Thursday Boot Co Sneakers After One Wear For Two Hours

Wore these once for about two hours and this what they now look like. Wanted to let people know what to expect so they are not surprised as I was. Not enough after wear boot/shoe videos out there.
I expected some creasing just as all my leather shoes and boots have but not to this extent, more so the right shoe, the left is acceptable. I use cedar shoe trees in all of of my leather boots and shoes including these. This video is after they had shoe trees in them for four days after the one time wearing.
Contacted Thursday Boot Co. and this is what they said:
“Looking at the photos and the video, we can confirm that the creases on this pair are from normal wear and are not considered a quality issue. It is just a result of the leather bending where your foot naturally bends as you walk. If we take a look at the creasing pattern on these shoes, we can see that they are almost similar and were developed according to your own gait and how much room you have inside the shoe over the top of the foot.
It may help to note that creasing is something that will occur within the first few minutes of wear with leather shoes and since the Old English is more of a softer material, they will appear naturally regardless of the number of times they were worn. Overall, it's part of the wear of this specific leather but in no way should it affect the durability of the pair.”

We don't have Thursday in this part of the world, but yesterday I tried some locally made brown leather sneakers, with a leather type and overall style very similar to yours (feels like a bit oily/impregnated/semi-shiny soft leather, rather than painted). As I wore them in the store they got a few creases straight away just like yours did, like not wavy-creases, but little crack-type of creases (the interesting thing is that this company's black and white sneakers don't crease this way). It reminded me cardboard paper creases, rather than leather creases (do you know what I mean?) I then looked at the sample model in the store and it was creased as well. I then googled the issue and saw your video. I think this type of "cardboard-paper" type of creasing is due to the leather quality and particularly of the brown type of leather. The sneakers I've been trying looked very similar to Thursday, so I guess they might be using very similar leather. And while creases on leather shoes usually contribute to their character, I don't think these "cardboard-type" of creases are acceptable for the sneakers that you want to wear business-casually. It's interesting what's your opinion on the problem.
@mjf70

I definitely think it is due to the type and quality of the leather. I got a different pair in Horween rough out leather that are not creasing at all, just some rolling, almost like what shell cordovan does. I also have some boots that I stripped in an attempt to antique. The stripping dried them out a lot and even though I reconditioned, that dryness lead to the cardboard cracks/creased as you referred to them. So that tells me the same thing happening in the sneakers might be due to leather not impregnated with oils very well or dried out sitting in a hot warehouse. But I’m no expert. I can say that my two pairs of Allen Edmonds dress shoes, one pair of loafers, and two pair of dress boots don’t crack/crease like the sneakers did.

Hey thanks for the video. I got a pair of these in the Cacao colour way used for several weeks and it’s not looking anything like your pair. Mine looks wavy rather then cracked creases so far. Maybe add some cream conditioner to your shoes to help it looking worse. Oh and don’t wear them with white socks. They will get very stained from the dye inside the show. My socks has literally turned brown. Also a pair of shoe trees could help. I’m not convinced that’s how they should look with so little use. I’m sure Thursday will take them back. I would expect that look after 6 months of use. Not hours. Thursday please take note guys.

I bought my first pair of thro classic boots. I just tried walking in my apartment to try them and I see significant creases. Hardly couple minutes of wear :/ I was really excited about this one as literally everyone raves about it - but $200 is lot for me to literally feel like it’s used on my first wear. Wondering if I should return or exchange. Don’t want to go through the hassle of exchanging if that’s just how Thursday boots go :/

You won’t be able to return or exchange if they show the signs of wear you say they do. You’ll have to contact them and they will tell you it’s normal. It’s possible the boots are too big for you. The extra space in the toe box creates more creasing. I have had two pairs of Captains and my wife has a pair as well, and none have creased in any way I found extreme. Leather does crease. It gives it some character. My issue was with a sneaker marketed as an elevated sneaker you could dress up, the way they looked after that first brief wear precluded that. Do you mind me asking which boots and in what leather you bought?

I expect some creasing with any leather shoe. It was the way they creased at the end of the toe on the right shoe that was most an issue for me. Made it look like there is a bubble at the toe. Your natural is Horween Chromexcel, which is notoriously creasy. So you kind of have to expect that if your buying shoes made from that leather. But it’s a famous beautiful leather that will patina nicely over time. It’s also more often used on boots and so sneakers in this leather would be more in the rugged category meaning creasing detracts less from them. Hence TBC put them in the Heritage collection. Glad you like them.

