I grew wearing cowboy and work boots (grew on a Texas ranch) and picked up some brown Captains as my first "fashion" boots. They're extremely comfy, look good, and are reasonably tough. I don't know that I would wear these to a real job outside of an office, but they're good and priced quite fairly for what they are.

I got my first pair of Thursday boots today, Captains in tobacco. I normally wear a 10-10.5 in sneakers, so i ordered a 9.5 after reading the reviews and watching some you tubers. The 9.5 boots fit perfect. I wore them to run errands and around the house most of the day today. My favorite boots ever. Fit like a glove. Now i see why they're at the top of so many boot review lists. If you're on the fence and considering a pair, my advice is grab them if you can afford a couple of bennies. Peace.

Fellow Thursday Captain owner here: have had my pair for 5 years now. I've wore mine almost daily for five winters now, I walked through snow, salt, rain, and mud to and from class all through college with these. You've definitely taken better care of yours than I have because mine are in not-so-good shape as yours. I've replaced the inserts twice, the outsoles once, and had multiple shoelace replacements. The leather is holding up well except for just above the toe-cap where it's now cracking (I have moisturized and cleaned them multiple times before) and the leather on the inside of the boots that hugs my heel has fallen apart with the plastic (I think it's plastic) structural part cracked and falling apart. I'm sure with more care these boots would be in better shape, but I have put well over two thousand miles on these things over the course of five years. They're wonderful boots and are really comfortable so long as you take care of them. Definitely worth the $200 investment. I think it's time I upgraded to something a little nicer, but for an introduction boot? You can't beat them.

@lucascoughlin61622 жыл бұрын
@@killerr721 I've had mine for quite a while now, maybe two years of abusing the hell out of them. They'll seal your foot up well from the elements, and if you know how to walk on ice (sorry if that sound condescending 😂 not meant to) then you'll be fine. They've tolerated my boot-ignorance and Minnesota weather well! I'm sure if you take the time to care for the exterior and (particularly) the interior, I could see these lasting someone for years longer. Solid boot.

@@lucascoughlin6162 do you think there ok for long hikes and tough terrain(nothing crazy)?
@lucascoughlin61622 жыл бұрын
@@jimmyjohnjuan For sure. Once they've conformed to your feet all you need to worry about is avoiding wearing them on very hot days (as I ignorantly do.) After the boots and your feet have gotten to know each other they are sturdy companions wighout the consequences of blistering and rigid tops poking at your ankles. I have somewhat wide feet so I assume this is the case for most after having these boots for a while. (Sorry to reply so long after)

Aye... this boot is absolutely incredible👌And you're 100% right when you say that the Captain bridges the gap between rugged and stylish. I wear this boot with everything and it never ceases to look badass!
Time for a new set of toplifts, William! (Quality video as always!) All joking aside, considering the pricepoint of TBC, it's pretty difficult to compare it to most other GYW brands. Sure, you could get some Red Wing or AE seconds, or AEs on sale but even then, they are often above that $200 price point. You could also take it up a notch to some Mark Alberts, Grant Stone, Parkhurst, OSB but with them you're getting into the $250, $300, $450 range. So, again, you can't really compare them there either. The $199 price point, to me, was marketing genius, if TBC is actually able to make money off them (we can all look to Casper Mattresses, Everlane and other DTC companies that have not done well). The average person looking to buy shoes that aren't a mega fashion brand (CP, Balenciaga, Gucci or whatever) probably scoffs at spending $300 plus on shoes just because they last long. Pricing at $199 is low enough to convince a lot of average consumers to delve into the GYW space. And getting into the social media space when they did was huge. There's been a lot of other DTC bootmakers out there but TBC was kinda the first to really jump on it big and that's helped with customer acquisition for sure. Regardless, you actually can't find a full price GYW boot for $200 like anywhere. Yes, you can get seconds, or sales, used, or whatever else. But that takes patience, time, effort and that's worth something to a lot of people. Are you likely to find much much better GYW boots out there? Absolutely. Are they gonna be as easy to find and buy as Thursday? Absolutely not. The $200 you spend on these boots is getting you in the door on a pair of shoes that will absolutely last you longer than a pair of Cole Haan's or something similar. Here's the other thing, for most people, would they rather have 2 pairs of good boots for $400 or 1 pair of really good boots for $400. I'd argue most of us are gonna go the former. You can get multiple looks and if they only last half as long as a more expensive pair, you're basically in the same place anyway.

Hey man, in my experience Converse run a full size smaller than regular skate shoes (which is otherwise what I wear). So, maybe go at least half a size up for Thursdays? Since they say on their site to go down half a size from one's regular size, and converse runs a full size down

I know I’m late to this post but I went down a half size and it too tight. I just got them yesterday March 10, 2022. I have to get a size up to my real size I think. They are very slim and too tight. I were Converse all stats all the time almost exclusively and I should have listen to myself as well. Now I’m wondering if I should go wider even. Not sure what to do. I’m reading everything I can so I can take care of this today and get these returned and get a new pair. Just don’t know if I’m going to get a difficult color now. I have a pair of captains in brown for a few years and more recently a pair in matte black. I love them both. The soles on the matte black are a different material and end up making them a bit heavier. The laces are different between the two and the ones that come with the brown are a bit weak. I've gone through 3 or 4 sets in a few years. All-in-all I am supper happy with them. I just bought a pair of the Casa Moto and they look and wear amazing. As this review and the website says, follow their guidlines on sizing.

