The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. I will say I have a pair of black cowboy boots I take real good care of and keep highly shined and they are the most complimented pair of shoes I've ever owned. I really like this ranking, but I would've put the black sneaker on a higher tier, like a C tier or even an B tier. The black sneaker is a really solid option when you are a sneaker type of person who doesn't like the feeling of wearing shoes in general. It is true that it doesn't stand up too much outside a monochromatic look, but if you keep them clean, they can look kind off like a minimalistic black shoes, but much more confortable. Also if its a leather sneaker it gives them shine and the ability to be easy to clean. You can wear black sneakers with almost any outfit.

I am so glad that my boarding school taught me so much in my formative years. I always wear oxford shoes (brogue and wing tips for formal occasion). They taught us how to dress for success, what color and type of shoes for every occasion, length of trousers and cuffs, always single pleated pants or flat front pants. Always two button suits, with either peak or notch lapel,1/4 inch suit sleeve shorter than shirt sleeve, Straight Pointed Collars on shirt. Still maintain same standard for grooming

@@victor5180 Both. There were rules for Tie length -- tip of the tie shall touch the middle of the buckle at Max. Belt Buckle and Zipper should align. Oxford shoes with cap toe, laces tied knot must be in center. These rules were strict but their value was learned when I became Sr. Level Engineer meeting C suite stakeholders, high ranking state, local and federal officials in US and other countries. These grooming standards matter. My beard and Moustache is always properly groomed, I use straight razor every day, eye brows don't have wild hair stick out, my ties are only three types, Solid, Regimental, Medalion. Solid ties for Gov't and C suite meetings, Regimental ties for Military meetings, Medalion for formal parties (Cocktails, Dinner Functions etc). These standards are going down the tubes now. Younger generation just suck in choosing color and attire.

I did not go to boarding school but many of the things you mentioned were things that I picked up through a life where I was expected to wear a suit and/or tie at functions but also just having a good haberdasher. I don’t think anyone taught me that your belt should match your shoes, or where the tie should lay, or some of the other things you mentioned. I applaud your education in these regards and I agree it is important. My point is that it is possible to arrive at similar conclusions without the need for a formal education in such things. Given the right influences, a smart man can come to similar conclusions. I can’t imagine not wearing a paisley tie! 😆 EDIT: I am 46

Cowboy boots work easily anywhere in the southern and western US. They have grown more in popularity everywhere now because of the success of the show Yellowstone. Not only cowboy boots, but wax canvas jackets and jean jackets have been blowing up this last year. I’ve been rocking my Justin’s long before Yellowstone, but since have added two more Tecovas pairs, a roughout for everyday and a Caiman pair for special occasions. Thanks Yellowstone. Courtney, you should do a piece on the influence that Yellowstone has had on fashion/western wear the last two years.

Two years of exceedingly wet weather had me tired of wet feet and hair as I was in and out a lot. Not only is my wife crazy about them, I have had hundreds of women, and probably a couple hundred men, comment on every pair I have. Alligator for suits or going out. Added a pair of "Cartwright" two months ago and have women obviously checking them out all the time.

​​@@matt_valentine you would have to be an athlete during that time frame to fully understand the dynamic of Jordan's. Example 1 the patent leather wasn't for style it was for strength and durability on the Jordan 11 as stated above. Also the designs are actually not random in fact all the J's that Mike played in were designed off something he was into.. example the 14 model was a direct influence from his Ferrari. In alot of ways the history dating all the way back to the 1 is very detailed. There is a channel on YT called Wear testers.. Chris and Jodi ( Husband and wife ) excellent people by the way. Chris gives so much information as to how the shoe was crafted and the back story you can hear the passion behind it. I invite you to check it out. Just know that for alot of older gentlemen Jordan's aren't about a fashion statement it's about individuality and maybe a shoe you couldn't afford back then. In alot of ways I can respect someone wearing a pair of Jordan's over an expensive pair of penny loafers 'bought for style' from some brand that is just like the next brand for status purposes. Always multiple explanations for what could be... just food for thought.