@mjf70
@mjf70 Жыл бұрын
Yep, they’re going to tell you it’s normal and adds to the character of the shoes. To some extent, they’re right. All leather shoes crease to some extent, even the finest bespoke leather shoes will crease. The extent to which they crease depends on several factors including fit. Everyone’s foot is different. Quality of leather matters too. And this is where I think Thursday falls short. I’m pretty sure they’re not getting first pick of leather from the producers providing them. That reduces cost. That’s still fine given their price point. Except that they market as if you’re getting some crazy deal on shoes that could cost you 2-3 times as much. In reality, they’re worth about what your paying. They’re relying on their customer base being what it mostly is, people who don’t really know a lot about high quality boots and shoes, and likely for whom $200 is pricey but doable, while true high quality shoes or boots are closer to $400 and go up and up to Edward Green territory of $1,700. See the commenters saying “bro” and “homies?” That’s Thursday’s typical clientele. Lol I’d try to get them to allow you to exchange. Remind them these are supposed to be elevated sneakers that can be dressed up or down. If you look at mine, no way those could have been dressed up business casual. But understand that if you exchange for another pair, you’ll likely end up with the same result. So I’d exchange for one of the heritage leathers and accept you’ll only be able to wear them casually. I wear my cacao ones as an alternative to boots. Don’t bother to write a bad review on their website. They won’t post it. I did an honest four star review of the racer jacket I purchased, indicating that it appears they were able to use a higher quality leather because they were saving money by using snaps instead of zippers at the cuffs, welt hand pockets instead of zipper pockets, and no breast pocket, which is standard fair for a racer jacket. I actually like the simpler aesthetic and said as much. They didn’t post it. When I called them on it, I got a bunch of excuses about taking time to review it before they could post. But I kept looking and it never posted. I’m pretty much done with Thursday. I gave them one more try when I bought some natural captains for my wife. One of the boots has a lot of loose grain. She didn’t care so we just kept them. All that said, I’m happy enough with my captains in canyon. Wife and I both took them to Iceland recently and wore them for walking around town and light trail walking. They were perfect for that. I buy mostly from Allen Edmonds. But they too have some QC issues at times. Free shipping and returns means it doesn’t cost you but it’s still a pain. However, you also have to understand that boots and shoes made by hand (on machines) are never going to be completely perfect and minor imperfections do add to the character if they’re not actual flaws. FYI, Allen Edmonds currently has a 40% off sale going so you can get better quality boots and shoes for only slightly more than Thursday. Best of luck.

@@mjf70 man you are on the same boat as me! I actually posted on Thursday Reddit about it and many said it was normal. I own some high end shoes in the 1k territory and am actually going to order some bespoke shoes soon. I am a leathercrafter so am very familiar with leather and it’s imperfections. You are spot on with their customer base. My work boots Always cost more than 300.00 and a pair of dress up shoes no less than $300.00. I also like Allen Edmonds and own a pair of beautiful Lombard Chelsea’s. Funny thing is I actually mentioned in my post on Reddit that I should’ve just busted out the 60.00 more for the AE sneaker. @@DJRicardoHenriquez Normal is a subjective term. And all creasing is not the same. I love those Lombards. Unfortunately they are out of my size. Love brogues. I have Daltons (full brogue), Strands (half brogue), and Boulevards (quarter brogue). I’m not typically a Chelsea boots guy but some of the more robust versions are appealing, like Trickers (brogue) Silvia Country Dealer in cafe suede. Nice. Too bad AE doesn’t make the Sullivan Street boots anymore. Not brogues but dressy country boots and a very respectable Edward Green Galway alternative. I have a black pair I dress up with a gray herringbone flannel suit. Wish I’d also purchased a brown pair when available. And who doesn’t love the C&J Islay boots. Just about a perfect country boot. Hope it works out for you. I think my video helped a little with my bargaining position. I sent them a link in my email when I contacted them. Like I said before, if they’ll exchange, go for one of the heritage leathers from Horween. Will work well with jeans or cords. Look elsewhere for elevated sneakers. I saw the after 3 months video first then only the unboxing. To be honest, i thought the creases looks amazing and makes me want to get it more. I couldnt understand why you didnt like it at first, then i saw the unboxing, and saw how much it look like a shinny classy dress shoe, that i wondered if you subconsciously expected the sneaker to look like a dress shoe? When you press the leather on the unboxing video, i could see how soft it was, which would make it so comfortable, but at the expense of creasing easily. I would totally get the old english leather, not sure what type it was but looks to me like oil pulled leather, whereby the leather gets distressed easily but forms beautiful creases and the creases will be lighter in color.
@mjf70
@mjf70 Жыл бұрын
Appreciate what you are saying. My expectation was an upscale sneaker based on their marketing. Not Common Projects quality of course but not this level of distress after one wear. If I want a dress shoe, have plenty of higher quality Allen Edmonds to chose from. Ultimately I decided to go with one of the heritage leathers and treat them as a boot alternative so that the distress is more welcome. And those don’t look nearly as distressed after multiple wears. And then acquired some brown suede loafers to fill the place of the OE sneakers. All leather shoes crease. I know that. It was the manner in which these did, particularly one of them, which creased near the end of the toe making it look like a bubble there. Never had any shoe do that before. Cheers.