I have a pair of Thursday Chelsea Boots, with similar colour Chrome Leather XL with 360 degrees Goodyear-welt. I have them for 2 years + now and I strongly agree with the video saying how they age/crease beautifully. I wear them for work (10-15 hrs/day + lots of walking) + I normally enjoy walking for and back home after work. The rubber sole definitely is rugged and water-proof, and more importantly the sole would last longer than a leather sole if you wear them daily. I bought them for USD 199 + delivery (AUD 40 with DHL to Australia). I bought them with the horsehair brush that I am still using currently. Advantages - price, colour/quality of Chrome XL Leather (?more friendly to vegan / vegetarian), shorter break in time. Disadvantage(s) - there inner sole gets a bit hard after a few years (in my scenario) but can be easily fixed with an additional in-sole, and I am sending mine to the cobbler soon to get the outer rubber sole replaced. Thank you and well done for the review, and really enjoy such brand is growing their collection and variety of products including those for the females.

I've owned YSL Andy white leather sneaker, Common Projects, and Oliver Cabells - even removing price out of the equation, Thursday blew away the YSL, was right on par with the Common Projects, and also blew away the stiff, plasticy feeling of the Oliver Cabells. I will agree that these boots are nice and I have the same pair for about 3 years now. An issue I’ve had with them is that the heel padding EVA foam completely went flat. When that happened my ankle began to rub against the heel counter and bruised it really badly. I emailed them and they couldn’t figure out. Took them to a cobbler and he just put more foam under the heel and it fixed. So be ready for that “Thursday drop.” I recently picked up a pair of grant stones and they’re so much better and I highly suggest you try to save up a little bit more if you KNOW you want a heritage style boot. If you want to experiment and not drop 300+, these are a great first boot. But I highly suggest saving up for grant stone, I think it’s worth it.

@Angelo- In full transparency: When we started we chose an EVA-based insole because it was comfortable right out of the box, and I think we made a decent decision at the time. I still think a medium to high-density EVA insole is preferable to full leather insoles...but this is very subjective, and a personal opinion. With that being said, you're right that it doesn't retain it's rebound effect as well as poron and it breaks down faster than leather and poron. On our men's boots and goodyear welt dress shoes we implemented preformed shock-absorbing antimicrobial 17 shore A poron insoles with an embedded custom-made shank for each last. We tested EVERYTHING and I don't think there is a better insole on the market. It's longer-lasting than leather. It has a better rebound effect than EVA and leather, and it's antimicrobial (leather can get mold and start to smell pretty fast as some of you may know). Our product has iteratively improved and it comes with the territory of supporting a startup with our ideals...and why your support and feedback is so appreciated by us. Over the last few years I've spent incredible amounts of time (and put my feet through the ringer) testing different insoles, hiring great production ops people, and I still read all negative customer feedback every single month. The vast majority of people were VERY satisfied with our product 3-4 years ago and legacy insoles. While only a small handful of people had negative feedback on our legacy insoles, we still fought every single day to test and improve our insoles, and we're going to continue to do so with every aspect of our products because we love it and want to be proud of what we are building. Insoles are ONE of the marks of a quality boot, and I hope people like you continue to go over our boots with a fine tooth comb. We've hired the best production ops people in the game and I've learned a lot over the last few years. I think we make the best damn boots on the market. If you're ever dissatisfied with a product from us- just email us and we'll always do our best to make it right. Apologies if this comes off overly passionate as well : )

Mine looked like this vids after a day just from walking around. Still look great but don't expect that out of the box look to last. The construction is great and I imagine these will take a beating. Grip: Sucks. Better than standard Docs, no where near as grippy as grippy sole Docs or cheap Walmart work boots. Style: These slick for any fashion. Got a pair Black Captains (black leather, not Matte) and they're awesome. Comfortable pretty much out of the box. I'm definitely gonna be ordering more in the future.

I have their Stompers (they don't have wide options for these), they are a bit tight on me and the zipper popped off when I was putting them on after a couple weeks, but Thursday was good with a return (hint: keep the box, just in case!). If I go with another pair in brown, I'll probably go with Captains or something in a wider size.
@mhaas281 Жыл бұрын
Just got mine today. They do seem a little stiff and will require some break in. I have a cheaper pair of nunbush that didn't require any break in and are currently more comfortable. Will see how the Thursday compare after some time.
@nottsforest692 жыл бұрын
I have the matte black captains. The leather is pretty stiff out the box and although the size fits well in the toe, the heel on my left is still not sitting well. So hopefully after a few more weeks of discomfort I can get the left to play nice with the right foot. The jury is still out on my Thursday’s boots.