Courtney, I loved this video! I'm a retired professional investor and one of the very first groups I followed was footwear. I've met some of the giants of the industry: Phil Knight (Nike), Paul Fireman (Reebok), Sidney and Jeffrey Swartz (Timberland). It's a fascinating industry, and, as you know, many styles come and go while, as you point out, some styles become timeless: such as the Chuck Taylor (since around 1920!) and the penny loafer which goes back to the G.H Bass Weejun Penny Loafer in 1936! You might not know it, but interestingly, the HeyDude Brand was bought by the Crocs in 2022 (deal announced in 2021). Despite these being two of your lowest rated shoes, Crocs itself has been a huge stock market success. I guess that old expression is true: There's no accounting for taste! Incidentally, I would suggest that your metaphor would make more sense if you said, "killed 0 birds with two stones" vs. "Killed 0 birds with 0 stones." The former alludes to the fact that there were two tries without success while the latter suggests no tries! Shoes which I have at the moment : 1 steel toed boots which I need for work. 2 dress shoes, which I might need for interviews or formal occasions 3 loafers which are handy when I visit indian friends or Hindu temples (the reason loafers are handy is that it's a requirement at temples, and at many Indian homes, to take of your shoes) 4 walking shoes for walking in the woods. I agree with all your rankings. My daily drivers are Stacy Adams wingtip dress boots. Got them in brown/cognac, black, gray/cognac. I get complements every week on them. They are sharp looking with slacks and dress shirt or polo, and a suit. Other than those I've got Stacy Adams Oxfords, leather sneakers, Strike Movement Haze trainers, work boots, Vibram 5 fingers for water sports, and my Grandfather's cowboy boot collection of a wide variety of skins. I'm covered for every occasion.

I have the Thursday Boots suede Chelseas with the chunkier rubber soles and I think it makes them a bit more rugged and works great for a jeans and a jacket outfit that looks casual but more intentional than sneakers. I do live somewhere with very variable seasons too so it helps with puddles and thin layers of snow.

Aw, crap I do have black snickers (New Balance) since my style is mostly dark colors. Still looking at this tier list ranking from Courtney's perspective was quite awesome, because it kind of gives us options of what footwear looks good on us while others you need to take to the nearest dumpster and set those things on fire.

Rock what works for you. Imo If you wear a lot of back, grey or dark blue pants, black is a way better option than white sneakers, which look like crap if they get even a little bit dirty.

I have enjoyed your videos very much. I pretty much agreed with all of your assessments in this video with regards to men’s shoes. Now, I recognize that this video is going to be tailored to men in a much more general sense. I’d like to get a sense of what your opinion is concerning men in shorts. I think you could make a lengthy video if not a series on this. There are the shorts themselves (e.g. denim, cargo, athletic, khaki, etc), belt or no belt, what kind of shirt, tucked or untucked, and, bringing it back to this video, what kind of shoes? I’m in my 40’s and I have a wide range of styles at this stage of life. I have thankfully given up on cargo shorts, but I still enjoy wearing a nice set of flip flops (think leather Reefs or something like Southern Polished), however I recognize the decreasing appeal those can have. Instead, my go-to is a light colored driving loafer (like tan). I’d love to see some nuance in some of these style videos. Again, love your content!

Great list Courtney! I mostly agree with your rankings other than I thought Chukkas were ranked a lot lower than where I would have put them - I think they're a great casual boot that never goes out of style. As for black sneakers, I do have a pair of black Adidas Sambas that have what I feel is a timeless look, although I'll admit they're not very versatile. They do look good if you're going for a monochromatic look, though. If you do a future video, I would love to hear your thoughts on desert boots, venetian loafers, espadrilles, huarache loafers, and birkenstock sandals!

I think Timberlands are geared more like a work boot and hiking boots. Service boots are usually patent leather and modeled after military boots. Similar shape but work and hiking are usually a little more chunky silhouette I think. I think the service boots aren’t insulated padded etc like Timberlands. Probably why the slimmer profile.

