world champion Shawn Porter in a close but unanimous decision scored 115-113 by all three ringside judges.
The 12,718 fans in attendance at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the viewers across the U.S. watching the first primetime boxing event on CBS since Muhammed Ali-Leon Spinks in 1978 were treated to a slugfest between two of the brightest stars in boxing’s glamour division.
Thurman (27-0, 22 KOs) and Porter (26-2-1, 16 KOs) combined to throw over 1200 punches in the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS event, presented by Premier Boxing Champions. The marquee showdown was a story of accuracy vs. activity, as Thurman landed 50 percent of his power shots, compared to 38 percent for Porter, and 44 percent of his total punches compared to just 36 percent for the challenger. While Thurman landed at a higher percentage, Porter was the busier fighter, throwing over 100 more punches across 12 rounds.
“One Time” and “Showtime” delivered as advertised, with the powerful sharpshooter buckling Porter multiple times, while the swarming and smothering Porter barreled forward to bully Thurman into the ropes. And while there were no knockdowns, the back-and-forth blockbuster never lacked action and culminated in a standing ovation in the second-highest attended boxing event in Barclays Center history.
"I want to thank Shawn Porter for a tremendous fight. He's a great warrior,” said Thurman. “Defense is the key to victory. He smothers his punches a lot and makes it difficult for the judges to score. I was able to rock him with clear, effective blows and I believe that was the difference today.
“I would give him a rematch. It was great fight. He was a great opponent. Everyone was saying would he be my toughest opponent to date. I wasn’t able to drop him but I did buckle him a few times.”
The former world champion Porter, a perennial underdog but consummate gentleman, didn’t complain about being on the losing end of his second close decision in a title bout.
“We worked hard, Keith is a great champion,” Porter said. “My dad says to keep your head up. I think I won the fight, but I'm satisfied because the competitor came out tonight.
"We need that rematch. I know the fans want that rematch. If he gives me another chance, I'm going to work hard in the ring and leave with his title."

It's aways the same: undefeated ('0-guys) titleholders are always given preference by the judges. In my opinion Porter should have won, as he was the more aggressive and Thurman mostly on the defensive side. Porter is gonna make the fight tough that’s a given. This was really tough to score while I watched. Porter was the aggressor and really got Thurman on the ropes. But the counter punching from Thurman was key. Great fight from both guys, I wouldn’t have been made at a draw. But I always believe you gotta convincingly out fight the champ to take the belt if there’s no knock out.

Thurman still did put up a great performance in defeat.A young Thurman lost a SD to one of the most experienced boxers walking the planet today, people should give Thurman a bit more respect. Would love to see Spence finish business with Pacquaio then fight crawford next and finish up loose ends with Thurman and possibly even be the guy to fight some of the top prospects at 147 like Vergil Ortiz or Boots Ennis.

Prime Thurman was probably one of the most (RISK TAKING POWER PUNCHERS) I’ve ever seen in my life. Dude would literally be 5 feet away and hop in with a straight right and left hook. it’d be the first round and he already threw 10 left hooks and 10 right hands. I mean this dude took risk and he was powerful, quick& awkward so he got away with it . That’s what made him dangerous . Spence would Damage this nigga now but honestly I think Spence would have been in big trouble if Thurman didn’t duck Spence around this time. Damn, this was a really good fight. I'd rank it just below Spence v Porter. Thurman's counterpunching was so good in the second half of the fight. It seems that he takes some time to start before really finding his rhythm. Tbh though, I had that as a draw. It really came down to that last round in the end, and I could see how it could go both ways. Personally I gave it to Porter, which is why I scored it a tie. He just got really active in that last round and helped even out the score for me. Great fight, and another reason why I love Porter. No matter who he's fighting, Thurman or Spence, he makes it rough and tough on them. I would LOVE to see him fight Bud and see how that one turns out. Who knows, he could possibly be Bud's kryptonite like Ali-Frazier. Hell, he could reasonably have a rematch with Spence or Thurman too with how close both of those fights were. The commentator was mega-ass though for this fight like wtf was this on showtime as well because I'd like a version without that guy lol

@@tonemoney2691 Porter tried to box Ugas differently for some reason and not use his usual tactic of push and bully on the inside and electing to box. And even then Ugas wasn't doing enough for me to see him winning. He certainly had success but Ugas was too stagnant during the fight and missing shots. No idea who Julio Diaz is so im guessing thats one of porters earlier fights in which case he was likely still growing. Porter's going to put pressure on Bud like he's never seen before and at a level he's yet to fight at in Welter. We'll see how it goes

Blueprint? Idk man. Porter is a beast. This fight was really close and so was the Spence fight. In fact, if Porter doesn’t get knocked down in the 11th round of that Spence fight, he MIGHT have won the fight. Crawford doesn’t pass the same eye test that Spence and Thurman do. Crawford don’t look like he’s in that same caliber of fighter. He don’t fight like Spence and Thurman. Especially Thurman. One Time has been in there with legends and DOGS. Porter gonna bring it to Crawford with a tested chin, tested hands, and a tested mental. Crawford hasnt fought anyone thats pushed him or made him uncomfortable. Porter did that in this fight and against Spence making Spence and Thurman PROVE they are elite. Crawford gonna have to prove himself. He’ll need to do more than he did against a guy like Jeff Horn (who didn’t really beat Manny Pacquiao). I don’t see a blueprint to beating Porter for Crawford. He’s gotta go in there and be a DOG. He’s gonna have to elevate his game bc Porter will test him, it’ll be a good one. But this fight doesn’t give any blueprints. Porter a dog. You gotta be on your game when you step in with him bc every dog has their day.

IMO Thurman is still one of the best welterweights out there. He can give Crawford and Spence a lot of trouble n he can move very smoothly. No shame in losing to pacquiao, he took a dangerous fight, Floyd even retired to avoid Pac-Man
