The slight size difference may be due to the different Last. I believe they've had 3 lasts, or possibly 4. The current is the kingmaker.

These new boots are uppers which would be called ROUGH OUT. During WW II the standard issue army boot was like this. They flip the leather around so the top surface is INSIDE. The outside facing surface is the part of the leather which was inside the animal when it still had the hide on. This will LOOK like suede, but it's not cut down as severely as suede is. The older boot here is a sanded oil tanned or oil treated leather. The surface is too smooth for Full Grain, and it obviously has "pull up" consistent with oils and waxes impregnated into the leather. An oil leather like that will be rugged and less needy of maintenance. One more trivia bit - during WW II he rough out boots were expected to be treated with a goop called DUBBING. This was a oil and wax petroleum compound which soaked into the rough out leather and made them quite water resistant. There are online sites which go over this gear from the war. You can still buy reproduction boots just like this from specialty providers who cater to re-enactors.

Thanks for the knowledge. Knowledge is good. Another fun fact to add to yours; I took these to the ocean and got the bottoms wet at the beach and I can safely say these here are definitely NOT waterproof! Lol

Did they discontinue Burnt Ginger or change the name and formulation to Burnt Copper? These look the Captain Classics because of the lace style, but their site doesn't offer a Burnt Ginger.

@@vhockada Oh, I definitely believe you, brother. I wasn't suggesting you were wrong about the name or anything. Hope I didn't come off that way. I just wasn't sure if you happened to know more about what happened with the color. Maybe with the introduction of Arizona Adobe, they made some changes. It seems like Burnt Ginger was almost in the middle of Arizona and Burnt Copper.

Interesting. They look almost the same (if the Arizona's weren't scratched up, that is). Rather than the color difference, it seems the difference in texture is more pronounced.

I just bought the Burnt ginger. I need to order a size up. My size. The size down is too small. I’m not happy about that. Also my boot do not have the waxed black shoelaces. They are dark brown and do not look the same at all. Also they do not have the dark burnished look at the tip and heel as your do and as they show them to be in the website where I bought them from. I’m very disappointed in them. The color looks more brown to me as well in real life compared to how amazing they look on the website as well. I have emailed them yesterday when I got them to address my issues that I have with them. Idk what to do yet. So I just reorder them in the half size up and just accept that they do not look like your do on the tow and heel and also the way they show them in the website or do I just return them and say goodbye? What would you do? Anyone have any ideas or thoughts? I would soothe input. Thanks.

If you’re buying from Thursdays website then you’re okay. If you’re buying from anywhere else you’re not ok.

@@vhockada yea I ordered and received them from the website. However they are not anything like the way the represent them to be at all. They do not have the waxed, shining, and darkened toe tip and heel. Your boots have that right? I can see it. Also I can see that they have the waxed black shoelaces. Or am I wrong. Also they look to be ginger/ orange toned with darker reddish brown tones. Is that correct? If so then you receive the boots the way they are supposed to look and I did not. I don’t know what to do because of that pair wasn’t right then what makes me think the next pair will be at all? Also they run really small to me. I don’t even know if going up 1/2 size to my shoe size will be big enough. Everyone, and I mean everyone says buy then 1/2 size smaller than your usual size and it will be perfect because they run large. Not in my experience. So am I the anomaly? Lol. I don’t know if I should order the Brown Thursday Chrome leather Captains or if I should buy the Captains in the Brandy color that are made out of full grain leather? Do you know if their qualities are different and if they are, what are the differences? Also I assume they are different but how of course and I heard that the Brown Chrome leather are the best ones out if the box and soften the quickest. So I was thinking of ordering them. Then someone else did a review and said the opposite. That they are still super stiff. So idk what to think or do. I can’t get any answer out of the company either way. They don’t seem to want to answer my questions about the different leather and their qualities and how they differ from each other so that I can make an informed decision. That’s when I turned to KZbin in the middle of the night. Lol. Oh man. I even tried to look online to see if anyone explained the differences of all the different leathers. Including the suede that I ordered originally and just got yesterday. I hope they get back to me today so I can figure out what to do. I’m seriously considering just canceling my order am getting a return at this point. Many people like this company and others say they are not worth the money. I do wonder if they are comfy at all or if they feel like your standing on the hardest surface in the world? I tried them in and they felt as though I was standing on concrete. I just don’t know. I just feel disappointed in the boots from the way the look and are suppose to look from the way they feel on my feet. Not happy.
@SoulWatcher722 жыл бұрын
@VanceEdwards can I ask you was your Captain Burnt Ginger darker and or look silver on the toe tip and the heel like it does on the video? Also are those shoelaces actually black and waxed well? I just need to know because that’s what they were suppose to look like and mine were not at all. I just need to know what other people got when they ordered this boot. Thanks.

Maybe your laces were the round Kevlar blend laces because you ordered from the Rugged and Resilient collection. The classic collection all have flat waxed laces and the rugged and resilient all have the round Kevlar blend laces. I also believe the Burnt Ginger color may have since been discontinued or reformulated and renamed to Burnt Copper, as Ginger is no longer available on their site in the Captain.

Can I have some advice? I'm looking at burnt ginger but they don't have my size in stock and I'm worried about how I need to maintain them as they're suede boots. This will be literally my first pair of nice boots and I'm wondering if it's worth waiting for the burnt ginger to come back into stock or buy the easier to maintain Arizona Adobe right now?
@vhockada2 жыл бұрын
I’m no boot aficionado but the suede doesn’t really need maintenance. The Arizona adobes however I use leather conditioner on because they scuff. The suede doesn’t really scuff