Good review I’ve got them in natural, but not really feeling them. To glossy for me and come of as a little cheap IMO, but after seeing your long term wear, maybe I just need to really break them in.
@satchrocks343 жыл бұрын
Kinda how natural cxl looks outta the box. Especially if TBC is doing a vigorous shine on the boots before they go out the door. Straight from Horween's (the place they source CXL from) website: "Chromexcel can be shined to a high gloss or left with a more subtle luster" The leather itself is gonna be thinner than that much higher end brands that use Natural CXL (viberg, alden, even Parkhurst, OSB, etc). However, it's gonna look much the same. The coolest part about natural cxl is how it patina's as you wear the boots. These things are gonna darken a hell of a lot as you wear them and the pullup nature of CXL will give the boots an awesome look down the road.

@@satchrocks34 thanks for the info Gives me hope and reason to keep pulling them out Much appreciated
@BootSpy3 жыл бұрын
Yo, I agree with Ian---like I said in the vid, I felt the same exact way---the shine was more than I expected, but after a month or two, it wasn't so shiny that it was distracting. They still get that shine a bit when I treat them, but they're really broken in and subdued now. I think you'll like them. Just take them on a few good long walks

The natural is one of our favorite colorways especially after you wear them in! They are a bit glossy at first but trust the process :) The Natural colorway develops the best character over time. Welcome to the Team! Best, Kendra from Thursday

About to pick a pair up. In my opinion they’re better looking than all of the more expensive options. To my eye most other boots are either too far on the clunky side or too feminine and pretty to to speak. These have a nice middle between being clean, rugged, and practical.

I might be late to your video, but thanks! I purchased the captain, and love it, but question, I'm new to boots in general, the captain being my first pair, is it normal to be challenged when walking up and down stairs, I don't have the same movement that I do in regular shoes and sneakers. I bought captain boots from Thursday boots. Men’s bourbon captain in 6.5, and a Women’s black matte in 9. Both fit my feet, but the men’s boot was substantially more comfortable and almost cloud like compared to the women’s boot. Additionally I’m already getting sole failure (the outsole is starting to peel away at the toe and the heel) in both the women’s boots after less than a year. The men’s boots are still going strong after more than two years of regular wear. I’m a woman, and won’t be purchasing their women’s boots again. Sample size of one each, but I’ll tell anyone who asks to focus on their men’s boots until the quality of their women’s boots actually matches that of their men’s line.

Keep in mind the synthetic materials in the insole and midsole are not as durable as say redwing iron rangers. You can likely get a couple re-soles out of these but with rotation and proper care the $350 iron rangers can be buy it for life. Still a great value boot for $200 though.

I strongly recommend European buyers to buy a half size smaller than your true size is. Do not trust the thursday size guide for converting EU to US sizes though! I normally wear EU45, which the guidebook recommends as 12 US. I ordered myself half a size smaller, so 11.5 US. This was way too big for me with almost 1 centimeter of air at the heel! The return shipping costs ~40€, but the replacement delivery is free. So consider exactly what size might fit to avoid the extra cost. Ultimately, I chose 10.5 US, which is 1.5 sizes smaller than recommended and the boots fit like a glove. A correct size chart would be as follows: EU 39 US 6,5 UK 6 24,6 cm EU 39,5 US 7 UK 6,5 25,0 cm EU 40 US 7,5 UK 7 25,4 cm EU 40 US 8 UK 7.5 25.8 cm EU 41 US 8.5 UK 8 26.2 cm EU 41.5 US 9 UK 8.5 26.7 cm EU 42 US 9,5 UK 9 27,1 cm EU 43 US 10 UK 9,5 27,5 cm EU 44 US 10.5 UK 10 27.9 cm EU 45 US 11 UK 10,5 28,4 cm EU 45.5 US 11,5 UK 11 28,8 cm EU 46 US 12 UK 11,5 29,2 cm EU 46.5 US 12.5 UK 12 29.6 cm EU 47 US 13 UK 12.5 30.1 cm EU 48 US 13.5 UK 13 30.5 cm EU 48.5 US 14 UK 13.5 30.9 cm EU 49 US 14.5 UK 14 31.3 cm EU 49.5 US 15 UK 14.5 31.8 cm EU 50 US 15.5 UK 15 32.2 cm Select up to half a size smaller here, since the boots still tend to turn out larger. You keep saying you’re going to get this resoled, you should. It would make an awesome video to see a 4 year old beat up captain brought back to life. It would lend more validity to the brand. Idk what you’re waiting for dude, that video would blow up.

Funny you mention this -- I actually got them resoled a few months ago and shot a bunch of footage to make a video. I'm just waiting on the second camera footage to put it together, but it should be coming very soon! If you want to see what these Captains look like resoled, you can check the BootSpy Instagram account. I put on a Dainite sole and a natural leather welt plus natural leather heel stack. And the BootSpy orange stitch on the sole.. they look great! Thanks for watching!
