I might of missed it in your review but the fact that Nicks does custom SIZING is so huge. 6.5FF feet? Cool! 13B? Also cool! You can even pick your last. Having this level of custom design and sizing is pretty rare in this industry and is the reason they have to charge more. If Nicks went out of business, those customers would have to go bespoke, which starts at 2k dollars, if you can even find a guy that does that.

Few seem to comment on the faux counter cover. The upper is skived down and barely overlaps the counter cover. Also, the reported holes in the bottom of the gusset are no bueno. Good on them for using a leather toe puff, but the wierd sloped last, fake counter cover, fake gusset, etc. are huge red flags.

Have the Challengers in Black Teacore. Also have Thursday Vanguard. The Challenger is a completely different species. It is fairly comfortable out of the box. No slippage issue with proper socks like Smartwool or Darn Tough. No problem with logger heel on short hikes so far. Not great for driving though. I do not have personal experience with Nick's but I can attest these are a quality product on an entirely different level from the Vanguard, which was the premium Thursday offering.

I like all of the boots I have purchased from Thursday. Good boots and shoes for the money. For me, they have held up well. I did buy a Challenger in CF Stead leather. It's a beefy boot and I love the leather. The only problem is heel. I think the heel stack is a little too tall. It pushes me into the toe at an angle. Hopefully when they broken in better, this will go away. Never had this issue with my other boots. And, I am still waiting on my Nick's Americana boots to arrive. Thanks for the review. 20 weeks and counting on the Nicks.

Thursday’s was so smart and strategic in how they designed and priced this boot. With the Drew’s and Frank’s options at a similar price and even JK having similar prices cowboy boot offerings made in Mexico, this is the embodiment of getting 90%+ of the really high end stuff for 50% of the price. Being in the conversation with those nicer but far more expensive boots at basically Iron Ranger prices makes this impossible to ignore. The longer term 2-5 year reviews of these compared to the others I mentioned here that will be out one day are going to be the key I think. They either can do this profitably enough and at a quality that is undeniable, or they can’t. They’ll always have the Captain and President to make their bread with regardless.
@kularski21 күн бұрын
A few of your points are misleading. First, the "high heel feeling" you describe is because these are based on the 55 last. If you have flat feet, or are just a city dweller that doesn't care for that arch shape (even though it is better for your feet and posture), then you should be wearing a boot built on the HNW last. Second, the "lack of exciting leathers" with Nicks varies based on the base style, given the limitations you hinted at, I suspect you were building based on a "quick ship" build. If you go with a standard build or one of their full MTO options, you'll have a range of Seidel, Horween and Wicket & Craig leather options. On occasion, limited runs of other tanneries are also available. With Nicks, its usually best to review their buying guide to understand the full range of options.

@B-rian30 My experience with Nicks is the opposite. I own two pairs ( 55 and HNW) and while the stitching is ok, actual construction is woeful. The toebox on each pair of boots is shaped totally different between left and right boots. It almost looks like they were made on different lasts. For one pair to be like this might be kinda acceptable but for it to happen on both pairs highlights something seriously wrong with quality control. I have two pairs of Whites also (both 55 last) and the quality of stitching is comparable with Nicks apart from it being a slightly thicker thread around the welt on the Whites. Each pair of boots are as identical as you can get in a handmade boot. Maybe I lucked out. Maybe you lucked out. Who knows but it's Whites for me from here on

I'm sorry, I love the concept of Thursday... However, these boots suck. I have the Black Label Challenger (stone rambler), Drew's and Nick's. I would pick the Drew's any day of the week if price is concerned. The last Thursday used is not designed for the height of the heel, and it's shaped like a slide. My foot kept sliding, and putting all of my weight on the ball of my foot; my heel was not taking the majority of my weight. The only way THE SLIDING WOULD NOT HAPPEN, was to really tighten the laces, but then hurt my feet. So the custom sizing by Nick's is AMAZING! But again, if price is concerned, Drew's. However, if sticking to the video: Nick's plain and simple.

One thing I think that needs more light on is the way Thursday boots markets things. Thursdays' biggest selling point to me was the ability to resole the boot due to the goodyear welt construction. Admittedly I didn't get one so I don't have experience but I've kept a close eye on how people's experiences are with them. I've been reading more and more people talk about how the boots can technically be resoled but only once or twice or very rarely three times is the limit. That many times to resole a boot is great don't get me wrong but to my limited knowledge it only goes to the short end of where boots made of this caliber could potentially last. With that said, I remain skeptical of the marketing of these being "upgraded" from a goodyear to a stitchdown construction among many things with, again, seemingly enhanced versions of x,y,z brand doing x,y,z things. The price of these kinds of boots is great but how you sell it to get there matters too in. And because that's been a thing that I read constantly about Thursdays I hesitate to buy it even at that price. Maybe I'm wrong or misinformed here so if anyone can shed light or share their experiences that would be really helpful to me and anyone else who reads it.
@AdamJones381Ай бұрын
To be honest mate, I'm not sure what question is. How many times a boot can be resolved depends on many factors. If you use the boots for workwear, then maybe once at most. If you wear boots casually and you own more than one pair which is the probably the case for viewers of this channel. Then, you could get two or more resoles. On a gyw, the welt can be replaced. My understanding is that stitchdown is more durable than gyw. As Nick says in the video there is a market for PNW boots then probably isn't you or I.
@UnknownUser-rb9pdАй бұрын
Goodyear welted boots can generally be resoled more times than stitchdown. Stitchdown stitches through the uppers everytime they are re-soled whereas GYW boots have a replaceable welt. Good cobblers will try and use the same stitch holes with both methods but having the welt, or upper in the case of stitchdown, in a vulnerabe location means that sometimes the welt will only last one or two re-soles before being replaced by a cobbler. With stitchdown you cannot just change the welt and if the stitched edges of the upper get damaged it is not going to be easy to repair. Having said all that, you need to have the rest of the uppers and the footbed also last through multiple re-soles and it very much depends on the individual and how they use the boots. For example, Red Wing boots have nice thick leather footbeds which appeals to boot people and should be better than synthetic footbeds but despite the traditional material used I've seen several cobblers say that they're prone to rotting away with sweat. That means the repair becomes much more complicated and expensive (assuming the cobbler is willing to do it) and may not be worthwhile if it costs 75% of a new boot to do. On the other side, the very thick outsoles used in PNW style boots will make them last a lot longer before needing re-soled. Generally the cheaper the boot the less likely people are to re-sole them though if the rest of the boot is still in good condition a straight forward re-sole will be more economical than buying new boots. Spend 50% of the new cost on a re-sole and get double the life out of the boots. I think the reality is that most people don't get more than three or so re-soles out of any pair of boots before there's so much wear and damage on the uppers that they decide it's not worth the cost of the re-build and decide a new pair is a better bet. Personally I don't think it's worth worrying about and even a cheap pair of standard Thursday boots are likely to last you a long time and longer still if they're in good enough condition to re-sole once or twice.