I suppose a lot of this is ultimately subjective, so I'm going to share my two cents. In my honest opinion, the only shoe that truly deserves the S tier rating out of the ones placed there is the oxford dress shoe, particularly in black and it could be either cap-toe, plain-toe, or wholecut. It is THE quintessential dress shoe that works in practically any formal occasion, and it is absolutely required in the most formal or serious occasions, such as a wedding, funeral, job interview, or a business meeting. It's the only pair of shoes I would argue that every single man needs in his wardrobe regardless of personal style or background. Regarding the other S tier shoes, I can see an argument being made for the penny loafer because they are truly versatile and work especially well for business casual attire, not to mention the convenience of slipping them on and being on the go. They truly are the most elegant looking loafers out there that I think could work on any man. Tassel loafers are stereotypically considered shoes worn by retirees, and anecdotally, I have only ever seen old men wearing them, and horsebit loafers make certain men look like they're trying way too hard to appear wealthy. Some men can rock them just fine though. The minimalist white sneaker certainly is a fantastic option, and I would dare say the best and most versatile option, for casual wear. However, if versatility really is that important of a factor, then just know that white sneakers do NOT belong with anything other than a pair of jeans or chinos and a casual shirt, like a t-shirt or a casual button-up. White sneakers, or any sneakers for that matter, with a suit and tie is an absolute abomination and should be discouraged at every possible opportunity, and it shows the world that you're utterly clueless. Then again, the same can be said about black oxfords on the inverse end, which would look way off with jeans and a t-shirt when going to a social gathering. Service boots absolutely do NOT belong in S tier 😂. I'm glad Courtney clarified she has a bias for these, which shows. Any time a man wears service boots, it makes him look like he's heading either to a construction site or to a local forest to chop wood (especially if they're in light brown). The only men who look good wearing them are the really rugged types, the ones who drive pickup trucks and do hard labor for a living. Jack Reacher for instance looks good in them because they suit his personality and way of life. Anyone who doesn't fit that mold looks kind of silly in them in my opinion, unless we're talking about ones with more chiseled lasts from certain European shoemakers like Carmina, Crockett & Jones, etc. In all honesty, Chelsea and Chukka boots are far more versatile and better looking than service boots, and they're the two boot styles universally recommended by practically all menswear enthusiasts, so I feel they should've been ranked higher. Plus, what Courtney said about the silhouette of chukka boots looking off highly depends on which ones we're talking about. If we're referring to Clark's desert boots, then I agree that those are indeed hideous, but if we're talking about, say, the Pimlico model from Loake Shoemaker in the capital last, then those are sexy. Final word here, specifically on the hybrid dress shoe: just.... no. Unless you have severe foot problems and need them for orthopedic reasons, no man should EVER wear these. They're just plain abominable, and it's a trend that needs to die sooner rather than later. I would've easily put those in F tier.

I tend to wear brown leather boat shoes in summer and black leather Chelsea boots in winter. The main reason is I work in people's houses where I need to look both smart, but also have a practical shoe and be able to go between inside and outside with an easy slip on/off. That said, penny loafers could work easily as well. Service boots would be annoying because I'd keep having to do up laces.

I'd personally swap the Derby and the Oxford. I feel the Derby is a bit of a "dandy" shoe. This year I took the plunge and purchased a pair of camel suede chelseas, which I previously wasn't a big fan of. I've received more compliments on these than for any other shoe I've ever owned. I typically wear them with a pair of 5-pocket blue, or other colored jeans. Other than the white leather sneaker, you don't seem to like any form of summer or beach vacation shoes to be worn with a pair of shorts during the day. I'd like to know what you'd recommend for that specific situation.

Derbies are the most versatile shoe in my opinion, they've been around for centuries and were designed as a comfortable alternative to the Oxford. Much more versatile than either the white sneaker, the loafer and the Oxford. They can be worn casually, or in a formal outfit. If you only have 1 shoe, the brown derby is going to be the way to go.

I thought the Cole Haan shoes deserved a much higher ranking. Wouldn’t buy the particular pair used in the video but I am a 24 yr old guy live in SoCal. They are my go to shoes for full suit or blazer w jeans or khakis because of the knitted material that is breathable for warmer weather, unique, stylish and very comfortable compared to other dress shoes.

Courtney, I'm a podiatrist and I've never been so engaged by any video. I would give most shoes the same rankings +/- one tier level. Some comments: Penny loafers: the ones in the pic look sharp but this is what boys wear in first grade until they learn to tie shoelaces. B Tassel loafers: too flamboyant. C White sneakers: the shoe of the 2020s. We'll see if it stands the test of time. S is too generous. Oxford/Derby: look the same to me, and I'm a professional. I wear a lot of all black bc I’m a gigging musician so I just integrate that into my casual wardrobe with either t-shirts with blazers or jeans with my button downs and I just make it sleek and uniform with black sneakers. I do like charcoal pants with a black top and occasionally the white v-neck. lol, I also wear the dress sneaker with a suit with a t-shirt instead of button down

I live in good service boots. They make me look manly and pulled together in a suit, in business casual, in jeans and t-shirt - just about any outfit. And, yes, I definitely feel that women look at me more in service boots. But I disagree strongly on the loafers: they are also flexible in that they don’t look right with anything. Maybe I was traumatized as a child by preppies. To each their own.

I think this list is spot-on in the right mindset: if a guy has a smaller shoe collection. If you only own 4 pairs of shoes then dress oxfords, white sneakers, penny loafers, and service boots are about as good as it gets. However, if you have two dozen pairs of shoes, the dress oxfords start to get a little boring. I find myself reaching for monkstraps, wingtips, and brogued dress boots a lot more. I'm a little older than you so I was not in college during the boat shoe craze. I think boat shoes are the perfect replacement for flipflops.

I am with you on most of your opinions, except black sneakers, white sneakers, chukkas and Chelseas. I would flip flop white and black sneakers. And in my experience, chukkas are really versatile. Re oxfords vs derbies, the shape of your foot determines whether you go with one over the other. Wide feet and high insteps should go with Bluchers or Derbies. Narrow or low volume feet can more easily rock the Oxford. Men with wide wide feet have a harder time getting a good fit with oxfords. If you try to force things and squeeze your foot into too narrow oxfords, it looks really bad. Dress sneakers. I am coming around, with the caveat that I never, ever wear them with a suit. If you stick with casual attire, they are fine.

I didn't know one could have such strong opinions on shoes! In my teens and 20s i just wore vans and crap trainers for the day to day and it probably looked pretty awful. Sometimes a woman might point this out to me and i didnt have a clue what she was talking about. They were just shoes surely?? Over the past several years (late 20s, early 30s) ive actually tried to put some real effort into my dress sense and although i find the shopping part quite awkward and painful (i get in my own head and compare myself a lot) its been working out well and i receive lots of compliments, and this channel has helped a bit so thank you! Now just need to work on the shoes. Got some white trainers (sneakers) as per your suggestion a couple years back and although in the past i could never see myself in them, they actually work really well! Still need to improve my shoe game though. I just find it hard to match something to my style that i think doesn't look ridiculous or pretentious. I‘d emphasize the importance of the color (of the leather); oxblood and a really dark brown are the best choices imo, black shoes are only necessary for black suits ( which aren’t the best choice at all) and very conservative settings. The suede Chukka is the perfect casual shoe (David Craig aka James Bond wears them nearly all the time)..

I actually really love chukka boots, and I get so many compliments on mine! They're not all created equal though, so I did buy nice ones, which aren't really at the 'desert boot' end of the chukka scale. A nice smart leather pair in brown goes really well with trousers or jeans. I've also got some suede pairs in brown and black, which also get a lot of great feedback. I'm from the home of great shoes (Northamptonshire, UK), so I'm spoiled for choice.

S tier penny loafer then has to be in suede, for summer, early sprig and fall, as its more casual and more breathable. Black oxfords can always be dressed down to any business ocassions, hence no need of 2nd shoe such as leather penny loafer. You need nice casual penny loafer, thats not so serious, hence dark brown suede penny loafer. White leather dress sneaker mostly for daily erands. Day dates. Suede loafer for dates, evening outings, bars, restaurants. can be used for casual business. oxfords - mostly business stuff, job interviews, funerals, weddings, more serious dinners. boots- rainy days and what not, winter/fall/early spring. Bad boy outfits. One of the sexiest shoes are double monk straps in oxblood/burgundy, in museum calf leather.. Very statement piece. They are still considered as formal, semi-formal. You can definitely go to a serious meeting with it, italian navy suit, dress watch. Imagine situation, i am ceo of a low billion dollar company, and fortune 500 company buying us. You dont have to go with black oxfords, these monk straps would definitely do for the final selling meeting. But thats definitely an addition to more of a 5-6 shoe collection, and not 3-4. edit: espadrilles with no socks are interesting for summer day stuff, instead of sweating in the white leather sneakers.

Just a little note: plain white sneakers look really strange on me, but I’ve got a pair of German army trainers that are white that look the business. They need a bit of grey from the suede and the gum sole. They’re also more form fitted than the standard sneaker so they make my big feet look smaller.

Love your content. If I was young in a city this list would work for me. I'm not, I'm old in a small coastal town. Retired military so no dress shoes or boots (still rebellious after being forced to wear these for way to long)-OK, I have a pair of light weight hiking boots. "Dress sneakers"? Dumbest thing ever, the white sole kills it for me. I get the driving loafer, for driving-I'm a big guy with fairly big feet but my daily driver is a small car and my foot can hit the gas pedal at the same time as the brake pedal with my "dad shoe" cross trainers-not cool. I've never heard of "Hey Dude" shoes before your videos, I have a crappy pair of Temu knock offs that I wear when I do projects, don't care if they get messed up (and they ARE messed up). Converse high tops have been pretty much unchanged since I was a kid, couldn't afford them then, WON'T pay Converse prices now. My favorite shoes lately? Sketchers water proof in black, great for walking the dog in the coastal rain.

You just about always wear cowboy boots with jeans, which is why I think they don't play well as dress clothing in a lot of places. For you to consider though...... cowboy boots, well cared for jeans, plain single color long sleeve button down (pearl snap Western preferred), a blazer, and a cowboy hat is a timeless combination. We call this a Texas Tux and it's one of my favorite outfits.

I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict. Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers. Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of macro Evolutionary biology whereas I accept micro Evolution like speciation and adaptation but not macro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". The only way I can see a penny loafer being S-tier is based on versatility for a guy who has like 2 pairs of shoes. I think most guys have a better pair of shoes for most scenarios. With suits I'm choosing an Oxford. With something more casual I'm choosing a high-end minimal leather sneaker.
